Hi, the gas mask pouch was also worn on the left instead of the right hip, somehow it looks like the video is shown mirrored left/right... 🤔 ah, the badge on the winter hat is the officer‘s version, simple grunts had only the inner round on the hat, w/o the oak leafs around as GDR native I am impressed how much our stuff is now collected and thus acknowledged by western militaria collectors

Good job presenting an era that is not often covered (GDR). We see a lot of WW1 and WW2 reenactments and presentations on here, but not too often with the GDR stuff. I have a number of original WW1, WW2, along with some East German uniforms, helmets, belts and other gear. Some of the GDR stuff is unissued.

You appear to have most of the kit on the wrong side. Looping around the belt from the right side to left should be Mag pouch, shovel, water bottle, gasmask, bayonet. Tip - have the bayonet frog to the left of the Y-strap so it doesn't want to whack you balls as you run (well, as much - learnt that from some Ex-NVA guys) and try to hook the rear strap so it stops the shovel looping around to the right (as it did on display to me last reenactment)

With that gear it is quite easy to see NVA as successor to Wehrmacht. Uniform has too many similarities to Wehrmach-era uniform in styling and equipment. Beautiful showing of obscure piece of military history.

The demonstration of the "Zeltbahn" wasn't correct in all respects: 1. The folding triangle on the back must be folded inwards to prevent water from accumulating when it rains. 2. There should be a second rope above the rope on your shoulder. This is used to make a hood. 3. The “Zeltbahn” has many other uses: you can fold it up into a sleeping bag, and you can use it with sticks to build a (one-man) tent out of it. Or you can use the buttons to put it together with other "Zeltbahnen" to make larger tents. You can also fold it into a large bag to carry your belongings.
Under the caliber of 7.62 is a curved magazine pouch, not a straight one. direct for 5.45. The bayonet-knife, respectively, is also not for this machine. Change the pouch and the bayonet-knife. Or change the machine to 5.45

it's a shame how difficult it is to source DDR ration packs (K-Portion) for the bread bag, in twenty (ish) years of collecting I've seen one and I've never seen any for sale as far as I know the only pictures even known to exist of them are by one guy on MREinfo.com, Great setup though, the one thing i will say is don't worry baout what's "correct" too much, I've done living history since i was 15 and there's no such thing as a "standard" soldier, even within a unit every man will wear his equipment or uniform slightly differently, the best way to get the rivet counters to shut up is to simply say "I'm portraying the average soldier"

Leftover stahlhelm, splinter fatigues, zeltbahns, MG42s, etc. The camouflage field uniform, and its designs, have more in common with Soviet/Eastern European uniforms than German. The only somewhat WH like aspect is the style suspension system, which has been used for much longer than just WW2. The wool service uniform is traditional Prussian styles.

The camo BDUs were not worn over the wool service uniforms. In some cases, the border troops would wear the BDUs over a grey collared cotton shirt. But for infantry, a knit cotton long John style underwear set was worn. Semi stretchy sleeved or 2/3rd sleeved white undershirt without a collar. Think like a tanktop with sleeves. The under pants were the same sort of deal, white knit long johns .
When I put on the uniform I wear the NVA cotton thermal set then NVA grey socks underneath. Then I put on the BDU pants then boots (you can put them inside the pants and then button them at the bottom so they don’t come up) then depending if you want suspenders on the trousers sling them on (I own them) then I put on the BDU shirt then Duty belt and side cap for non combat look. But as he does in the video everything is almost spot on beside somethings not worn on the right side for the combat ready look.

Most likely a females version of some uniform. More info is needed. What's the color ? What does the size tag say? What features are on it such as leg pockets , visible buttons on the pocket flaps, etc. This would identify it easier.

I suspect the ration packs aren't recognized for what they are, and might be on the market mislabeled as something else.

This is only true for conscript soldiers. Professional soldiers and officers both wore the large badge with leaves.

What you have might be Czechoslovakian too. They used the same camo

They have elastic waists, but are intended for use with suspenders that loop onto D rings in the waistband.
