I love how your entire (or mostly) entire video(s) are based purely on notes you took in your journal. I think it’s a testament to the value of such a practice.
Man you have absolutely no idea how much i want to cry right now, I have been needing a mentor to help me go through self-discovery and making myself more concious and aware of my own thoughts, i tried reading, i tried journaling, but I always ended up with the same conclusion, I needed someone to help me, to guide me through it. I sumbled upon your "ntebook to save you from infinite scroolling and boredom" video and the relief it gave me. I'm going to binge watch all of your videos tonights, even though I know you wouldn't aprove of that. Thank you so much.
I am so glad to be able to help you out through my videos. I'm still learning as well so it's cool to share what I learn as I learn and share what's worked for me. I'm looking forward to seeing your thoughts on my other vids
I feel like this is the simpler, consumer-level words for the types of notebooks: Self-mastery: planner External thought collection: commonplace Internal thought collection: journal
I get that but I think the categories include more than just those 2. External includes compendiums too. Internal includes catch-alls and not just journals as well as diaries which are different
I want to use mine for wonder and curiosity. For example, if i'm bored in a waiting room, I can observe the cars out the window or watch the staff. Then I can jot down simple questions such as "why did the person sitting across from me visit here?" Or, if i'm going shopping with my mom I can observe people and write down "Is this woman looking in this specific isle for ***** or possibly *****?" Just simple questions to keep my mind entertained while diving deeper into self education and random critical thinking. May seem weird to some, but to me it's better than video games and scrolling.
My English is not good, but I am trying to understand and apply your narratives from automatic translation and with my little English, your channel is very nice, I have not come across someone who explains as detail and beautiful as you, thank you for helping me light a light bulb in my head on this subject.
📓I definitely use my pocket notebook as a true catch-all. Everything goes in there. I use a Rite in the Rain 3.5x5 inch soft cover sidebound memo book which I think is an underrated gem in the world of pocket notebooks. More pages than a Field notes and much more durable. Waterproof pages and cover. Solid horizontal ruling and then dotted vertical lines so you get a hybrid grid that is great for note taking and sketching. Also the notebook is a tool all on its own, on the back cover is an imperial and metric ruler and inside the front cover are various map scales and measurement conversions. The only down sides that I have found are that the coating on the pages is unable to properly take gel or fountain pen ink and the edges aren’t coated as far as I can tell. So a prolonged soaking will eventually cause some damage, but I’ve never experienced that.
📓I give mad respect to you for all that you do and your notebook taking is a lot more organized and is inspiring! Especially the 7 RUclips channel pursuit. I'm trying to get my one in the big leagues knowing I'm hitting 6 different topics/goals! And I use the small notebooks as all 3 in a way plus record keeping. Then dump the important bits in my monthly journal of progress!!!!
I work a job in an isolated place with no internet. My notebook saves me. I doodle in it, write random stuff, to graphics and all. It helps dealing with boredom and loneliness.
I'm new here and a fan of notebooks 📓 I enjoy figuring out ways to consolidate notebook purposes - using the front of a notebook for contemplation, and flipping it over and using the back for storing proverbs or ideas to contemplate upon. I use a Traveller's Notebook (pocket) as my EDC and wallet, and have learned over the years that one notebook with minimal layouts for a bullet journal/planner, a second for 'brain-outs', and a third for long-form traditional journaling works best for me. Being able to keep them all in one portable place is exciting to me. Looking forward to watching more of your videos!
Travelers Notebook is to me the best pocket system because of the inserts- total freedom, personalization and easy to archive. Also the leather covers are beautiful ❤️
Please do one on a day in the life with your notebooks and please do more on your compendiums and deep thinking journals. Also, how do you use a journal when you read?
Like you, I am using several notebooks. One catch all that I keep in my pocket, then I find à moment in the day transcript everything in my other notebooks (thoughts/feelings, career, finances, etc.)
I would like to see how you do all your different cover pages. I think a lot of people get anxious to start when they see a blank book. The cover page helps get over that fear I think. I've been looking around for different ideas. I notice you have a mix of minimal covers and some decorated with stickers. Thanks for all you do! I also study philosophy, I'm about to finish my undergrad after study abroad. I also study Japanese so I used your proverb book idea to create a book of Japanese proverbs to contemplate while I'm out and about. I appreciate what you do here, keep being an inspiration!

Always love to see a new one about pocket notebooks. I'll be honest, I feel like I've become obsessed with them recently because of your videos, but what's even more funny is that I've bought myself a Pilot G2 and so far I'm loving it. Thank you for great content and for getting me into philosophy. 📓
I’d love to see how you keep this multitude of notebooks organized! And … you must often find yourself without the right notebook at hand so they must all have a bit of “other things in them, waiting for you to rewrite them in their true home. It’s a tall order!
Thank you for the functional division. I came to pretty much similar approach with self-organizing/conspecting/creating, but I quickly found out that there are also "levels of depth" or, let's say, lifespan division of notebooks. For example, in terms of self-organisation, I have a "Strategic One" which is not to be changed often as it holds my more overarching "quests". At the same time there is a "Seasonal One" which is dedicated to tracking what must be done this day or this week or this month - more like in what you say about a "catch-all". 📚
I would love a video on how to finish notebooks and what to do with them after they're done. Should we keep them to reflect on past ideas and thoughts? Or declutter for new ideas? 🤔
A fourth type of notebook is the "Log" notebook (like a ship's log). This can be used to keep track of work on projects; logging what you have done, research you conducted, reading completed, actual progress and work you have done on the project, etc.
I have all these notebooks however I struggle with writing everyday. Throughout the day, I’ll have ideas and theory I went to write about however, I never sit down just to write. Yet I am able to scroll on tiktok and RUclips for two hours with no problem 🤦🏽♀️🤦🏽♀️
I use the stopwatch on my Fitbit. I use 15 minutes, but you use whatever works for you. I decide how I am going to use each 15 minutes one block at a time. This is for work tasks, home chores, or leisure. You scroll for 2 hours because you don't have to decide to do it more than once. Things are designed to keep you from having to decide by streamlining the flow into the next video/dopamine source. I love leisurely scrolling on the same apps you mention, but I find having to consciously decide to commit another chunk of time each 15 minutes helps me say, "it's been enough, I should use the next one productively."
This was eye opening for me. I've always liked notebooks and used to keep diarys when I was young. I'm starting a new notebook journey this year with a couple cheap notebooks and so far they are just for anything I feel like. Any thoughts, ideas and feelings. I've always felt like thinking was a challenge for me and that my head is in a fog. I'm looking for clarity and hope it improves my mind and life. Thanks for demonstrating the possibilities and a little of your methods.
I like these categories. I'm new to using notebooks and pocket notebooks, I've typically just used my phone for quick notes and my iPad for written notes in the past. But I wanted to get away from the distractions on my iPad/phone which is why I turned to notebooks and found this channel. So far I'm using a larger notebook for planning my day, to do items, taking notes at work (your first category). Then I have a pocket notebook that is a blend of the other 2 categories, plus a place to just write things down that happen or something funny one of my kids says. Great video!
I like the catch-all notebook idea that can then be transferred to one “long form” deeper thought notebook, later. I struggle with having too many notebooks myself. What I love to use most is my Travelers Notebook with 3 inserts: one for scrappy ideas, one as a todo list/bullet journal and one with irregular diary entries-that I fill whenever I believe I need to get something off my chest. Love your content, though.
I also use three pocket notebooks, though I divide them quite differently: 1. Self improvement (both my own words and quotes from others, that serve as a guide to help me become a better person). 2. Mini commonplace book - all the mixed knowledge from various branches of science (including citations and my own reflections on them). All the things from this mini commonplace books later on are revised, transferred and organized in a larger commonplace book. 3. All the daily stuff - ideas or thoughts, that may seem useful later on, short impressions, etc. Except pocket notebooks I also use a calendar to structure my daytime activities and write to do lists.

Also, I tried to restrain myself from diving in on substance dualism in the propositional attitudes portion lest it rile you up too much 😅 so don't say I never did nothing for ya!
@ParkerNotes I watched the portion on propositional attitudes...and of course I thank you for not trying to upset me by mentioning substance dualism...that would really be putting Descartes before the horse...and it is of course, probably a debate for another time. I'm busy trying to organise my brain into Nietzsche's 'slave/priestly revolt' at present. Morality is always a good topic to discuss...and I can guarantee that you and I would disagree...but that's what they did in the coffee shops of London, Paris and Vienna, philosophers discussing and disagreeing. Thank you again my friend.
Hey Parker, you know, thanks to you, I've started taking notes again. And it's a very strange feeling. I started out with A4, I didn't like it at all. Then I got an A5, which was better, but not what I needed. And then by chance, I got A6 and it turned out to be the most successful format. Convenient to carry everywhere.
Just recently came across this channel and I have binge-watched most of your videos. I couldn't help but notice some Bavinck, NT Greek grammar, and a couple of John Frame titles (in your notes) and I got excited. Turns out you're a brother in Christ! Awesome content, brother! Do you ever consider doing some stuff on Bible reading and note-taking? SDG
Thanks! Yeah I'm thinking about how to do that on here. But I started a new channel for theology and philosophy teachings and it might end up over there. I started it but haven't launched the first video yet. Also you may like my philosophy/theology podcast: youtube.com/@ParkerNotes
📓 I use a Unison notebook for planning and journaling. On the right is a weekly planning bullet like list and on the left I put my notes and ideas. I also keep a small pocket notebook just to collect whatever and those pages get ripped out as I move those ideas and thoughts to where they need to live. I use the note taking app Craft as my tool to digitally capture my ideas and lists. I find it helpful to both write out my ideas and then type them. I would need a notebook just to track my notebooks if I were you! Thank you for this RUclips channel- I always find a nugget to use. Happy New Year!
📒 Enjoyed the overview and as a student of Human Factors your philosophy lesson was very insightful. I’m starting out my pocket notebook journey and feel a blend of all 3 for daily use is my plan. I’ll then transfer monthly or weekly into specific notebooks for record keeping and reflection. Thanks.
📓 Great video! I keep a Field Notes pocket notebook in my purse as a catch-all, since that’s always with me. I started keeping a reading log in its own pocket notebook (based on your method-thanks for that!). And I have a pocket notebook in my work bag to log how much time I spend on projects.
I have gone all in with pocket notebooks. I even ditched my phone for the gym and opted for a field notes notebook. I let the gym time be my phone free time now. My mind feels clearer. Now when I’m bored, instead of scrolling on my phone, I read what I wrote in my current pocket notebook or write a thought in it. The point of writing the thoughts is to curate ideas. If I like the idea or thought, it’ll make it to the next notebook, if not, it won’t stay in the notebook. I put a lot of Musashi philosophy in mine to think about as well as some thoughts I’ve had on living life.
I use field notes books for on the go. Their bellroy collab sleeve can hold 2. So I have 1 for a task list / quick notes. And one for when inspiring quotes, lyrics, ideas, and so on come to mind from both my inspirations and my own thoughts. Then at the end of the day if any of those inspirational entries have made their way into my “draft common place book” I take the ones that really hit home and put them into a leuchtturm a6 hard cover. I use that as my “hub” of those that I find of high importance. This way I don’t have to worry about any damage and loosing them when I’m out and about. Because fieldnotes books aren’t that expensive and LT1917 kind of is lol
I would love a video on how you organize and decide what notebooks to bring with you throughout your life. Do you have a backpack of all of them? Do some live at home full time? I love the organization of them but I wonder how practically you aren’t carrying loads of notebooks with you all the time, or maybe you are? 😏
Lol only sometimes. Usually I have a pocket notebook catch-all, and a commonplace book or my bullet journal. I have really cool briefcases to carry more when I go to the coffee shop to think though
@@ParkerNotes so funny you should mention briefcase! Sometime in early 2023 I started thinking about the briefcase my parents gifted me in the early 70s. One minute I’m wearing bellbottoms and fringed jackets in college and the next minute I’m asking my parents for a briefcase in preparation for my career life. I also started using.notebooks and planners of some sort back in high school in the early 70s. When I got my first career type jobi I remember purchasing a Filofax after I had saved up enough money. Those weren’t even that popular in the US but some finer retailers and pen shops did sell them. I was probably one of the first people to buy a FranklinCovey planner in the late seventies/early 80s and have been using them ever since. Anyway, got sidetracked so back to the briefcase. Back in 2023 I started obsessing about why I ever got rid of that briefcase. At some point in my life I must have decided I would never use it again, but I’m usually not the type to give something that special away, especially as it was a gift from my parents and it was leather and it was expensive at the time. It still upsets me. It was brown with gold hardware, the kind you snapped open. Man I loved the smell of the leather and the sound of that snap when you opened and closed it. Although I have several leather tote bags I was thinking how fun it would be to have a briefcase in my possession again. I imagined taking it to a coffee shop, laying it on the table flat, snapping it open and it would reveal several notebooks, a book I was currently reading, a journal, a nice leather rollup pencil case, my planner, etc., Sometimes digging through a never ending bottomless tote is a real pain. Once in a while, I will peruse Etsy and eBay for a vintage briefcase. I hadn’t thought about it in a while, so thanks for the reminder and trip down memory lane. Also thanks for all the notebook inspiration. I seem to collect notebooks but then neglect to write in many of them so it’s time to revisit some of them with all these great ideas you and others are sharing.. 🙂
I’ve tried using a pocket notebook because I’ve realized the diversions my devices often create for me in my notes app and stuff but I just can’t blend it in with my life style you know because i find writing terribly inconvient. A way I’ve attempted to make less friction for myself is by having only a notes widget and calendar as my entire Home Screen because i’m more likely to plan my day. If I can do it lying in my bed or on the bus or wherever then if I have to pull out a notebook and try to stabilize my hand or find a hard surface. I really wanna make this work though so any advice is sacred lol
📓Notebooks are awesome! I prefer catch alls, both internal and external. I write a lot of poetry and sketch, so is the best form for me. At the same time I try to self master through them.
📓 gotta say this is my favorite video of yours. Favorite definitely has to be self mastery and an internal ideation one. I’m thinking more deeply and more creatively thanks to you
I have a pretty annoying dilemma. I used Field Notes for years as a way to journal thoughts and ideas, but I eventually started feeling OCD about using them alongside the Notes app on my phone. I eventually switched to just journaling in FN and taking notes in Notes, but as a professional writer who also does long-form creative work digitally, I eventually switched to digital journaling too. My brain wants it all to be consistent, and with digital journaling, I save space, have more privacy, can search, and have the entirety of my journals with me everywhere I go. The problem is I've been missing Field Notes really badly lately, and I don't know how to fit them back into my writing life with this all or nothing OCD mentality. It's very hard to turn my back on digital journaling with all its benefits, but it's also not the same. This may be an impossible personal problem.
📔📙📘📗📓📚📕📖📒 More and more notebooks! My friend, you’re a true inspiration to really open your mind. Thank you so so much. I enjoy every video that you take the time to share and make for us. 18:55 I currently use a five-year journal, a travelers company, notebook, and planner, a Moleskine pocket book for ideas and an A5 notebook for art. You can never have enough notebooks. Thanks again. 18:55
Right now trying to figure out if I want to use a Field Notes or similar pocket notebook and transform it into a weekly/daily planner and to do list/self mastery notebook or get a regular dedicated planner. I've gotten a planner the past 2 years and while I enjoyed having it, I found that a lot of weeks, I'd fill out the planner at the beginning of the week, throw it my work bag, and then not open it up again until getting ready to prep for the next week.... if I switch to a pocket planner then it will be with me all the time and I'm always getting out my regular thoughts/ideas notebook so if I pair a small field notes with it I think I might be ok. And of course I probably am overthinking the whole thing hahaha. 📓
Bro this is the channel for overthinking notebooks hahaha! I am with you and if it helps, I agree with your line of thinking here. Try the pocket version and see if it helps!
I do not make difference between external and internal becs ever since I read Ulysses and some Blaise Pascal, I knew I chew thoughts of others...But thoughts are different from feelings, and different from planning/execution. I think that people of today are also now in need of how to express themselves thought content creation (my pet peeve word de jour), so dastardy plans is just top notch idea!
I have a schedule book for my appointments and tasks, a gratitude journal to write 5 good things that happen to me every day, and a journal for letting out my thoughts and feelings and write in depth about important events. I’m thinking I should add a smaller one for brainstorming and business ideas, as well as creative writing.
Amazing video man! These videos have been really helpful for me since I’ve always wanted to start journaling consistently but when the time comes to put pen to paper, I don’t know where to start 😂 So it’s been really great to get ideas on how to approach this great practice! Looking forward to the next video! Cheers 📓
I love those too because I can carry multiple notebooks together. I keep one notebook for my fiction ideas, one for my non fiction ideas, & sometimes my journal.
Ive been following you a while and love how you inspire me to use my notebook and stationery obsession :) then The Smythson pops up just after I had done a video on them lol, Never realised they where in Sherlock Holmes. It’s so funny how lives and ideas can cross /merge with people who never meet or talk…. I’m Sure there will be some deep philosophy about this idea….maybe i should jot that in my pocket notebook ;)
🐈🪢couldn't find a mat haha 📒 Like your videos. They had inspired me to use and keep using at least a single pocket notebook and carry it everywhere I go.
Subbed. Like your stuff. Both philosophy and theology. I was particularly curious about your self-mastery pocket notebook, the bullet-journal / timeblocking one. I'm going to try to track down more content of yours on that topic. I'm reeling with digital fatigue and failed half-started systems, and wanting to exert a little more order over chaos, comissioned gardner style. If I can follow your bullet-journal interpretation and timeblocking system, that looked very digestible from the very short clip you showed above. I got lost in the marginalia in my first bullet journal efforts, and that was prior to having two kids...
Hello ParkNotes! I have been beginning to watch your videos on notebooks, and note taking and i have built up a question i was wondering what your answer would be. With all these kinds of notes journals, compendiums, commonplace books, etc. which one would you choose if you could only have one. Or if you would combine them how would you do it? Which ones would you combine.? Just a thought if you have the time, Thanks.
📓Keep it up! I love to see how others improve their lives through the use of intentional writing things out. With my Lochby Pocket Notebook organizer, I have my two (2) field notes/log and jotter notebooks, one with my goals, life plans, and habit trackers and one that is a daily log of self mastery and reflection. Truly life changing. Plus it carries my credit cards, pen/pencil, and cash in as well.
I know you primarily make videos concerning various notebooks, but do you think you could make a video books on a select list of categories (I.e., philosophy, theology, history, etc) that you’ve either (1) enjoyed most or (2) found to be most informative on the given topic. I love reading, but even more so I love studying. It would be so helpful if there were a list of books that I should buy to study more deeply a given topic. Seeing as you’re an expert in philosophy and theology, and these two topics are my area of interest as well, if you could point me in the right direction that would help immensely. Although, I totally understand if it’s not something you’d be willing to do. Thanks! I appreciate your videos very much. 🙂
I would highly suggest trying out some of the Holtz Leather products. Some of them are pretty pricey but they are handmade in a city near me and are some of the best quality notebook covers I’ve ever owned and are definitely worth the price.
Only question I have.. how many pockets do you have? Lol.. Do you bring different ones depending on where you go? Do you carry them all? I’ve always had on I carry and keep by my keys. Another time I’m by my bigger notebooks.
Haha I have a lot. Different purposes. I bring different ones depending on the situation and the clothes I'm wearing or based on if I'm trying out a new brand. If I have one that's almost complete then I'll usually favor that one so I can finish it up. Always feels good to fill one in
Makes sense… You’re right about finishing it! It’s a good feeling of accomplishment and responsibility.. Anyway, would love to see a video of how you like to travel with them, where you keep them for organization (if any), how you decide which ones to bring along depending on the situation. Etc.. Put it in your pocket book sir..😅 Thanks for the reply!! Side note - I’m an entrepreneur, so for years I’ve always kept one on me.. More for out in the field reminders, and ideas. I’m a front pocket guy.😅
I have one that my bullet journal and catch all at the back of it. And then I keep on of quotes, sayings, deep thoughts I have ( I know doesn’t happen too often 😂) poems etc
So awesome! I love that other people are doing this too!

In my pocket 📓 (😉), I don't discriminate between my own and third party ideas. The moment I reflect on a quote or aphorism, the two categories get mixed up anyway. What I might add is a (blank or dotted) notebook for mind mapping or sketching/doodling. Bot can be very helpful for certain creative or intellectual endeavors.
I used to doodle way more I'm looking to start taking some drawing classes though
10 месяцев назад
@@ParkerNotes Looking forward to seeing your doodles in your future videos, then ^^ I keep a Bullet Journal / self-actualization journal (see David Epstein) and really like to make little drawings/sketches to illustrate the entries. It helps justify keeping several different pens and pencils around 😁
📓Sir , I want to ask how to manage this much notebooks ? Also one another question: Can we use iPad for other books . I know writing on page is very different feeling but it can store multiple things can be accessed from anywhere. I want to know your thoughts. Thank you for the video.
Reading Lila by Robert Persig at the moment and seeing your stacks of notebooks reminded me of his cue-card system of thought organisation! Do you have a notebook to help you with the organisation of your other notebooks?? Like an index? Do you ever throw out notebooks and if so when do you do it? Just discovered your channel yesterday, hello from Japan!
I keep an index in a couple of my notebooks, still working on the one to rule them all. I never throw them away because I never know when I'll need to read back on them. So glad you found my channel! Welcome!
I just use one notebook for everything: prayer, contemplation, notes for my seminary classes, thoughts on books/reviews (also movies) fun quotes, budget……all in one messy disorganized notebook lol
They might have been a limited run. But it's a leuchtturm1917 A6. Here's an affiliate link if you wanna support my channel amzn.to/47hI7SV Scroll through the available colors. I don't see the gold but maybe you can find it somewhere else
@@ParkerNotesThanks, but I was asking about the one that has the book of Proverbs already printed in it. I would love to buy it through an affiliate link. I really appreciate your channel.
oh gotcha! yeah here's the Saddleback affiliate link to the Proverbs pocket book saddlebackleather.com/leather-book-of-proverbs?ktk=d0pac01BLTdhNzM2M2E4ZGRj
I was hoping you would spend a little more time talking about the Smythson notebook, but aren’t a stationary review channel, so it makes sense. They are my favorite notebooks, I have not found anything that compete, but of course for the price they better be the best.
Do you use these panamas or some other ones? I love them. I like that they're not refillable actually too. More risk of messing them up though haha. I'm going to talk about this one more in future videos. This one was basically just and overview to give people the core ideas
@@ParkerNotesmostly the original Panamas, but I also picked up some of the Chelsea size in Panama. They are great for a normal journal. At an end of year sale I was able to pick up some of the clearance colors (silver with notes printed on the front) for a great price. I also have a wafer in Panama, but I haven’t started using that on yet.
Bro, all the leather in your office must smell amazing! 😂 I'd love to hear what you are actually carrying with you at all times. Do your other notebooks just live in your office, or are you carrying a bag full of small notebooks everywhere? 📖
I have a sweet leather briefcase or two too haha. I choose different notebooks to bring on different occasions. Always a pocket notebook or three though
A pocket/mini ringbinder with dividers sounds like a good idea if you use so many types of pocket notebooks that they wouldn't fit in a pocket anymore. 😉
@@ParkerNotes Discbound notebooks, in some ways even more flexible than ringbinders, especially if you want to move pages from one notebook to the other. Disadvantage is that this can't be done as often as with ringbinders.
since i started watching your videos, i got myself a notebook for thoughts and ideas. as someone with adhd, i found it intimidating and difficult to journal. i have too many thoughts and ideas and interests to pick them out and put into words. any tips there?
i recently found a brand new pocket Moleskine in my local thrift shop for under 2 euros so i took it as a sign to start notes for my internal ideation in 2024
You don't carry all of these pocket notebooks on a daily basis, correct? I have two pocket notebooks that I carry and then I transfer the relevant information to my main notebook when time permits.
Correct. I usually carry 2. When I wear a coat I bring 3. Idea catch-all, true catch-all (usually my wallet), and the occasional 3rd is a contemplatio or a commonplace book. If I bring a briefcase then I will often bring more and chill at a coffee shop between meetings and see which one calls to me
You are so good at taking notes, you are going to make college professors have to study how to take notes by referencing your notes. I mean this in a joking manner.Lol.
I just find it very interesting that you use these systems. Some that you found, and some that you made, to take so many forms and different kinds of notes to help with so many different subjects and topics. I am starting to try to do the same thing, but wish me luck in getting that far.
Hi, I've been binging your content today and saw you had a commonplace book regarding the philosophy of mind. I was wondering if you had any book recommendations for the topic??
Yeah definitely, I like Jaegwon Kim's Philosophy of Mind for an intro. It can get pretty dense and idk how much philosophy you've had, so if it's too much in a section just skim and move on
Looking at all of those cases you have in the beginning, which one do you like the best? I typically use thin notebooks, and I was trying to decide if I go for the Belroy or field notes leather cover. do you have a recommendation? In watching your videos, I’m gaining an appreciation for having a thicker book. With something like a moleskin, do you think it’s necessary to have a leather cover or will the stock soft sided version handle life in the back pocket?

I feel like this is the simpler, consumer-level words for the types of notebooks:
Self-mastery: planner
External thought collection: commonplace
Internal thought collection: journal
I get that but I think the categories include more than just those 2. External includes compendiums too. Internal includes catch-alls and not just journals as well as diaries which are different
What about ones that are used for capturing and generating creative ideas? Like writers notebooks for example
@TheImaginaryCat maybe a Creativity journal.
I got to many pocket notebooks because of you.
Hahah I'm sorry 😅
😅 Me too
aint we all...
Literally got my first pocket notebook 2 weeks ago because of this channel
Same i use to have only one now i have eleven.
I'll have to check them out!
🫡 thank you!! This is really encouraging
Thanks! I keep hearing more and more about travelors but I haven't started using mine yet. Got a favorite brand?
Travelers Notebook is to me the best pocket system because of the inserts- total freedom, personalization and easy to archive. Also the leather covers are beautiful ❤️
Favorite brand?
Travelers company!
Please do one on a day in the life with your notebooks and please do more on your compendiums and deep thinking journals.
Also, how do you use a journal when you read?
Thanks for this! I'll add them to the idea list!

You are my greatest inspirations to change my way of living, thinking and analysing! You are the best Mr Park! 📓
This is awesome!!! Thank you for this encouragement!
Always love to see a new one about pocket notebooks. I'll be honest, I feel like I've become obsessed with them recently because of your videos, but what's even more funny is that I've bought myself a Pilot G2 and so far I'm loving it. Thank you for great content and for getting me into philosophy. 📓
Haha sorry about the obsession! It'll calm down (probably 😅). Thanks for this comment, I'm very glad to be luring you deeper into philosophy
I am a papercrafter and I use these often. I buy the composition books (mini, half, and full) and decorate them!! 😊 I have several videos on same.
I’d love to see how you keep this multitude of notebooks organized! And … you must often find yourself without the right notebook at hand so they must all have a bit of “other things in them, waiting for you to rewrite them in their true home. It’s a tall order!
That's why I always have a catch-all pocket notebook with me. That's the first stop and I disperse from there
bro got a distracting moustache

Keep keep keep!! Haha but I'll add this to the list!
I feel this too! If I start my day time blocking it helps. If I don't I could waste the whole day, not exaggerating
I also use three pocket notebooks, though I divide them quite differently:
My main nailed the alliteration of Kognitive Fatigue from Konstant Kontekst switching. Awesome.

That's a great summary Parker. I use the example you gave of the 'ideas' notebook...which I transfer to my a5 or a4 notebooks in the evening.
I love that! Such a great method!
A6s are great! I'm honored to have helped you start taking notes again for real!
@@ParkerNotes That's right, you know how to spark interest in diaries)
Happy New Year! Thanks for sharing this!
Thanks.
Awesome!! So glad you liked it and thanksnfor sharing what you're currently working with
📓 Great video! I keep a Field Notes pocket notebook in my purse as a catch-all, since that’s always with me. I started keeping a reading log in its own pocket notebook (based on your method-thanks for that!). And I have a pocket notebook in my work bag to log how much time I spend on projects.
I love this!! So glad to provide an idea or two here and there!!
I totally get this line of reasoning!
I love that. Always good to hear how other people are using them
Reminds me of a 14th century zibaldone. There is an article in Atlas Obscura if you want to check it out
@@TheImaginaryCat Didn't know about it, thank you! I will make sure to check it out!
📓 gotta say this is my favorite video of yours. Favorite definitely has to be self mastery and an internal ideation one. I’m thinking more deeply and more creatively thanks to you
This is amazing to hear!! I'm actually honored that I get to play a small part in your journey!
bringing a pocket notebook to a jiu-jitsu class is just WILD, greetings from a brazilian friend, OSS!
Haha for sure! I take the notes after drilling, before sparring and after sparring.
@ParkerNotes Makes sense. I have a notebook for the gym. I keep track of what exercises I do and what weights I’m at.
I'm obsessing over notebooks and pens, I love to write and having my notebook in my pocket always reassures me
What kind of pens do you like?
📔📙📘📗📓📚📕📖📒 More and more notebooks! My friend, you’re a true inspiration to really open your mind. Thank you so so much. @@ash_days_thank you!
📓I really like what you have been presenting. I hope to adapt some of your great methods.
Thank you!! I'm pumped to be able to help present ideas for you
Right now trying to figure out if I want to use a Field Notes or similar pocket notebook and transform it into a weekly/daily planner and to do list/self mastery notebook or get a regular dedicated planner.
You're crushing it!! Great work. I'm sure other people are going to benefit from these ideas! Thanks for sharing them with us
Amazing video man! These videos have been really helpful for me since I’ve always wanted to start journaling consistently but when the time comes to put pen to paper, I don’t know where to start 😂 So it’s been really great to get ideas on how to approach this great practice! Looking forward to the next video! Cheers 📓
This was such a fun and useful video for me to watch because I’m mad about pocket notebooks and I need ideas how to use them. Thank you 📓
I love that! I'm so glad to enable other noteheads like me 😆
📓 I was thinking of using notebooks for a while now, thank you for giving me a more refined idea of how to use them.
My favorite is the travelers notebook passport size. Everyone should give it a try!
They're on my list
I love those too because I can carry multiple notebooks together. I keep one notebook for my fiction ideas, one for my non fiction ideas, & sometimes my journal.
Love that you have Bovink on your shelf.
Bavinck is my dude!
📓I found your video cause I’m trying to find more ways to be more organized. Loved your video!
Oh I'm so glad it was helpful!!
🐈🪢couldn't find a mat haha
📒 Like your videos.
Great question! I'd choose a catch-all pocket notebook. And incorporate all the others into it. In fact, I did that for a long time
📓Keep it up!
They're on the list for sure
Love your content, inspiring stuff.
Thank you!! 🙌
Excellent video. A pocket notebook is the most helpful thing I carry daily.
Etc.. Put it in your pocket book sir..😅
Thanks for the reply!!
I also have my main general catch all notebook 😁
From it I classify info to my other notebooks
That's awesome! I love catch-alls
Welcome!
Where is the pocket notebook that keeps track of all the other pocket notebooks? Love the channel. I'm just trying to keep up.
I love that book of Proverbs you have....where did you find it? I want one it's small and would fit perfectly in my small purse!!!
They had them at Home Goods and Marshall's for like 5 bucks 🤯 you might be able to find them on Leuchtturm1917's website or on ebay
Flame Tree Notebooks have everything I need and are BEAUTIFUL
I'll check them out
I just use one notebook for everything: prayer, contemplation, notes for my seminary classes, thoughts on books/reviews (also movies) fun quotes, budget……all in one messy disorganized notebook lol
@ParkerNotes have you any tips how to find something in your notes you have take let’s say six months, a year ago?
Where can we buy a Pocket Book of Proverbs like that one in the video? Super idea for something to carry around. Thanks! 📒
They might have been a limited run. But it's a leuchtturm1917 A6. Here's an affiliate link if you wanna support my channel amzn.to/47hI7SV
Scroll through the available colors. I don't see the gold but maybe you can find it somewhere else
Nvm found it: amzn.to/47noAQW
@@ParkerNotesThanks, but I was asking about the one that has the book of Proverbs already printed in it. I would love to buy it through an affiliate link. I really appreciate your channel.
oh gotcha! yeah here's the Saddleback affiliate link to the Proverbs pocket book saddlebackleather.com/leather-book-of-proverbs?ktk=d0pac01BLTdhNzM2M2E4ZGRj
@@ParkerNotesThanks!
Hi thanking for your videos , wanted to ask you where did you get the small proverbs book

Or how about using a disc notebook?
What's disc notebook?
@@ParkerNotes Discbound notebooks, in some ways even more flexible than ringbinders, especially if you want to move pages from one notebook to the other. Disadvantage is that this can't be done as often as with ringbinders.
I carry one for a combination of an idea bank, quotes, and positives of the day.
Sounds really great!
ive been watching you since the very start. i am so freaked out like, so many notebooks. omg
Haha please don't be like me. But if you are encouraged to start one more notebook then I'll be happy 😆
It’s so cool seeing Van Til and Bavinck on your shelf! Neo-Calvinism is great lol
since i started watching your videos, i got myself a notebook for thoughts and ideas. as someone with adhd, i found it intimidating and difficult to journal. i have too many thoughts and ideas and interests to pick them out and put into words. any tips there?
Start with one and pull the thread
i recently found a brand new pocket Moleskine in my local thrift shop for under 2 euros so i took it as a sign to start notes for my internal ideation in 2024
Awesome! Great find!
Dude you’re bonkers!
That's true!
What notebook is the one you're using? I'm looking for an A5 grid one like you're using as well! Thanks for the vid.
It's a Midori MD. Probably my favorite grid design
I like a combination of self mastery and journal/diary
That's awesome!
My king we've missed you...GLAD TO RECEIVE YOUR WISDOM ONCE AGAIN 😤😤😤📓
Haha at your service! 🫡
Classic Latin pronunciation: "Con tem PLAH tee oh"
I believe its the way you say it in Medieval Latin😊
me siento aliviada de que a todos amamoslo analogico , argentina
I did not mean for that to turn into a link either.
It can get pretty dense and idk how much philosophy you've had, so if it's too much in a section just skim and move on
📓my aspirational favourite is my leuchtturm dot grid. My most used/ revealed preference is for folded up loose leaf goldenrod from the dollar store.
I love that! Thanks for sharing!
