  • From a noble Knight in the Crownlands, fighting under the Targaryen Banner to keep the Lannister Host from Storming the walls of the Red Keep, to a Fierce leader of the Nights Watch, fighting of countless Wildlings and Giants riding mammoths, to Standing in the Courtyard of Castle Black, a noose around his neck for being a traitor, Ser Alliser of House Throne proved to be an interesting and deep character, up until the very moment Lord Commander Jon Snow used Lonclaw, a Valyrain Steel Sword forged Hundreds of years ago in an Empire Thousands
of Miles away, to end his Story.

Thorne didn't leave Jon to command the wall. He left Janos Slynt, then Grenn said that Janos was needed down below because Slynt was a coward. And then Jon took command

Ser Alliser was designed to be an easy character to dislike, from his nasty attitude to nice Jon Snow to his perpetually slapped-arse scowl on his face, but there was absolutely no questioning his ability as a hard man. He was a brave, skilled and capable knight and swordsman, entered any battle completely without showing fear or apprehension, he would have stood tall and taken on pretty much anyone at a moment's notice. Even with the noose round his neck, he remained his same stoic self, said what he meant and was completely unrepentant and unapologetic. Absolutely no second thoughts or crying for mercy. Just "fucking do it already" at Jon. I didn't like him very much, but I DID have a lot of respect for him.
Even killing Jon, it's easy to understand he truly thought he was doing the right thing not just for his biased self, but for the Night's Watch. He took his duty incredibly seriously and gave no compromise. I respect that, even though I didn't like Jon being dead.

While being a lot less likable than Ned, he has some of the same "character flaws" or at least "attributes that get ya killed".
I always liked him, though. He's an ass but he does what he thinks is right and what he believes he's honor-bound to do.

What's tragic and ironic is Alliser Thorne was a Targaryen Loyalist. If only he knew that Jon Snow was actually Aegon VI Targaryen. He would have supported Jon instead of killing him

    Its very ironic.
Alliser disliked Jon for being a Stark bastard.
But secretly he was of the Targaryen Bloodline

+Stark 7R Yeah haha, I wander if he would have treated Jon differently if he knew he was a Targ. Maybe he is just sour with everyone regardless. Welcome to the Channel, time to start forging your Maesters Chain!

I guess he hated him for the same reason Pipp and Gren hated him at first: he was smug and though he was better than the others. And while Tyrion was able to give him a realit check and explain him why he might be a better sword fighter, but only because he was given the training, and, albeit being a bastard, he had a far better live.
Allister might also be pissed that this bastard thought to be someone better, while he was actually an ointed knight but had to live out his days with the Nightwatch, which had no longer the respect within the realm, especially not in the region where he came from.
But Allister Thorne was a capable fighter, had courage and respected his vow.
Nevertheless he, and not Jon Snow, was a traitor for the NW and even the king of the North had forged alliances before. The last one to beat back the Night's king himself who was a former Lord Commander, more so a brother of the King of the North and thus most likely a Stark. According to some sources his name was Brandon, what is why I call him Brandon Stark the Elder.
But it seems that the books took a different part and the Night's King is the first White Walker, the one we saw when Bran witness how the White Walker came into this world by the hands of the desperated Children.

Imagine if Jon and Alliser got on? Alliser was a great man but he let his emotions get the better of him. Jon is special because he can see the whole picture.

I imagine Alliser Thorne going to an afterlife where he gets to see all of the events of Game of Thrones (Or A Song of Ice and Fire) from the beginning and sees the truth about Rhaeger and Lyanna, and Robert's Rebellion, and knowing that the man he despised so much was the heir to the Targaryens he fought for, and the iron throne. And then he sees the events keep unfolding and Jon Snow joining the Night's Watch and Ser Alliser making the same mistakes, killing Jon Snow, and giving his last words "I pray I'd make the right choice again", and regretting those words. Now, the events keep unfolding, and his only relief is that he gets to see how Jon Snow saves the world. And then he rests.

He was proven correct. Allister Thorne did what he did because he knew Jon would cause the downfall of Castle Black. His dicking around north of the wall = Ice Dragon = no more wall… I’m assuming Castle Black had no chance after watching Hardhome. The White Walkers only grew in strength, consolidated, unrestricted, and uhhh ICE DRAGON. Nights Watch SHOULD have been extinct, but then we have the abomination of S8

He never gives two damn about Aemon or Mormont, his not loyal to anything but himself, at the same time these two never trusted him with anything important. I think Jon did the right thing to cut him and his biggest supporter at the time Janos Slynt apart, but became too careless after giving him the position of first ranger, second place to lord commander, let alone let him to manipulate Olly, a boy surrounded by powerful men with vastly different and well hidden intentions and the only thing he’s sure about is his hatred.

I don't think he really hated him because he is Stark. His uncle is Stark, but never ever badmouthed Jon Snow uncle. I guess he admired him, or at least realized that Jon Snow,
is his competition. Very capable, naturally all people look at Jon when some difficult situation occurs. By stating that he sir Alliser himself was beyond the wall for a long time, he wanted to point out that he will never be capable as he is. So, shortly he thought Jon will engender his position. Other thing, all guys blindly obeyed every command. Jon is one who revolted. So, i guess that going back in history it is lame reason to point that out. Why? Because then many people should hate each other. As we all know, conversation between Ned Stark, and Sir Barristan when Ned stated, "I had luck, not meeting you on a battlefield, or my wife would be widow". But they remain friendly. Also, Tyrion Lannister, and Davos Seaworth. Tyrion is guilty of killing his son, so to say. Other thing is, in movie series they never point out that they were enemy long ago. So, again in short, i do not think you are right, and that there are some deeper reason. He was just jealous or realized that in the future Jon could endanger his position. Which we all know was exactly what Jon became.

    • @asasas9146
      @asasas9146 5 лет назад

You should look the rewind of Alliser Thorne. There are many conversations that prove that all that he did was for his men and the watch. Jon wanted to break the discipline, he think that the Night Watch was some kind of adventure and Thorne didnt like it.
