I totally agree that you learn so much about yourself by learning about others!! I studied in the UK with the mindset that it wouldn't be super different and I had the same reaction haha

Our exchange student from Italy just left to go back to Italy on Wed. Omg we miss her so much. Her and her family are by far the best people I have ever met! Now in August we'll be having a young lady from Spain staying with us. :) I love hosting its so much fun

Hey, it´s so cool how so many exchange students have similar experiences. I did my exchange in Texas in 2014/15 and find your video so interesting! I also made a video on the things I learned as an exchange student and a video on tips on how to survive the first month. It´s cool that we have this platform to help each other out.

@@Blaze-gl5iu Ahhh that's so cool! I would say any exchange year has ups and downs but overall I really enjoyed it. You should definitely check out these restaurants: Chili's, Chick Fil A and try the orange chicken at Panda's

Over 10 years, we had many new daughters--some we are still in contact with--our German daughter has even come to see us in NZ again--4 times,,and came to our daughter's wedding when she was living in London.
One comment we made to the girls..and they were mostly Japanese or Chinese,,,,,
"You will be with us for one year, but you will go back home 2 years older--you will grow up so much."
I wish I can go on exchange but I am from the US 🇺🇸 and High school credits and A-G requirements are very stressful especially if you want to graduate on time I mean if I fail one Class it’s a little stressful especially for a straight A student
But an exchange students has it way easier ☺️ But for reals you probably don’t even need to talk if you just tell one person your an exchange and lots of people are going to come up to you to talk
But if you have an option to chose the region or state chose A state that is known for its diversity that way you don’t only experience the American lifestyle like Los Angeles very diverse
There’s always an option to study abroad in College! Lot’s of scholarships for US students! For sure America is a diverse country, we did not have the option to choose, unless we paid for a private school, which was a bit too expensive for myself. Hope you figure out a way to see the world 😊

Hello, I’m from the Philippines planning on going to school in the U.S my concern is, is it stressful, is it hard to adjust to the lessons, is it hard to adjust to the subjects / are the subjects hard, do you need to take a lot of notes / have a lot of notebooks, is there a lot of work, homework, activities and lastly is it hard to adjust to schedule???

It is difficult to assess what school is like in the USA compared to Philippines as I never studied there. In Europe the level is quite high, so personally I found it easier to study in the USA. But each person has different experiences based on what their home country is. Teachers are easy to approach so if you are there it would be best to speak with them on what is needed & how you can make sure you get good grades.
Oklahoma?! That's...too bad...hehehe...never been there, myself, but I hear it's flat and dry, and dustier than Kansas...Do you get to SELECT where in the US you get exchanged to?
I actually really liked living in OK, as exchange students you normally do not get to pick. The organization matches you based on host families & they get to "pick" which student they want to host. There are some programs (more expensive) where you can pick the state, and even the school (private) you go to
If I understood that right, you stayed with a single host mom. Would you have preferred to have host siblings? Because I‘m going on exchange too this year and I‘ll be staying with a single host mom and I‘m scared that I‘m missing out on a lot.
Yes correct! I loved staying at a single family. I was allowed to have friends over all the time, was hanging out with friends at their house, and did a lot with my host mom as well. I never felt like I missed something. Their whole family took me in and the cousins were awesome too. In the US there is a lot more community in your household even when they don’t live with you. There were always people coming over.
I have done a second exchange where there were kids as well, I liked this as well, but preferred being in my single mom household. Because with the family, the kids had their hobbies, routine, life & I felt like I needed to fit in with them and their life rather than developing my own personality & character
Did you graduate there or did you have to go back to your home country and complete your studying?
I had already finished high school & as a gap year I went to do my senior year again

hey you mentioned how you studied abroad as a senior, were you able to graduate? bc i really wanted to go on an exchange for yr 12 but i read something about not being able to graduate? does that just mean i can’t graduate on the exchange or at my own highschool either? i’m sorry ik this video is old but could you help me lmao 😭
Hi! Depends on your home country rules. In Belgium you can go for your senior year & graduate in belgium afterwards, you will most likely need to do some additional exams to graduate. I went AFTER graduation in Belgium & re-did my senior year, and so I graduated 2x (but the US one is not 100% an official graduation document, more a certificate of completion)
@@travelaimes ohh, i live in canada. so i am not quite sure what the rules are. ive also tried talking to my school guidance counsellor and they were no help 😭

You can also look up AFS, I´m taking on exchange year in the US through their organization starting in August, they are really nice and help you through everything. :)
@@wolfxlover I have been accepted so they are looking for a host family for me right now :). i don't know how it is for taking an exchange year in Switzerland but I'd assume that they would let you know as soon they can if you are accepted or not :), i had a volunteer help me a lot who organized and sent my documents and application to the USA (the land that i am going to) and then when AFS in USA reviewed my application and accepted it they let her know and then she let me know. although it took 2 months :D, BEST of luck to you!!

You will learn a lot very fast, the first 2-3weeks were a bit different & difficult but afterwards it was amazing & learned so much

No unfortunately it is quite an expensive country / visa to get as a foreign student

You can, it depends on your country though. In Germany for example there is the PPP/CBYX program
U did the exchange year during what grade?
I went after finishing my 12th grade, and “redid” my 12th grade

@@surialmeida1656 i would say between 16-18 is the best, and say about a year to prepare before you leave, to get visa’s/ placing..
