- No matter how I want to preserve tomatoes, the skins usually need to come off. Unless they're dead-ripe, it can be tedious to peel pounds and pounds of tomatoes.

Often, a hot water dip will help loosen the skins. Instead of individually dipping each tomato into hot water, I go a step beyond and do a big batch so I can quicken the process!
- Core the tomatoes, cutting out the stem and the hard core.
- Cut out any blemishes or rotten areas.
- Make an X cut in the bottom of each tomato and fill a deep dish tub or pan with tomatoes.
- When the tub is full, pour in boiling water, covering the tomatoes. After 30 seconds to 1 minute, check the skin. If they peel right off, pour off the hot water, and cover with cold water to stop cooking.
- Remove the skins and prepare as desired. I remove all the seeds and liquid.
At this point, the tomatoes can be frozen in airtight containers or used in canning recipes!

I just wash, X on bottom. Freeze (I freeze separately on pan for a little bit then add to freezer bag). When you need some, pull out of freezer, stick in a bowl with some water (doesn’t even have to be hot - I’ve used room temp water). Skins fall right off and you cut or crush etc or throw right into your soups, chili etc. You can even can them from frozen from what I hear. Research. Easy! What’s easier than wash, X and freeze. I was sooo glad to find this out. Saw it on Red Toolhouse Homestead YT
You should dehydrate the skins and castoffs to make tomato powder.
Thank you! I love this video, I have a tomato plant and sometimes I don't know what to do with them, great tips!
I love watching your videos Kaleb, and I really love your new kitchen. ❤

Love this video! I like the speed of the video and what a charming teacher!
Loved this tutorial. Exactly what I was needing. Thank you so much!
Thank you. I can't eat skin/seeds due to inflammation. I would place a bowl to collect water for reuse - but love your technique instead of an ice bath.
Gosh those are huge lovely tomatoes! 😍 Great video!
Way to go.....Wise guy....love Salsa.....
So helpful! God Bless You!!! ❤️❤️❤️
Hi, I use a melon baller to remove the core out of green tomatoes it works great! I would love to find someone that could sharpen the melon baller to cut through the ripe skins of tomatoes.
Pepper and tomato season is coming! Gonna need to make lots of spaghetti sauce and salsa. Will freeze leftovers (or late ripeners)!
I would taste those tomatoes so badly :) my mouth is watering 😂😂
If you strain the tomato in a sieve it will catch the seeds rather than squeezing them out by hand.
Awesome video, but for many picking up a larger pot of boiling water make not work from a safety standpoint.
Awesome, thanks for the tips. I have a question for you. Do you have a recipe for homemade ketchup?
Yummy....🍅🍅🍅
Salsa and mint mojito recipe, please
City folks that must buy there fruits and vegetables at local grocery stores well find it beneficial using this method on apples, peaches, pears, cucumbers anyting that has the edible wax on it.
