  • I simply used an equalizer to increase the bass level and make the sound louder. It makes a noticeable difference in my opinion, and makes it more enjoyable to listen to.

I never had the opportunity to know Tex personally, but everyone I've talked to has said exactly the same thing. He was definitely a "WYSIWYG" (what you see is what you get) kind of guy. RIP, Tex.

True, but he got there as the result of Maj. Miller's tragic loss.
Miller had promised to set Tex up with his own band after the war - one wonders how it would have turned out.

This is fun. Not to be a know-it-all, but this is from an MGM musical short subject - it's not a Soundie . Soundies were single filmed musical numbers, very low-budget, to be played on video jukeboxes known as Panoram machines. You would never see a set or production values as lavish as this in a Soundie. Thanks for posting.

@@bobboscarato1313 Reportedly he was never fully comfortable in his role as director of the postwar Miller band. During the war Glenn had written to Tex that when they got together again 😢😢 he'd give him a couple of years of leadership mentoring, and then set Tex up with a band of his own.
Tex was the front-man for the postwar band but in reality had very little independence; he was an employee of the Miller Estate like all of the other musicians. Tex wanted to break out of Glenn's shadow but the suits at RCA had other ideas. In one much-later interview Tex said he couldn't even choose which songs they'd record - it was all handed down from the band's management.
So it's quite possible that discomfort shows through here.

Peter Farrar:- Tex Beneke is a multi talented musician & an engaging character. However, he decimated the romantic ballad "Somebody Loves Me," with his terrible voice. Somebody may love you Tex, but i dont love your terrible singing. Golden words with a hint of honest criticism, by Peter E. Farrar.
