I actually think the Hobonichi is more minimal than the W222, all that shading makes it look so dark and the overall page look dull, and the split weekends have always been a dealbreaker for me personally. I also just don’t like the W222 font, don’t know why it just bugs me. It does look like it could be a great planner for an office job or something that’s mon-Fri that way you could use the weekends for additional notes. Thank you for the comparison video!!!
Thanks for comparing the two planners! I just bought the Wonderland222 because I prefer wider weekday columns. As my handwriting tends to be larger and I like to write longer sentences in my planner, this works better. Also, I prefer my planner to be in English if possible.
I basically want the hobo cousin in order of: the month, the week, the dailies, the week, the dailies, etc for all the weeks., and then another month and another, and another. So, the Cousin, but in the different order!
I think a lot of people would prefer that, but it leads to extra pages since there are an odd number of days per week. It also makes it awkward to have the month splitting up the week. Different planner companies have different solutions for this. Plum Paper actually puts a double week on the weeks that have part of the end and beginning of a new month. Both cause extra waste, and Hobonichi’s goal of having it all in one book is part of the reason (I imagine) for having it divided the way it is. It took a little bit to get used to, but with the help of some magnetic clips, I can easily flip from month to week to day without any hassle. I have one clip on the month and left side of my week. Then one clip holding the right side of my week and day. Hope that helps. ☺️
I think it will be a wonderland222 for me in 2022. I don’t like the red in the hobonichi or the Japanese. I also like the month followed by the weeks for each month before the next month starts if you understand.
Nice video. I compared the 2020 version back in July and fell in love. I much prefer my weeks after the applicable month so I don’t have to flip back and forth all the time. You didn’t mention it but Wonderland is more of a system as there’s a notebook that goes with the planner to allow for a full 365 days of daily pages. So the planner is more like a Hobonichi weeks with some daily or blank anything goes pages and then it has a full 368 page book like having a Stalogy worth of dailies too. So you can be as minimal or as full on extra as you’d like which is nice. Although similar they are so different and Wonderland has so many new stuff in store including A6 size and some half year versions but it’ll be a bit on some of those items. But I can’t wait. I adore the wonderland. Just shared your stickers on my channel today with upcoming PWM videos using your kits.
Yes, you are right about the notebook. I mentioned it in my other video but wanted to keep this one just about the planner itself. Great to hear about the new products on the way for W222. And thanks!! I'll have to check it out!
@@JustScribbleSAME HERE! I religiously wait till January 1st to start in a new planner but I just simply cannot wait. In fact I've noticed that I've kind of lost my oomph with planning and journaling since I have to still be in the hobonichi until November!!! 😂
Thank you for this comparison!! I think the Hobonichi is the winner for me! The fact that the cousin is a full system on its own so that you don’t need to buy a separate book is a huge plus in my book. Not to mention the split weekends are a no go. Once again thanks for the comparison!
Thx so much for this video. I have been looking for an alternative to the hobonichi cousin for a long time. The Wonderland planner is PERFECT!!! I just ordered one for 2022 and can hardly wait 'til it gets here.😊😍
This is an interesting planner. I’m liking this planner, especially with the Tomoe River paper. It might be a good planner for my social media and RUclips channel. Thanks for reviewing this planner.
I love the Hobonichi, but I don't like how much space is wasted in the Japanese quotations on the daily pages (not to mention the pages in the back). I also dislike the color coding. I don't have my wonderland yet (should get it today, but the post office said it would be delayed), but I mostly went with it to have less wasted space.
I had never heard of the wonderland 222. Thanks for the intro. I think because it's so dark and not colorful i still like the hobonichi better. Good comparison 👏
Until now I wanted a Hobonichi, but I wasn't 100% convinced. thank you for your comparison. I think it will be a wonderland222 for me after all. thanks, good video (greetings from Germany)
This helped me quite a bit. I was wondering about the Wonderland 222. I really like my Hobonichi Cousin but was curious about the difference. After watching your video I realize it is not for me for a variety of reasons but the layout is the primary reason. Thank you for sharing this with us.
Don’t forget that the Wonderland222 has a 365 day notebook, and the one you reviewed plus the daily notebook fit together at the same time in an A5 notebook cover 😊
I love the comparison video and the thorough effort! Just one thing: the characters opposite the dates in the Hobonichi’s monthly aren’t the Japanese translations of the numbers. They’re there to mark which days are auspicious and which are not so if you want to plan important events like weddings, you know which ones are good days and which to avoid.
Don't be scared to switch it up and try both to see which works the best for you in your season! You might find that one works better for you when you are really busy and the other might be better when you are in a less busy season. I think a lot of people put too much pressure on themselves to make a planner decision for the WHOLE year. Just my thoughts!
Long-time hobo cousin user, went for the WL222 for 2022, was very happy and thought id be leaving hobo behind. After 3 weeks of very light and easy use, the whole text block separated from the back. I was gobsmacked as ive used at least a doz hobos and never had a spine problem- even with loads of tip-ins, collage, stickers and daily carry in my backpack. Been a week and no word back from company. Then i noticed all the ghosting! I use a Uni Pin 02 fineliner and never any ghosting in a hobo. I understood the paper was same gsm and quality tomoe river paper in the WL222, but it is not the same. For almost 40 bucks w shipping, I really expected alot more. Very disappointed not to hear from company. Im going back to my hobos.
I'm sorry that happened to you! I have heard that they updated the spine for the 2023 books, but yes! Also very sad that you haven't heard back from them yet! Hopefully soon!
Great overview. I just started planning in the Hobonichi Cousin this year, and I'm finding that I don't really use the daily pages as daily and hate seeing the blanks. I think this might be a great option!
With the occasional run over end day - it's smaller on the month page - but when you flip the page over, those days are included in the next month's page full size.
Which size are you referring to? We make kits for both planner companies because the size varies, but I have seen people using Hobonichi kits in W222 planners, it's just the fit isn't perfect.
@@MandyLynnPlans I have the A5 in Wonderland222 and I was wondering if the A5 in hobonichi monthly fit. I don't mind if they don't fit perfectly like if they are too small as long as the stickers aren't too big
I don't need all the extra planning pages from the W222 journal. The weekend pages are a deal breaker for me. I work every Saturday and need that space. Sunday is one of my busy days. I wish Hobonichi put the monthly with the weekly calander, but not a big deal breaker. I use gel pens all the time in my Hobo, but I do leave it open to dry. It only takes a minute though. If W222 had made it just like Hobo and a 2 book system I would switch in a heartbeat.
Cousin on Jetpens is $54 and free shipping. Direct Hobonichi website is $36 but shipping is pretty high and depends on if you get any other items. W222 is $42 with shipping.
Loved this review. Thank you. Can you please confirm the colour of the paper in each planner? I use a Hobo Weeks and the colour is an awful creamy beige so I stopped using it and now use a cut down Stalogy. I am switching from a Classic HP this year to a Harriet Wright Designs B6 next year. I love all of them but they're so bulky! So I purchased a Kinbor Techo to serve as a trial run for the Cousin but again the paper colour is still a bit off. Please tell me these planners use white paper?! 🙏x
A friend in the UK is contemplating the B6 and since I had never heard of the planner before, I had to check it out. Liked this comparison and would have loved a Wonderland, had it been available in the EU. I have started Hobonichi every year and abandon it every year due to the fact that I can not stand to see empty pages and wasted paper/trees. I do not have the time to fill in the daily pages so Wonderland's undated pages is totally me. And the fact that Wonderland basically is a pre-printed bullet journal, is great in my opinion. Question is, what is going to happen now when Tomoe River paper disappears from the market? The paper will change in both these books.
Don't lose hope on TRP yet. I've heard mixed things about it. ;) Regardless, I'm sure that these companies will still be able to make great planners with a different kind of paper, as much as it would pain me!
hobonichi wins. just cant beat a lot of things about it. having the daily pages numbered gives me no excuse to not write down my thoughts, tasks or goals on any given day

BiancaxLianne that’s what I’m using my A5 for - for work. I have a plan for my B6 too that I’ll be sharing soon (like within a week). So excited.
Good thoughts! Thanks for your input!
Yes!! I totally agree!

I just love the Hobonichi too much to change.
I don’t like the stacked weekends or the grey shadowing in the wonderland planner... that’s a deal breaker... thanks for the comparison.
Yes, those seem to be love or hate!
This was it for me as well

I'm with ya, I don't think I could go back to hobonichi after using the wonderland 222 planner/notebook. 😉
Mrs. Bee it’s so awesome right? I’m so excited to start in both my 2021 A5 and B6 in November and usually I like to wait until January!

does hobonichi monthly stickers fit the Wonderland222 monthly???

what is the price difference. Of course I can find this info but it would be good to include

No, sorry! I wish!! It’s not as cream as the Weeks, but still not a bright white.
Awesome comparison video!
Thanks!
Great comparison!
Thanks!
Are the grid sizes the same? I love the Cousin but I would put up with that stacked weekend for more room between lines of the grid
Oh, thanks for asking! I forgot to mention it.
The W222 is slightly larger!
Jenny X the Wonderland is a 3.9mm grid. The Cousin is a 3.7mm so wonderland is slightly larger.

I’m not sure!

Hey Amanda! Could you tell me how wide the Wonderland 222 weekly columns are (inches) please? 😊 thank you!!
1 and 11/16 inches
I cannot seem to find either of these types available for 2021. Do you know where I can buy? Thanks!
Several places that I know are out of stock. I recommend signing up for ‘in stock notifications’. I know JetPens does it!
I’m trying to order a cover for the wonderland 222....is the thickness size the same as the avec?
It is slightly thicker, since it has a different leatherette type finish to it.
Could you do me a favor and give me measurements of the width of the columns in the weekly horizontal pages of each planner?
Cousin- 1 and 5/16 inches
W222- 1 and 11/16 inches
Great review! Thank you for sharing! 😊
