      Mary Wickes and Thelma Ritter - two great 'scene stealers' did an Alfred Hitchcock Presents together called The Baby Sitter. Delish.

      The DRUNK telling Joyce “ aren’t you sick of making a fool of yourself Joyce?” Anything to get the camera on her. She makes a fool of herself every show. And never shuts that diahrea mouth of hers!, they should of cut her off the booze 🥃.

    One of the most interesting, entertaining, funniest game shows ever and the whole thing is held together with tape and baling wire. The question selector board messes up every other week, the microphone goes out about as often, and the floorboards are loose. Ah, the golden years of television!

    H/H match update and preview of the week ahead:
    ...
    We're up to week 211 of our favorite classic game show (the show ends with week 291 and episode number 1455). These episodes were taped on July 26, 1977, and originally aired in mid-September of 1977.
    Our three stalwart regulars are all in their places with bright, shiny faces, and joining them this week are two familiar Match Game panelists along with one "new kid on the block":
    ~~~Semi-regular Joyce Bulifant returns for her 30th week of 38. Joyce is situated near the top of the leader board, with her three wins in four attempts (75%). I'd love to see her stats get fleshed out a little more, so I'm hoping she gets called on this week!)
    ~~~Mary Wickes is back for her 9th week (of 14 total). Mary last entertained us in episodes 996-1000, and she's never played a head-to-head question. (I'd love to see her get a shot this week too!)
    ~~~Last but not least, Gary Crosby becomes the latest in a long string of one-week-only Match Game panelists, and he starts off with not one, but two kisses for being the "new kid on the block". (I hope he can add as much to the panel as Minnie Pearl did last week!)
    Well, King Richard answered all six H/H questions again last week (but only scored a single match for a contestant). Reviewing the past 65 weeks, Richard has played 279 times. Everyone else combined played 47 times. (Charles had 16 opportunities, Brett 12, Fannie 9, Betty 3, Lynn Deerfield 1, Gary Burghoff 1, Rosemary Forsyth 1, Nipsey Russell 1, Meg Bennett 1, Scoey Mitchell 1, and Trish Stewart 1.) Percentage-wise, Richard has answered an astounding *85.6%* of all the H/H questions over these past 65 weeks.
    Richard goes into the week with an accuracy score of 41.6%, which is rather good (matching in the H/H is harder than it looks), but his track record hardly justifies being chosen over 85% of the time. After all, Brett has matched 42.9% of her 70 H/H questions. That may not be a huge gap, but her score *is* better than Richard's by a comfortable margin, so why is Richard called on ten times as often as Brett? And then there's Charles at 47.8%, Fannie at 48.3%, Betty at 50.0%...
    I guess what I'm wondering is why 41.6% is perceived as so far superior to 47.8%, 48.3%, 50.0%?
    Some would argue that Richard gets chosen for the H/H more because he gives such good suggestions for the audience match. But that's not really the case, either: Episodes 901, 902, 906, 911, 914, 921, 923, 927, 949, 975, 977, 978, 980, and 981 are all recent examples of times Richard was called on to give the very first suggestion, but his answer wasn't even on the board.
    Whatever the reason, I don't mind seeing Richard play the H/H, but I find it more interesting and exciting to see a variety of stars have a shot at it, and since most everyone else has actually done a better job of matching in the past, I don't see why they shouldn't be chosen a little more.
    All right, time to enjoy another _________ week of Match Game '77!
    ~~~Today's action:
    Our champion receives some "Garbage" from Joyce Bulifant, meaning she wins her second game in a 6 to 5 tie-breaker!
    *Today's audience match question: "Rosey________"*
    (My thoughts: Grier*, The Riveter, ???) - *Rosey Grier is a MG alum - episodes 191-195.
    The celebs: Richard (Grier), Charles (O'Grady), Gary (Clooney)
    The choice: Grier
    The answers: Posey, O'Grady, Grier
    Our champion picked Richard last time, but they didn't match...
    She chooses him again. This is now King Richard's 15th consecutive time answering the head-to-head question. He's matched five of those times so far.
    Stats: Richard has matched 92 of his 220 most recent attempts (41.8%), 75 of his last 177 attempts (42.4%), 31 of his last 80 attempts (38.8%), and 12 of his last 37 attempts (32.4%). His overall success rate is *41.6%* and this is his 698th attempt so far.
    For the sake of comparison: Joyce has matched 3 of her 4 attempts (75%), Charles has matched 33 of his 69 attempts (47.8%), Brett has matched 30 of her 70 attempts (42.9%), and Richard has matched 290 of his 697 attempts (41.6%). Mary Wickes and Gary Crosby haven't answered any H/H questions yet.
    *Today's H/H question: "Paste________"*
    (When I first heard the question, I thought Gene said "Haste blank" and I thought it would be an easy win with "Haste makes waste." But now that I realize it's "Paste," I can't think of anything at all! To avoid passing, I'll just say "paste on.")
    The contestant is pensive. Richard hasn't started writing yet; he's still pondering as well. Something comes to him, it looks like about 4 or 5 letters, but he's not convinced. He looks to Fannie for inspiration or confirmation before shaking his head and filing his card.
    Our champion stalls for a moment. (I don't blame her. It's a hard one today.) "I can't think of anything," she says. (I don't blame her, neither could I.) She draws a blank, and like me, to avoid passing, says something: "Stand."
    I'm genuinely curious to see what our most frequent H/H answer-man will say!
    "Board." Hmm. Not bad. Gene suggests paste "wax," but I've never heard of that.
    No H/H match today.
    ~~~Finally, here's our updated leader board showing the 11 celebs with at least 3 H/H matches, ranked by accuracy:
    (Note: An asterisk before a celebrity's name signifies that she has "retired" from the show and her H/H stats are now complete.)
    (Note: For tied scores, I consider the one with the greater number of matches to be higher; if the matches are equal, the celeb who first achieved that score goes on top.)
    Orson Bean - 100% (4 wins in 4 attempts).
    TIE: (*)Jo Anne Worley - 75% (3 wins in 4 attempts).
    TIE: Joyce Bulifant - 75% (3 wins in 4 attempts).
    Gary Burghoff - 71.4% (5 wins in 7 attempts).
    Betty - 50.0% (19 wins in 38 attempts).
    Fannie - 48.3% (14 wins in 29 attempts).
    Charles - 47.8% (33 wins in 69 attempts).
    Jo Ann Pflug - 44.4% (8 wins in 18 attempts).
    Brett - 42.9% (30 wins in 70 attempts).
    Richard - 41.5% (290 wins in 698 attempts).
    Bert Convy - 33.3% (5 wins in 15 attempts).
    *These stats include every head-to-head match from episode 1 through 1051, excluding the missing/damaged/unavailable episodes: 31, 32, 33, 311, 312, 313, 324, 325, 645, 910, 1024, 1025, 1026, 1027, 1028, 1029, and 1030. *Also, note that episode 849 was never produced. (These stats do, however, include the H/H results of missing episode 968 as those results were revealed in episode 969. Note: There was no H/H in missing episode 1035, as we learn in 1036.)
      That's not helmet hair. It is neither as big or hard as a football or motorcycle helmet, nor does it look like it's been squashed because his head was inside a helmet. I don't know what it is with people, going about calling ''helmet hair!" like 21st-century kids yelling, "Cooties!", but for the love of Mike, learn what the term means first.
