I have to say over the years of cooking plant-based vegan, I always added spices minimally. And until I increased the amounts of herbs the soups stews always tasted blah lol. Now I've incorporated the hand measurements as you so rightly do lol it makes a world of difference in the taste adding enough spices. Love the recipe❤ Happy New Year
Handful works for when you need TBSP or cups. For smaller amounts, a fingertipful is about right lol
Hey.....just made this soup .....watched the video about an hour ago. It looked a lot quicker than the lentil soup I was going to make. It turned out wonderful. I added most of the ingredients Dillon did but added liquid smoke and celery seed at the end. The liquid smoke made it a wonderful soothing smokey chowder. Liquid smoke would made dirt taste good. I also used a potato masher to make it creamier. It was pretty wonderful. Thanks Dillion and Reebs
I took a stab at this recipe and LOVED it! I tweaked it a bit for my needs and preferences (but still keeping it quick and easy), such as adding in more veggies, some beans, swapping out the broth for water (and then using Mrs. Dash to create my own simple broth), adding some Tabasco for some kick, cutting back on the plant milk, and increasing the portion size (as I like to batch cook -- this will be my breakfasts for the upcoming week). Here's my version below. Thanks for sharing this, you two. Love your channel!
Serves: 12 or about 8 (3 cup) servings
Total Time: 1 hour and 35 minutes (from the moment you step into your kitchen, to all the prep, to the cooking, to when it is completely done)
INGREDIENTS
-- 7 cups water
-- 1 cup unsweetened, oil-free plant milk (I used the Oatley low-fat, oil-free brand)
-- 3 (12 oz.) bags of frozen mixed vegetables (the ones I used consisted of broccoli florets, sugar snap peas, green beans, carrots, celery, red bell peppers, and mushrooms)
-- 2 (32 oz.) bags of frozen cubed potatoes
-- 3 (15 oz.) cans of black beans (no salt) (use the juice)
-- 1 (12 oz.) bag of frozen corn
-- 1 cup of uncooked farro grain (cook separately -- add to pot at end)
-- 1/2 cup of nutritional yeast flakes
-- 3 TBS. garlic powder
-- 3 TBS. Mrs. Dash
-- 2 TBS. dried parsley
-- 3 TBS. dried chives
-- 1 TBS. dried tarragon
-- 1 TBS. paprika
-- 4 TBS. Tabasco
INSTRUCTIONS
1) Add all the ingredients -- except the farro grain -- into a large pot. Bring to a boil. Covered. Stir periodically. Then, reduce heat to a simmer, and cook for 20 minutes. Covered. Stir periodically (making sure the potatoes don't burn).
2) Turn off the heat. Add the cooked farro grain. Give it all a good stir. Serve hot.

I make various versions of your potato/corn chowder.....YUMMMM Sometimes I use an immersion blender if I want it "creamier". It's all good, no matter what.

I made this today. I used the original Silk soy milk. Overall, the dish was very flavorful. Next time I think I would blend up corn to give it some creaminess and omit the soy milk. I also added too much tarragon, but that was also my first time using tarragon. I am calling it a huge win because I learned about two ingredients I had never used, cooked without precise measurements yet the world did not end, learned what makes something a chowder, and I have a lot of tasty leftovers for my meals this week. Thanks a DILLion!!!!

Just threw a pot of this together. Smells amazing! Can’t wait to taste it. Had hash browns and roasted corn, frozen shredded carrots. I did have to slice some celery as I didn’t have the frozen mixes. Used fennel seeds and basil since I didn’t have tarragon.
Wow, I made this with store bought vegetable broth & didn't really love it. Today, I made it WYW vegetable broth and love it!
I had to work late today so I decided to made your soup. It is sooooo good! I love that all the ingredients came from my freezer and pantry. I used shredded potatoes and a bag of mixed vegies because that is what I had on hand and I am very pleased with the results! Thank you!!👏☺️

Mmmm I love soup season! As soon as my big pot of Not- Chicken Soup is gone, I"m making this! Edit: I made a huge batch yesterday and it’s SO good! I chopped my own trio and used a bag of frozen soup vegs in addition to what the potatoes O’Brien had. And ended up with like 12 servings

Thank you for the quick, easy and delicious looking recipe! Anyone here from LA? Does anyone know a grocery store that carries frozen potatoes withoutl added oil? Also Dillon and Reebs, what's your experience with your labs eating an oil free diet? I've been trying to eat oil free to get rid of my cramps (following Dr. Barnard 's protocol). But now my LDL is down to 38 and my doctor is concerned about it ( he is a vegan/ lifestyle medicine doctor). 🤔

Made this for my lunch today, delicious! Used quite a lot of your Voodoo as always. Though mine didn’t have your nice golden color because I left the red skin on my potatoes so it was kind of an unappetizing gray. I had to eat with my eyes closed.😂 next time I will take the skin off or use the bagged frozen hashbrowns!

I love this soup. I just made a pot of it and couldn't resist a few extra additions - Spinach, fresh green beans, carrots, and hot pepper flakes. I didn't add any soy milk cause I don't like all the additives in most plant based milks plus I prefer a broth based soup over a milky one. It tastes fabulous. I am eating a bowl now and playing your current live and Dillion mentioned how horrible cheese is. I love cheese!! I went to Neal Barnard on RUclips and listened to some of what he has to say and I'm totally disgusted with cheese. I almost couldn't finish my bowl of soup it made me so sick.

Canned corn is great! We found that canned potatoes are quite salty, so we don't recommend it.

I live in a city with no Trader Joe's (in BC, Canada) and so I cannot buy the hashbrowns and the other bags (but I also don't like to eat prepackaged foods that are roasted in oil)
I’ve never bought or even seen hashrbowns at TJ. They are for sale at all regular grocery stores here.

Soymilk is about half fat (on a calorie basis) its not a bad thing, you need fat, but saying it doesn't just isn't true
That's why soymilk is creamy
The soy milk we use is about 1/3 calories from fat. 25% carbs and 45% protein.
