- Julian Assange is back home in Australia a free man after a plea deal with US authorities. His private jet landed at Canberra airport where he was welcomed by his wife Stella and his father. His freedom follows a two-hour court appearance before a judge in a US Pacific territory where he pleaded guilty to violating American laws. This marks an end to a 14 year long legal battle with the US government over leaked documents and classified military files which he published on his WikiLeaks platform.

What a joy to see him walking out of a harsh prison into freedom! What a happy time for his entire family. Congratulations to his wife and all the other relentless supporters.
"do they all view it possitively?" No - we couldn't ask every Aussie yet. He is a free man in Australia! Greetings from the EU. Enjoy life, Julian.
I think Ms. Needham is right saying some of what should or could be communicated or published is debatable.
The general consensus is, this had been ongoing for too long.

Snowden 😂
Both men ran.
@@facitenonvictimarum174 The guy who was executed for his crimes said that?
Happy to see Julian Assange is now a free man
Now that we agree to reveal the truth about things, lets talk about VACCINES!
Independent journalists with journalistic integrity are the heroes of our time. A win for Assange is a win for humanity.
He worked for Russia to interfere US election
Ruzzian propagandist. Lmao DIAF
Much Love From Canada for Free Assange! ❤
Lol, Chelsea Manning literally served less time in prison than Julian spent self exiled.
Gott sei Dank
Amen 🙏🏼
One of the few real journalists left and I could not be happier he is free.
A rare win for humanity. It's rare to find a piece of good news in the political spectrum nowadays.
The crimes of the U.S. cannot be forgotten or forgiven.
NICE! DO SNOWDEN NEXT!
What you gonna do about it?

I I have forgotten and forgiven so yes they can.
Brings tears watching this hero hug his family, it’s about damn time.
Good for you ♡♡♡ Now, please leave him alone. Let him live his life. ❤❤❤ 😊 🎉
Thank you for covering this DW. We must show some deference to our ideals or we may not have them!
As an Aussie and a former member of WLP (Wikileaks Party) I can confirm that far more Europeans support Assange than Aussies. I used to be contradicted and yelled at during the elections as a WLP supporter while handing out the Wikileaks pamphlets. I was also bullied by the Labour Party representatives and their gorillas in certain electorates. Maybe 2-3 people out of hundreds supported Julian at my work, wherever I used to work. I am sad to say that this hero has been constantly belittled by the Aussies. People do not care much about him as they believe everything their government and their allies say about him. I hope the Aussie will grow some guts and have courage to think for themselves to be open enough and see that this is our hero and that we should all be proud of him.
"and their gorillas" ? 🦍😂
Aussies are too sensitive of the distant past. Oz, love your liberty!!! Or it will be lost.
sorry to hear it
Much love from North Korea, please visit us.
Wonderful News
Why did he plead guilty?
I am astounded
Glad to see a Queenslander is now home, or at least close to home.
Honestly? I didn't see this coming
This bloke will never be free!😊
It was not his private jet.

He lost his best years from 38 to 52.Glory to independent British justice. What about the 2 Swedish virgins who made the first move?
karma is coming for them, and they will be judged. one way or another

Fluff. No content.Single count of espionage, sentence was time served.
Now that we agree to *reveal the truth* about things, lets talk about *VACCINES!*
Family man now rather than Paul, Danielle. Good Luck!
Finally a free man.. hope he stays out of trouble.
It was not just about bringing an Aussie home, it was about the legal precedent that an Aussie citizen who did no crime in Australia was detained and served prison time without being convicted of a crime in Australia or elsewhere. The reporting in this segment is a bit lazy. If that reporter had watched coverage locally, she would have had a much deeper understanding of what the issue was.
Great news!
No one should be punished for exposing errors, even if these are committed by our military.
Our military have committed errors in the past probably just like all others.
I do understand that in a military conflict, it is difficult to distinguish friends from foes.
There is a Japanese proverb, “Saru mo ki kara ochiru 猿も木から落ちる” (Even monkeys fall from trees), which reminds us that even the best of us can fall and stumble: nobody's perfect, mistakes are inevitable.
Just like the monkey, we learn, we rise and we grow ever stronger, ever wiser.
I’m glad he served his time.
Finally
Nowadays a person acting above the law is called an activist. "What a wonderful world"

“Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.”

You are saying "walk free" but he was arrested, right? Not exactly 'free' and 'guilty' in the deal plea.
He is 'free' and he can 'walk free' - He has some restrictions but he is not going to spend time in jail or anything like that.
Nobody put cuffs on him or anything like that.
So whats your point here?
He wasnt convicted of anything but was arrested and jailed. Now he has been "released" in exchange for a plea deal.
So not free and falsely jailed.
Unless I am missing something here?
Independent journalists with journalist integrity are rare commodity in these days.
He must have chanted USA USA USA 101 times
He finally agreed to chant USA USA USA USA USA
I personally think Assange is kind of a reckless jackass. But this is an unambiguously positive development for transparency and freedom of information in a world where these things are increasingly assailed by governmental surveillance apparatuses.
Apart from the inevitable defeat of the tory party in the upcoming UK election, this is the good news story of the month.
FREE ASSANGE.
The USA military complex is powerful but it can be beaten.
The military complex must not conduct illegal operations.
The justice system in the USA is one to be envied too much to learn from it.
Happy to see him home, but he’s not a hero!
Aussies are welcome to him.
Thanks, mate. Glad to have him. We live in a democracy with a free press.
@@darrenkoch1718until he starts posting aussie classified business then they’ll make a reason to arrest him
@@darrenkoch1718 Tell that to David McBride. A whistleblower exposing Australian war criminals and fascists acting on behalf of the USA, then betrayed by the media and facing jailtime.
So then, it's wipe the dust off and straight back to work for Julian.
He needs to run for Australian Parliament.
That would be a great start. Look at Nelson Mandela... labeled a terrorist and jailed by the Apartheid state for decades... then released and almost immediately elected president of S. Africa.
No thanks to Australia gov.
So no mention that his origional arrest in the UK was due to a 4th degree rape charge from Sweden. The one he evaded prosecution for by hiding in an embassy till their statute of limitations timed out. I know rape laws in Sweden demand consent for every act, and not bothering to wake your partner up the next morning before you set too again would not get you charged in Australia, UK or USA BUT still........ Thats why he was first arrested here not for Wikileaks.
Free from safety
I hope he won't commit "suicide"
Let's see how long he stays A L I V E. I really hope its the end of the nightmare for someone who did more for justice than the entire judicial system. It boggles the mind how Snowden has to "live" in Russia to be protected of the USA. This world is all messed up.
Wasn’t this the guy that helped get Trump elected in 2016?
Guess that’s a cue for a Trump victory in 2024.
