  • The Hidden Lake Lookout Trail is a popular hike in the North Cascades. We were hoping to spend the night up in the lookout, but our first attempt we were turned around by the threat of storms. On our second attempt, with storms again forecasted in the afternoon, we decided on doing this as a day hike and it turned out to be one of our all-time favorite day hikes.

      Thanks for the compliments, and we're happy you enjoyed the video!! Hopefully you have good weather, a successful hike and experience the joy that we did in such a beautiful landscape. Next time we really hope to stay in the lookout, but we unfortunately didn't have the time.

    I did the hike in 2005 and it was fantastic. Certainly, a workout as it was a pretty big elevation gain.

      Such an incredible hike! Did you get to stay overnight in the lookout? We had hoped to stay up there but we didn't have two days to spend on this hike. Must be a fun place to wake up and see the sunrise!

    Wow! What a memorable hike! We can see why it's a favorite! You so beautifully captured the nature around you. Enjoyed all of the cinematic shots, as well as, the commentary throughout. Thank you for sharing your experience on trail with us. Makes us want to explore North Cascades even more. Happy to have found your great channel! 👍

      Thanks, we really appreciate the positive feedback! Yeah, the North Cascades is a wonderful place...often overlooked but worth the effort to get there. We really like the more "natural" feel, no crowded parking lots, difficult to get to trailheads, it didn't feel like a national park. We were hoping to do some overnight backpacking but permits were hard to come by, but it really is a place to further explore.

    Great video; glad the algorithm brought me here. Spectacular views, great filming and editing and positive vibes. I plan on being in the Cascades this summer, so this is a nice primer.

      Thanks Wishing we had more time when we visited the Cascades, it's a beautiful area. We hoped to camp up on Sahale Glacier but failed multiple times to get permits so plan B was to do dayhikes including Hidden Lake Lookout. Even without camping it was a great experience and a place we'd love to explore more. Have fun!!

      @@lylesuch4421 I intend to spend the majority of summer 2024 in the Olympics & N. Cascades, it’s one of the only areas of the Lower 48 I have yet to explore. I won’t have any real time constraints, so should be able to snag choice permits with a little patience and perseverance. I’m super excited! Take care out there and I hope you get to some more great locations!

    Do you think a Corolla could make it to the trailhead? Not sure if they have filled in any of the potholes

    • @lylesuch4421
      @lylesuch4421  Год назад

      It's always fun seeing cars at trailheads that they say won't make it, so often we've seen a prius or similar small car surrounded by big trucks showing if you know how to drive and be cautious you don't always need an off-roader. But in this case I think the recommendations are right. At least when we were there, I wouldn't suggest taking anything that doesn't have good ground clearance. The road is just too steep and full of ruts/potholes that a normal car would definitely not make it.

    Is this a dog friendly hike for a well built German Shepherd?

    • @lylesuch4421
      @lylesuch4421  Год назад +1

      Yeah, it's a great trail for dogs...we saw a couple on our way down that looked like they were having the time of their lives. Lots of streams to cool off and the trails are well maintained. The only tricky part is near the top, if you go the wrong way it's a bit of a rocky scramble, hard for a dog, but if you make sure to follow the trail it's fine. Just at the very top it's all big boulders to get to the hut.

      @@lylesuch4421 Thank you for the response! I can't wait to take this hike. I plan on backpacking for the night. Just difficult to find conditions up there for the time of the year. Guessing I need to wait until after winter at this point.
