    Folio did it again!

I'm reading this right now on my Kindle.
Gotta be honest and say that I found the first couple of chapters heavy going and was thinking of abandoning it, as I had no idea what was going on, lots of names and places etc to absorb.
But, I'm pleased that I stuck with it as I'm really enjoying and am intrigued by it! 😉📚

I read it last year and found I needed to take a few notes to get a quick reference to the characters, place names, and terminology. Worth the effort. Nothing like the copious note taking I needed to do for Dune Messiah, though.

@@mediumjohnsilver Thanks. I'm pleased that I've stuck with it. I've found it helpful to look up various terms on the net, "shifgrethor," for one, all while trying to avoid any spoilers! 😉📚

Never read her, but as you make great recommendations for books.....I will seek this book out.

"It's folio society, so you know it's extra fancy pants" - should be the blurb on every folio society book from now on. 😜😂

Recently watched the video by Stripped Cover Lit where they are talking about Vonnegut and say 'there's science fiction elements, but this is real literature'. Don't get me wrong, I love what Adrian does, but I literally started shouting out loud "it's like you've never read Ursula K Leguin! What the hell are you talking about? Don't pretend there's no 'real literature' in SFF
      !"

Yeah, there still is that prejudice against science fiction. I’m glad Library of America started publishing science fiction classics, including Le Guin.

read this over 30 years ago but forgot what it was called. Good book but my favourite Leguin novel is Lathe of Heaven, which is maybe the best time travel novel.

That Folio edition definitely outshines my 50th anniversary paperback edition, which I bought and read last year. The cover is already coming off. I thought the fiftieth was supposed to be the golden anniversary, not the cheap glue anniversary.

I’m sure the 75th anniversary edition will be much better. Maybe.

One of my favorite books too. I have the 25th anniversary hardcover which is solid, but I would really like the Easton Press deluxe illustrated version. I prefer the more ethereal Lemen illustrations to the ones in the Folio, but Folio does make a beautiful product. Man, I’d love to have their Gene Wolfe.

Such an amazing book - we're all mentioning it regularly on our channels! - love this edition, love the video Michael. Totally agree that it is ahead of its time. It was the first Le Guin book I read and I was instantly smitten. Thanks for reading that section of Becky Chambers' introduction, that was fantastic.

I met Ursula when she had a book event at my bookshop. This was around 2008. She was a great soul with lots of fantastic ideas.

It is on my list. Only picked up my first UKlG about a month ago and still need to get round to it.
For better or worse though my expectations are very high. And if a book can impress me with high expectations before hand then it must be good.

I read it when it first came out in mass market paperback and yes, it's superior. I'm ambivalent about Le Guin, though, because of her dismissive brush-off of Philip K Dick when he went to her, in all respect, asking for her insight. Instead she called him crazy and told him to go away. This has always stuck in my craw.

I read this late last year and, although initially getting lost in the politics at the beginning, I kept going and I am so happy I did! I loved it so much I put the Folio on my holiday gift list and by golly I got it!...Great choice...I couldn't agree more - the illustrations are phenomenal! I'm looking forward to reading through it again and getting a better understanding of those few early chapters that lost me a little.

Got this almost 30 years ago (not the fancy pants version), but can’t remember anything (don’t even remember if I read the whole thing), so I was thinking about picking this up again this year (same with Lathe of Heaven). Especially since I’ve been on a vintage sci-fi kick. You’re motivating me to prioritize it 😊

Folio is so hit or miss…I didn’t dig the design of this one. The Book of the New Sun had an amazing release. The Philip k dick books too. I hope Suntup does a release. Those are superior quality.

@@michaelk.vaughan8617 They tend to be nice in person for sure. I don’t own this one but it didn’t really stand out to me. Philip k Dick short stories is one of my absolute favorite folio science fiction releases…can’t recommend that one enough. Even the inside of the slip case and outer pages have designs
