John's bass (The Status Buzzard I) was made to solve an issue that plagued his other basses, in that temperature changes would cause the neck to bend while he toured. So he commissioned this one to be made. It also had access to the higher frets that his fenderbird and other guitars didn't allow him to. I like his newer tone a bit more, though it's easy to see why the practical usage of his newer bass (and subsequently, newer tone).

    Français:
Quels solos de guitare de basse dans My Generation des Who! Incroyable!

I remember a story i think that said that he'd written and originally played the solo to that song on the Dano, having been inspired by it's rare roundwound strings. When they went to record My Generation he broke a string on the Dano and the local shop didn't have any replacement strings or basses so he bought a fender that had flats on it and played the recording on that instead. If you listen to these solos and compare them to the original recording you can definitely tell.

    English:
John Entwistle was the very first bass guitar hero. He contributed very much to the legendary career of The Who. If there is today bass guitar heroes like Rudy Sarzo, Billy Sheehan and Stuart Hamm or legendary bass players like Geezer Butler of Black Sabbath, Cliff Burton of Metallica (who died in 1986), and Steve Harris from Iron Maiden, that's because of John Entwistle. The first virtuoso on bass. He is dearly missed by all fans of The Who worldwide. R.I.P. John Entwistle.

That Vox at about 1:22 sounds the best out of the lot and it's live, the one at 2:20 sounds pretty good too.

It’s not exactly live. They recorded it earlier, then mimicked it on the show. The only live part was Roger’s vocal.

Flea is almost certainly massively influenced by entwistle. Their styles and tone are just too similar.
