- Pokemon Trading Card Game Pocket has officially been released early in New Zealand for a test period, so I had to give it a try! In this video, I'll be running through the early tutorials, opening packs, and playing against my first real opponent.

This does not include the fact that some pokemon have alternate forms which can change their appearance, stats, and abilities.
But don't worry. Some pokemon are suspiciously similar entirely coincidentally. Like Dugtrio (a mole) and wugtrio (an eel).

It's pretty amusing to me that the game teaches you all about the different progression systems and shops and currencies long before you actually get to the gameplay. Kinda shows where the focus is for these games.
You're pretty much on point honestly. Even the physical Pokémon TCG, at least for me I enjoy collecting more than playing them.
Their marketing are almost zero gameplay and most of them are packs opening. Means they know their market well. I doubt it's a f2p friendly game.

Hey Regis, a few questions, do you feel like the actual card game aspect is taking a backseat to the card opening and art? Additionally what are the changes to the battle mechanisms from base tcg, and do you think they were for the better or the worse? Did they over simplify it?

From watching this I really wonder if it would have been beneficial for them to come up with a completely new game using the cards. I love collecting but this really didn’t seem like that much fun.
It’s a lot more fun Version of the tcg, once you play it you’ll be addicted

I collected Pokemon cards as a kid, but never learned how to play the actual game. I would just make up rules and didn't know what I was doing. You'd think the packs would come with instructions on how to play (maybe they did but I forgot).
I don't think there's any card game where the packs come with instructions. They usually save those for starter decks and such (products with space for manuals and that come with enough cards for you to actually play). Nowadays maybe there are links for where you'd learn to play though?
@@felizpanda that makes sense. I was always getting booster packs from Target and nothing else. Pokémon's the only physical trading cards I've ever gotten into.

Hmmmmm, on one hand, this could be my first "official" Pokémon game, as well as a look at the TCG itself, and it has some jaw-dropping artwork, but on the other hand, it has everything you can hate about mobile gacha card games, including limits on collecting cards and needless currency systems ... hmmmmm.
I’m actually pretty excited about this. Even when I take a break from snap I still watch your videos so I hope this channel picks up for you and you like the game.

And there is very little complexity. So card power means more than anything
I never really got into pokemon and was. Kinda excited to check out a new card game but my game bugged out and didn’t give me enough experience to get to level three and play the game so now I’m waiting for more packs and missions to get enough experience. Was kinda a let down reminded me of Deadpool’s diner new thing can’t play wait longer

Oh wow! A new channel! I’m looking forward to this. Knowing your stuff from Snap, I am on board with this channel too.
20 minutes in and im wondering if they forgot to add a game to their gotcha game. We finally get to the game and it is mind numbingly simple. I used to tease the PkmnTCG people at the card shop that they were playing UnoTCG. Somehow the original TCG looks like chess compared to this 😂
This looks like master duel except that pokemon already is extremely simplistic so a simpler version that doesn’t require you to play energies in your deck makes this feel like there is even less strategy lol. At least master duel is atill yugioh but requires different deck building skills. This is going to just be more whoever gets the better basic Pokémon out first with the biggest hits, which isn’t entirely different from the normal tcg lol 1 prize basics with busted attacks/abilites make or break most decks.
I still am going to play it though since I love pokemon.
I saw you confused a lot about turn order so to explain it better basically "First Turn" and other turns go off of the turns you are playing. The Pokemon staging at the start of the game isnt considered a turn but just setup. So you setup pokemon, then go into turn 1, and during that turn 1 Pokemon cant evolve.
Theres also some rules like if you are Turn 1 of the whole game you cant attach energy or attack.
Won't be playable in belgium because opening pokemon packs resembles gambling. But actual gambling is perfectly fine.
Fun fact! That Vulpix art is by Aoki Toshinao, who made children's picture books of Pokemon for Japanese audiences in the 1990s. I believe the art for the card may be from one of those books, but I don't know that for sure. I have a few of them. The art definitely does look a bit weird on a card.
Watching this, makes me think that this feels so similar to the game Dice Masters. There's cards with attack and defence, energy cost, power stats and abilities etc. Such an epic game Dice Masters :) If you ever get chance Regis, check a tutorial of it out, the tutorial is fairly lengthy but if you like superheroes, villains, warhammer, d&d etc etc it's the game to play
It’s essentially Pokémon trading card game on mobile. I stopped playing PTCG when I started playing snap a loooot more. Both are super fun games though! When you get crazy cards it gets super fun
So... The whole name would be Pocket Monster Trading Card Game Pocket... They need to work on their naming skills.
I've played both the Pokémon video games and the card game. Because I've played the video games, I was disappointed in the card game. This is for a number of reasons, but the one thing that is nice is the card art. This might be a way where I can get the cards to look at the art, but not have to spend a lot of money. I just have to log in daily.

I didnt finish the vid yet so i don't know if you did this already, but add your Arcanine ex into the Rapidash deck! it came with Growlithe, Arcanine's basic.
Be sure to take advantage of moltros, as if you're lucky, he can cheat out a lot of energy early. Be careful of the ex rule, where when ex Pokemon are defeated, the opponent gets 2 points!

I'm really stoked to play this! Just sucks that they basically released an early access version a month before the actual release for players that go through the hustle of "cheating" the system outside of NZ. And for native New Zealanders of course.
