    I am 77 years young. I purchased my new 67 435 coupe in Atlanta,Ga. The sticker price was $5537.05. Your price was the base price before the options which was $4214.00 The options were $1031.05: 427/435 $437.10, 4 speed $184.35, tinted glass $15.80, white wall tires $31.35, AM FM Radio $172.75, Transistor Ignition $73.75, Off Road Exh. $36.90, Positraction $42.15…….Also there was federal exc tax $222.00, federal tax on options $45.00, Doc fee 25.00. I raced this Vette at the strip in Albany Ga., Phoenix City, Alabama and Houston County Dragway and was running very close to the B/Sport National Record of 11.35 seconds. It was the only car I had for my wife, little girl 2 years old, and my self. I did the following things: a set of JARDINE HEDDERS, Scattershield(Lakewood), Hurst shifter, M&H 9 inch slicks,and went from the factory 4:11 gears to a 4:56 ring & pinion. I also put progressive linkage on the 3 Holley 2 bbl. Carbs. I drove to the tracks (no trailer) with slicks behind the seats in the coupe. I jacked up the 67, put the slicks on, uncapped the hedders, and I was ready to race. My first run down the 1/4 mile in Houston County the Vette ran 11.62 seconds at 121 MPH. I wished I had that coupe back…but now I have two 1967 big block convertibles………Charles

      Charles, what an awesome story, thanks so much for sharing the memories👍. I think many of the original buyers used these "Alpha" 427 Corvettes as intended, either to unleash them on the streets or drag strip. What surprises me is the young age of the original buyers.
      This cars first owner was 24 when he purchased it, and from what he told me was given an extremely good deal from the small farming town Chevy dealership he ordered it through because he paid in cash.
      Over the years the original dealer order paperwork was misplaced, so I'm not able to see what they actually invoiced him for the car other than what was listed on the original county tax receipt when it was first registered.
      I'm happy to have the level of documentation I do for the car, but of course the stories and memories like yours and others are the best. The part I loved the most was how he used it as a daily driver for so long, traveling 75-80 miles per day and spending the weekends tinkering on the mechanicals.
      Hopefully you still get the time to drive your convertibles on a regular basis. Maybe I'll catch you on the road someday👍.

    The Greatest Vette ever made was not suppose to be . In 1967 GM could not get the C3 ready for production in time due to problems with Body panel fitment and airflow to the Radiator. This was fixed with a open lower valance panel and a Air Dam to stop overheating. Ironically the 1967 was the most Iconic model with it's Stinger Hood and one year only side fender vents.

    About a year ago I woke up with a bug bite. The Corvette bug stung me in my sleep. Before long, I was on the hunt: reading, watching, asking questions, looking at everything.
    So much to know. What's authentic, correct, original, desirable. And, what isn't. From lipstick on a pig, to a recent Top Flight Award, rusted out frames and restomods. And everything in between. I test drove a 1954 (!) and didn't know whether to laugh or cry. Felt the rush of a 427 Tri-Power. Scratched my head over the first Fuelie. Made a couple of choices: 1967 4-spd 327/300 convertible Top Flight, and a meticulous frame-off restoration on a 1968 4-sd. 427/390 T-Top. Sunday drivers to be sure, but they give me an excuse to not mow the lawn. The wife is furious at me for spending the kid's inheritance. She's probably right.

      Now that, my friend is an excellent story. It just shows the Corvette bug can bite hard anywhere, anytime. I know what you mean about the early cars, they looks incredible but drive like a horse drawn wagon. The 427's will always leave you with that big stupid goofy grin on your face, but aren't as practical for casual cruising. The SB's are a great compromise of looks and power. Sounds like you made a couple of excellent choices that'll provide many hours of driving enjoyment. Who cares about inheritance when the government wants to take all of anyway😁? Thanks for sharing👍.

    You can never go wrong with a short rear deck and long, lean front end on a sports car. That body style is most attractive.

      Definitely a timeless design. I think that's why similar cars, like the 1st generation Toronados with that same short rear deck and long front end still attract so much attention.

    ❤️ the 67’s!!!! I just purchased a 67 L79 Coupe (fully documented) with the Sunfire Yellow color. It runs great, and I love the sound of the factory side exhaust. I get a lot of thumbs up whenever I drive it.

    My first ever Corvette ride was as a new 14 year-old, when I was invited to take a quick spin in a gorgeous '67 big block air-conditioned Marlboro Maroon coupe that belonged to a young Sailor who worked for my stepdad. We left Little Creek Amphibious Base (Virginia Beach) and turned onto Shore Drive, at which time he promptly nailed it hard. My head was pinned to the headrest and my ears literally popped from all that torque! It had to be experienced to be truly appreciated. I was immediately hooked. I owned my first Vette, a '58 convertible, at age 17, and while still a senior in high school. It had lived a hard life, so my stepdad and I ended up restoring it together and replacing the 283 with a 327 engine, which we built. It was a thrill to drive, a chick magnet, and I never should've sold it. But I did so to upgrade to the '64 C2 (327/300 4-speed) coupe that still sits in my garage to this day, some 50 years later. Talk about a love affair! I have never been able to bring myself to part with that car, which I love dearly and still drive quite often. I have also owned a 50th anniversary (2003) ZO6, which was an awesome and very fast car. I sold it with barely 16K miles on the clock because I was simply dangerous on the road in it, even as an old codger. The power was purely intoxicating, and I couldn't keep my foot out of it, so I parted with it before I either went to jail or hurt myself (and others) with it. I'm 71 now, and vow that I will have one more Vette before the big dirt nap, hopefully, a C8. Corvettes (and guitars) are a lifelong affliction that you're never really over!

      Bill, thanks for sharing. Sounds like you've had some great life experiences with your Corvettes. What people miss sometimes is the stories and memories that go along with the cars, and being able to share them with friends and families. Like you I'm also a big fan of guitars and live music. Even though I can't play worth a darn, I can listen to my son since he picked up the music skills I don't possess. Nice talking with you👍.

      Hey Kelvin, I am definitely happy I'm fortunate enough to be the caretaker of this car. The 427's are one of the coolest engines from that era and it always brings a smile to my face when I walk in the garage. The C5's are great cars and excellent daily drivers that make great road cars.

    I love your 67, I've been a vette lover since middle school .My first vette was a 64 coupe , which I was able to buy for $1800.00 while working in my dad's body shop. This was in 1966,there was only two vettes in my home town. After graduation in 69 , Uncle Sam said he needed me for a couple of year, that was a learning experience . After coming home from service and getting married I've been fortunate enough to own another 64 , two 66 and two 67's . I really love the C3 vettes . I enjoy your videos , thanks again from Fla.

    Give keen Corvette a call they have original parts for corvettes and I have a C3 Corvette that my grandpa got me when I was 16 year old and I am the original owner of the car and I am also related to Louie Chevrolet and that is what he wanted back when he was making Chevrolet

      possibly in some circles depending on what a collectors preferences are, but the 67 427/435 HP tripower cars are the unicorns in the collectors world due to being the last of the midyears and low production numbers. Thanks for the comments👍

    Near the end of 67 production, Chevy realized that they had more stinger hoods than 427 orders. They made them available on small blocks to get them out the door. One documented stinger hood small block recently sold at Barrett Jackson.

      It is actually it's well documented that a large bolt dropped into the small block hood mold, so for the few weeks while it was being repaired the factory put big block hoods on small block cars. Note, as I understand it, they didn't paint the stingers on them. My brother has owned Corvette Clinic, a Corvette only parts store in San Jose Ca since the early 80's. Sometime during the 80's & 90's he had at least two customers with BB-hoods on their all origianal cars and he helped them order or buy used small block cars so they could be original! When he found out the story later of how some original small block cars went out the factory with BB hoods he felt bad about not knowing of GM's subsitute hood cars. He thought he was helping them go back to origianal! Since He found out about the substitute hood incident in about the mid 1990's he have tryed unsuccessfully to find out what serial number range this took place in effort to inform customers at least know if they might have one of these BB hood small block cars but no luck so far. However a tel-tail sign is that the small block mid-year cars with either hood had a right side mounted hood stay, with no signs for a left side hood stay as the 66 and later big blocks had their hood stay mounted on the left side. if my memory serves me these BB hoods had factory nuts molded in the right side.

      Interesting writeup with good information, thanks for sharing. This is one of those interesting workarounds that would have been very believable to avoid an assembly line work stoppage.
      Sad thing is, without any documentation aside from anecdotal stories like yours, there will never be a consensus in the NCRS community on whether it actually happened or not. And yet, restoration motors are more acceptable than SB's with BB hoods😁.

      The damaged mold story is true, the part about the BB hoods being available on the small block is not true. The use of the hood on the small block was up to to Chevrolet and nothing a buyer could do to get a factory BB hood on his small block.

      @@thud9797 I never said the buyer had a choice. I'm guessiong GM installed them on several cars to keep from having probably a few hundred cars wo hoods stored outside the plant unable to ship.

    My uncle has one of these that’s been sitting in his shop for years! It’s a 427 435 hp car, black with black interior and has a blue stinger stipe. It’s been in pieces for about 20 years now but he makes sure it’s not getting dusty or anything like what you’d see as a “barn find”. I’m waiting for the day I can hand him si money for it because the C2 coupes are my absolute all time dream Corvette!!! Love the video and just really love you 67! It just gorgeous!!!

    Is the dash cluster unit numbered to the build date for a 1967 Corvette?

      Gene, in a way yes it is. Normally GM will assign individual or multiple part numbers for components that were installed on a particular year car, or range of year cars based on engineering changes occurring during the production year. Sometimes you will also find a date code on the part number label, which can help identify when in the cycle/year it was installed on. Of course the date would need to proceed the build date of the car by a not too wide margin. In this case of this cluster with the worn off tag the identifying feature would be the 6500 RPM redline along with the 80 PSI oil pressure gauge. Let me know if you need any further information.

      @@VetteSource Hi, thanks so much for the reply. Someone I know has a set of NOS gauges that he want to sell me and I am trying to decide if it would be cheaper to have my originals restored. I don't have a source to let me know how much it would cost to restore the gauges. I have a 67 L-79 Corvette convertible mostly all original with 57,000 original miles. It is Marina Blue with Bright Blue Vinyl interior. Do you know of a reputable restorer I could call to get an idea of the cost of restoration.

      Gene, there are quite a few independent shops around the country that specialize in early Corvette garage restoration. I would recommend googling "Corvette gauge restoration", and quite a few results will come up from different parts of the country.
      You may also want to take a closer look at the NOS gauges. Those are worth their weight in gold, and can always be used as backups if you decide to have your originals restored. That was the primary reason I purchased the extra gauge cluster I detailed in the video.

      If memory serves me correct, the gauges from 65-67 are all the same font and color design. The only difference is the tach redline and oil pressure gauge if you were running a big block.

    Love you vette. Really like the color too. I have a 67 Red coupe and it has a 327-350. Not as hot but I love this engine. I'd like to keep in touch. I've got questions I'd like to ask you; with your years of experience. This is my first Corvette and I'm 72. I've always wanted this year bc it was the year I graduated from HS. Yeah, I'm an old fogie. I just rebuilt the disc brakes and EBrake and replaced the carb. Getting ready to install a power brake booster and also the leaf spring. Converting it to fiberglass; hoping it will smooth the ride a bit. It has side pipes and my wife says they're too loud. Can't carry on a conversation. lol We've had a lot of fun with this baby and expect many more years out of it. Can't wait til this Indiana weather clears up. We drive it even to get ice cream in the summer. Take care and be safe.

    Always has been my favorite. Remember seeing a 65 327 car in the mid 80’s selling for 16grand. Times have changed. I have a 96 now.

      Yep, the midyears are a timeless automotive design. I think that's a direct reflection of the current pricing, as there is a high desirability factor with this generation. Funny thing is the late C4's are some of the best built Corvettes out there, but they continue to lag behind other generations in value, which is fine for me since I like them as well.       I would agree. However I don't think they are ever going to reach the levels of the older pre 1970's cars due to the complexity of construction and the computer systems necessary to make them run.

      Exactly. As soon as the C5 came out with the CAN BUS multi way computer wiring and modules, they kind of ruined them for future high $$$ collectibility due to the difficulty in sourcing replacement electronics. I am seeing it now with the EBCM, BCM, and PCM's on the C5's.

      Definitely, it's like they managed to take all the great features of the earlier years and distill them into the final "extra" C2 that was supposed to be a C3 until they ran behind schedule.

    I like the color combination with this white stripe. NIce. But what is with your paint? First, I thought, your C2 is wt and there are a lot of rain drops on it. But during the video I noticed some mor spots, where drops wont be.
    Good to see the details. I'm wondering, why the C2 was only bulit a hand full of years. It had the shortest run of all Corvettes.

      The "spots" you see is the original laquer paint flaking off in random areas. Over the years as it's aged, the paint has shrunk causing those cracks and flaking. It's a common issue with the older paints, and since the car is in such good shape, I just live with it.
      It is a curious thing about the short production run of the C2's. My guess is that technology and design were changing so quickly during this time period, a manufacturer was considered behind the curve if they didn't have new designs every few years. If you look at cars from this period, they all had multiple design changes almost every year.

    '67 always been my second fav to '66 - '66 seems the pinnacle of C2's with the '67 starting the transition to the C3. '66 also has options like knock off wheels, teak steering wheel and the mossport green color that sealed it for me

      Yep, the 66 has some really cool options that make it pop, and the teardrop BB hood is very distinctive. Personally, I've always liked the fender louvers and the stinger hood of the 67, so that's what tipped the scales for me. Thanks for the comments👍

    The reason the 67 is Soo pretty ,They got rid of everything that body did Not need on it .63_64 was a revelation when came out .But , that Chrome Junk on it ! 65_66 nice .but 67 even cleaner and Functional ! Well ,o.k. that hood scoop a little kid stuff .But looks right on body , .O.K. Vettes are. Subjective ,like good art .

      Barry, your close but disc brakes were first offered in 1965. You could actually get a $$ credit on the MSRP if you elected to equip the car with drums instead of disc brakes which very few people did for obvious reasons. Thanks for watching.

      Yep, another extra cost option on 60's cars that everyone takes for granted now. When I point out many cars had manual steering and brakes, some of the younger adults are in disbelief at how you would even drive a car without them😁

      For my outdoor cars, I just use a Budge Light. They are very inexpensive and work well to keep the sun and elements off the car for about 6 months, then I just replace when they are worn out. I can't remember the brand I have on the indoor cars since it's been so long that I've had to buy one. I would recommend a good breathable cover that has a good dirt barrier and will keep the moisture off the car.

      Yep, that's about 30 minutes from me. The worst part is the electric generation companies were completely unprepared for this even though they had advance warning.
      They usually take some of plants offline in the winter to do repairs caused by the load in the summer, and quickly realized they couldn't meet the demand for this storm.
      Now people have been sitting in their houses with no power while the temperature is in the single digits outside. As an added bonus, many people have broken water pipes, no water supply, or contaminated low pressure water. People aren't happy, but hey at least it'll be almost 50 degrees on Friday😁
      Some heads are definitely going to roll.over this one.

    To me, the '66 is the pinnacle in looks for the C2. In '67 they took away a lot of things that made the C2 look good. I prefer the blister BB hood over the stinger and the '66 side vents over the '67 side vents.

    I had to click on your video when I saw the 67. I've owned one for 36 years now in the same color with bright blue leather interior.
    She's a 427/400 - 4 speed conv. (white top)
    Watching the video makes me want to get her out in the wind and listen to those side pipes sing !

    Hey was looking at buying a 66 427 all original the engine was rebuilt/restamped so numbers aren’t completely matching 80k miles guy asking 84k. What do u think price . It’s in great condition

      Hey Chris, unless it is a 425/450 HP, documented Big Block with history, or something other special to the car that is a pretty strong number for the ask, especially with the numbers missing from the engine pad. Truth is that kind of stuff happened all the time and original engines rarely survived so its not that uncommon. However, it's a 66, so the valuation numbers are a bit lower than the comparably equipped 67's due to the popularity of the 67 design. Based on your basic description without seeing the car or knowing exact details, I would put it north of 50k, and south of 70K in a private party sale.

      Yep, C3 big blocks are kind of like driving a pizza oven around, especially in the summer. However, if you make sure the cooling system is operating correctly, they will run well even in the 100 degree heat here on South Texas. Curious enough, the fiber optic was installed all the way through 1971. The system in my 69 427 car even still operates correctly, but the wiper door doesnt😁

      Keith, you are correct. The C2's have definitely maintained and even exceeded any rational valuations for many years now, and because of that it's very uncommon to see them in the wild since they are so prized among collectors. I have a slightly different mindset with this one, since I think it would be a travesty to hide it away and not share such an awesome piece of machinery with fellow enthusiasts. They're cars and were meant to driven after all. Thanks for the comments

    Why do you think they put a non functional hood scoop that is painted black to make it look like its open. The 1966 427 had a power bulge with strips on the side that could be unbolted removed and then became fully functional.

      The early cars seemed to have trouble with water intrusion into the engine specifically around the carburetor/distributor area so this may have been the answer to keep from inadvertently destroying the engines with rain water. By making it a "mock" fresh air intake they could avoid warranty repairs brought in by angry customers. Thanks for the comments👍.

      Greg, thanks for the comments👍. I agree, between the two body styles the coupes roofline is the distinctive feature that sets it apart from the convertibles. Funny thing is convertibles were priced cheaper than coupes by the manufacturers back when they were new, but are now the more valuable of the two.
      This particular car is Marina Blue with the contrasting white hood stinger and white/blue interior. Interestingly enough the Corvette was offered in three different shades of blue that year, Elkhart, Lyndale, and Marina.
      I'm looking forward to getting the old boy back on the open road. The radio doesn't work, but who needs that when you have the sound of that big block coming out of the sidepipes😄.

    Love the car, wish it were mine, appreciate the info. But a 1967 427 Tri-Power Corvette is the opposite of a "commodity". Commodities are ubiquitous and interchangeable. C2 Corvettes are about as unique as cars get, and this car is a unicorn among C2s. I am triggered. I am sorry.

      Michael, no need for an apology, you made an excellent point. When I referred to it as a commodity I was speaking simply in the context of a hard asset class that gets traded back and forth among investors and speculators simply because of its unicorn status like you mentioned and the fact that it's a timeless automotive design that has only gotten better looking as the years pass.       Yep, and the zinc hromate sprayed all over the birdcage helps keep them pretty well preserved unless they are left in a salty or wet environment.

      For sure, even with the primitive drum brakes and added complexity of the mechanical fuel injection they 63 runs a close second for me in comparison to the 67 BB's. I would have one if I could afford it😁.

    It would have been better with a turbo charged 6 cylinder. NOT!! Awesome car! How an American sports car should be. That's so true what you said about the down side of the high values of these cars. So many guys just don't get that. Other than the intake manifold and carbs, was the 427/435 L71 the same as the 427/425 L72? Can't wait to see some driving vids.

      Jordan, thanks for the comments👍. You are correct, the L72 was first offered in the 1967 Corvwtte, and is identical to the L71 with the exception of the carbs.
      It was initially rated at 450 HP, then dropped to 425 HP for insurance purposes. In 1968 and 1969 it was offered in the Chevrolet and Camaros via the COPO ordering process, of which very few were built.

      You know that's something that gets debated quite often. It would be great to see it with a brand new fresh paint job, but then you lose some of the historical original perspective of the original paint and how it was done at the factory. For my purposes since I want to start cruising the back roads of Texas with the car, I will most likely leave it alone because it runs too good to tear it down for a nice paint job.       The trailer queens, or "static" display cars are super cool for the younger people to look at that weren't lucky enough to be around when these beasts were new, but after awhile it's like looking at animals in the zoo and you start feeling sorry for them. Since I love driving my cars, I will be featuring this one much more going forward once I finish bringing it out of hibernation. There are 1000's of miles of back roads in Texas, and I plan to do some heavy duty exploring and bring you guys along for the ride. Stay tuned👍

    As good as the C3 Corvettes were (well the early ones with chrome bumpers/ chrome grille vents) , the things weight might look light, but they weight near on 4000lb, so it would be like driving a C2 with an extra person and a half in it if you raced one

      Yep, the later C3's definitely were gaining extra weight to go along with those hips. The early C3's like you mentioned still run around 33-3400 lbs, so they're not that bad as far as performance and driveabikity, although that big block up front does make steering interesting if you have manual steering😁.

      It sure does. That's probably why some many of the stinger hoods have been retrofitted to the earlier and SB cars.
