    Your crew does a good job at general maintenance! It's a pleasure to have a crew that mostly works together as a team. I say mostly, cause, after all, it's a bunch of guys! Trouble is never far away! LOL

    my father was a Stevadore for the British Phosphate Commission in the 70 & 80s. As little kids, he'd take us on board the ships, very cool, and why I enjoy your videos so much. Straight out of school, I did a stint as a Seagull, a Warfy, working those hoppers unloading that Super Phos. Later, I was a Fitters-Mate doing maintenance on the Grabs. The ones in your video seem very well maintained, I didn't see too much leaking but still always enough for someone to push a broom around and get it back in the hold.

      @@skyh: I agree. Especially since we now know that the virus is man made, with a 99. 99% rate of survival should you catch it. My wife got the jab and two boosters. ( Her job as a caregiver made it a mandate due to the fact that their elderly population was at risk) I’ve finally convinced her to not get the newest jab.
      I never got one, as I saw this for something not good for our bodies.

    True in most all companies: If you run out of work, you'll get laid off. But, yes, some places are more intense than others, but that rule remains.

    It's really hard to believe that bulk cargo is still unloaded one bucket at a time. And then you have to clean every particle out of the holds for the next shipment. Wow.

    For a moment I thought you had gone back in time and now had a square rigger, many congratulations on keeping your crew happy and your engines so clean. Tell me are scavenge manifold fires still a risk or has better lubricants and servicing sorted that. Have you ever wanted to be part of the crew on a tall ship

    In the US Navy my ship pulled into Rio in about 1990...good times...what I most remember is the food though...the weather was bad so the beaches were empty.

    Some years back a guy got trapped in the scavenging manifold just before his ship got under way. He died from a heart attack. Man, what a sad way to go.

    Chief, Love your blog. I can't wait for your postings. When you say 'SIM', do you mean an actually SIM card purchased at port or just a virtual SIM using an app such as Airalo for when you have internet access? These kind of 'virtual SIMS' are incredibly convenient.

      Yes, actual sim cards. Airalo is limited only to specific phone models.

      @@joaonagae Thank you. A Google search says you are right! The U.S. Coast Guard has a sailing ship that is used for training, and I saw it occasionally in New London, Connecticut.

    Chief, are you able to use star link Internet services on the ship?

      Our ship hasn't installed Starlink yet. It's a different more expensive equipment and subscription for Starlink Maritime. I think our company's contract with the present internet provider has not expired yet.

    I’m assuming one of the reasons for getting the Masters of Science is to get promoted or moved latterly to another position. What job is above or lateral to Chief Engineer?

      Onboard the ship, CE is the highest I could get. This is more for landbased positions like superintendents. I'm looking at a different path. More on the education and training aspect.

      A lot of our students are studying with us to progress their careers within the Maritime industry, some want to achieve the highest rank they can and others want to move into managerial positions and come ashore.
