    1000000000000000% when the people who designed these blocks were experimenting with designs they used a razor blade and had the eureka moment for the jetplate flow solution.

    Yup I have the same CPU block and it tarnishes and rusts very easily. Pain in the ass to pull my whole system apart just to clean this one part when everything else is flawless. I luckily have a EK Copper block laying around that I will be swapping for my Nickel one. Nickel looks nice until it doesn't. Not worth the hassle if you ask me.

      I think it can't be rust as there is no iron in the loop. However brass fittings might be the culprit here. After this cleaning my friend got the same thing again after few month of use and the only thing that wasnt copper in the loop are brass fittings.

    Started to clean mine, but soapy water doesn't seem to do much. Going to pick up some garlic chili sauce from the store later as that seems to be the trick. EK says not to use any acidic cleaners for nickel, but seems like it worked fine with yours!

    • @DIYTech21
      @DIYTech21  7 лет назад

      Yup soapy water isnt use full to clean the block. But i recommend it as a must after cleaning with chili garlic sauce to remove all the acidic and nasty chili garlic sauce.
      Good luck and thanks for watching :)

    Yeah...Don't know the science behind it but EK's website specifically not to use chemicals on nickel plated blocks. Not sure if this would introduce problems later on but doesn't seem like a smart thing to do.

      DIY Tech They say to only use warm soapy distilled water followed by a non-abrasive automotive polish creme followed by thorough rincing on their guide for cleaning nickel plated blocks. Apparently using vinegar or acidic chemicals eats away at the nickel plating. I wouldn't be surprised if you took this same block apart and noticed this problem again or signs of it returning.

I found this video useful, so I have 2 blocks in going to go do this to today.. This happened in my loop and I was only using distilled water and biocide. Saw a good video about corrosion on singularity Computer's channel. So between these 2 videos I figured out what was wrong and how to fix it. Thank you.

    what thermal paste have you used? Also what about a solution of water, white vinegar, and salt? I always cleaned my blocks with that and for copper at least works great

    • @DIYTech21
      @DIYTech21  6 лет назад +1

      It was Artic silver 5.
      Water, white vinegar, and salt works for very mild corrosion and is slow as well. I tried @ 1:35 that is water, white vinegar, and salt solution.
      For copper this combinations works too but again if your corrosion layer is very very thin or if you are using strong solution. ( less dilute vinegar solution )

    I just had a near disastrous leak on my EK waterblock on my Maxwell Titan-X GPU and when I got around to taking it apart I found that one of the screws attaching the plastic casting to the nickel plated part was missing and another was loose. I''ve never dismantled it before so I can only assume they must have vibrated loose. Has anyone had this happen before ?

    • @DIYTech21

      I think the user didnt have distilled water. However the corrosion can depend on tubing and connectors as well so fluid might not be the only culprit
