  • Julian Assange is back home in Australia a free man after a plea deal with US authorities. His private jet landed at Canberra airport where he was welcomed by his wife Stella and his father. His freedom follows a two-hour court appearance before a judge in a US Pacific territory where he pleaded guilty to violating American laws. This marks an end to a 14 year long legal battle with the US government over leaked documents and classified military files which he published on his WikiLeaks platform.

As an Aussie and a former member of WLP (Wikileaks Party) I can confirm that far more Europeans support Assange than Aussies. I used to be contradicted and yelled at during the elections as a WLP supporter while handing out the Wikileaks pamphlets. I was also bullied by the Labour Party representatives and their gorillas in certain electorates. Maybe 2-3 people out of hundreds supported Julian at my work, wherever I used to work. I am sad to say that this hero has been constantly belittled by the Aussies. People do not care much about him as they believe everything their government and their allies say about him. I hope the Aussie will grow some guts and have courage to think for themselves to be open enough and see that this is our hero and that we should all be proud of him.

It was not just about bringing an Aussie home, it was about the legal precedent that an Aussie citizen who did no crime in Australia was detained and served prison time without being convicted of a crime in Australia or elsewhere. The reporting in this segment is a bit lazy. If that reporter had watched coverage locally, she would have had a much deeper understanding of what the issue was.

    Great news!
No one should be punished for exposing errors, even if these are committed by our military.
Our military have committed errors in the past probably just like all others.
I do understand that in a military conflict, it is difficult to distinguish friends from foes.
There is a Japanese proverb, “Saru mo ki kara ochiru 猿も木から落ちる” (Even monkeys fall from trees), which reminds us that even the best of us can fall and stumble: nobody's perfect, mistakes are inevitable.
Just like the monkey, we learn, we rise and we grow ever stronger, ever wiser.

So no mention that his origional arrest in the UK was due to a 4th degree rape charge from Sweden. The one he evaded prosecution for by hiding in an embassy till their statute of limitations timed out. I know rape laws in Sweden demand consent for every act, and not bothering to wake your partner up the next morning before you set too again would not get you charged in Australia, UK or USA BUT still........ Thats why he was first arrested here not for Wikileaks.
