Rediscovered this tune and loving it even more than I did in my youth. This song, like so many other Roxy Music compositions are musically speaking, perfect and the lyrics are brilliant and so so sentimental.
I binge-listen to maybe 2 songs a year. In late 2022, this musta been half my playlist. Just magical as you say, and a great entry into the rest of Roxy.
Also seeing people right up against the stage at a big name act instead of with a row of security and an aisle separating them. Usually only see that at the smaller concerts I've been to.
Adore Bryan Ferry and all of the original Roxy Music players. It’s a tribute to Ferry that he has always retained excellent musicians; the first gig I saw him do was with Chris Spedding in 1975, three rows dead Centre from the front of the stage. Sublime gig. He’s a gentleman through and through. I’ve never been disappointed by a Roxy gig. May Mr Ferry continue to keep well and keep performing. As for these tracks, they’re two of my favourites. Beautiful recording!
A lot of people don't get roxy music they think it's all Bryan in his tuxedo and the smooth Avalon kind of stuff but it's not it really is a it of everything that's what makes them the band they are there's a definite rock edge Ie the great Paul Thompson a true rock drummer Phil Manzanera doing his rock thing David gill our stuff , mr rock n roll motorbikin Chris Spedding , Andy Makay with his 50s feel rock no roll sax , and then there's Mr Ferry on one hand the old fashioned crooner these foolish things etc , on the other hand the soul and blues boy fingerpoppin style , and then the rock star See the first two albums etc plus others it's really varied that's what makes them so good
I saw Roxy Music twice in my life, once in 1976 in Defiance Ohio and in 2002 at Pine Knob (DTE music theater) in Clarkston, Mi. Both shows were mind-blowing events; That original band is so good!!
All the greatest musicians want to play for Ferry and you can tell why he's the greatest rock composer in history , the Beatles were good but this guy is just superb.
D.r Manhattan I love Ferry and Roxy more than the Beatles, but honestly, Bryan is somewhat limited musically. That's actually part of what makes him great, though. He's arty, dark, romantic, classic, post-modern, and proto-punk all at once. It's his vision that's compelling; if you break the songs down, a lot of them are startlingly simple and similar.
You're right. I feel that in the future Roxy Music will become accepted as one of the greasted bands ever, maybe even greater than the "Beatles." I like the Beatles, but I cannot remember the last time I listened to them.? Viva Roxy.
Greatest, perhaps? but I agree with the sentiments fully even if I have problems with the commenter's typing skills. seeing/hearing Mr. Ferry perform Mother of Pearl in Berlin was one of the most most magical nights of my life.
I say as musical composer... Roxy music by mean as Bryan Ferry they are absolutely the best, just more various as componiments, sentimental mood, fansy, full musical sound.. Except some awesome composition, Beatle did only short poor song... For the Roxy music represent an univers ("Tara" at first.. "As strong is your love?"... and even for the full musical first their style..). I say it whatever i come from beat style (i'm between major composer in melodic and for beat). Can't be any parallel between Roxy concert against a Beatles concert... it is as for a ocean and a lake !
Im a fan of Roxy Music but greater than the Beatles? I beg to differ . The Beatles will always be the greatest . Roxy will perhaps be one of the greats at most
From the best album from a musicality perspective ’STRANDED’ the sound they produced was really down the introduction of teenage prodigy Eddie Jobson by a country mile the best musician to ever pass through the Roxy Music ranks.
This is like a painting with the musicians using there instruments to evoke a melody and Mr Ferry adds the lyrics as we journey into musical brilliance 🎼🎼🎼🎼🎼🎼🎶🎶🎶 Art and music in perfect symmetry
So, this is slightly mislabelled - this is recorded on the Roxy Music 2001 World (reunion) Tour. I was lucky enough to see the Wembley show - (one of my best gigs ever) - the rhythm section complemented below is TGPT (one of the most underrated drummers in the world) and Zev Katz on Bass. You also had Roxy originals Phil Manzanera and, of course, Andy Mackay. I also think that this is some of Chris Spedding's best work. A vastly overused word, but this is an awesome line-up of one of the most influential bands ever . - VIVA
I remember reading that the punk bands hated all the bands that came before them except for Roxy Music, and just knowing Avalon, that made no sense to me. After hearing the first two albums, it makes all the sense in the world.
To my mind this is their magnum opus....yes it has everything going for it, but to my mind Zev's bass line & Paul Thompson's drumming simply lays it ALL down for a flawless foundation.
and by the way...ROXY started 40 years ago.and we hear it again and again.....which band from today we will here in 40 years?coldplay.xD...not really,i am sure,,,,,,VIVA ROXY
I think it's so funny and wonderful I love this song so much. It's not my style of music but there's something different about this song.. the lyrics seems so honest ..it give me chills all the time
does it get any better?...no!!!don.t like there music from the 80s (wos also ok)but what they do in the 70s wos so good..so proggesiv..so much style and ...so new..so mindblowing.....saw the show 2001 in munich.....may i be subjectiv...but you can nothing compare to ROXY!!!!!
First time I heard this song I knew I'd be listening to it the rest of my life.
Just recently discovered Roxy Music, and I just can't stop listening to them, love this song, Bryan is f**** awesome. Greetings from brazil.
Me too 😅. I liked Bryan Ferry solo albums, but didn't listen to Roxy. Now I can't stop ❤️😊. This song is fantastic.
I've been binge-listening to this song for days...in the car, at home...it's magical on so many levels. Bryan Ferry and Roxy Music...Pure Genius.
Rediscovered this tune and loving it even more than I did in my youth. This song, like so many other Roxy Music compositions are musically speaking, perfect and the lyrics are brilliant and so so sentimental.

This is one of my all time favorite songs, I can listen to it for hours.
hours??days, weeks and years and whatever time frame has yet to be created
starting at 1:18 ? like me
I don’t want perfect. I want Robin
Yeah, this song reminds me of an extremely dark time in life, that’s when I discovered it, but now is just pure catharsis...
I have been… All week and more 😊❤️🥰
Class was ONCE in a form of a Band . A Real Band .. ❤ I want My Old Life back .. 😑😑😑
Before cell phones when people would enjoy the moment, so refreshing I long for the simpler times

Bryan and his band are timeless.Great Phil Manzanera,Chris Spedding, the Chorus!!! Long live
Roxy🕉☯☮
I remember them yrs in the 70's listening to Roxy in highschool, they were the band.
A band and song so far ahead of its time.
That I agree. They sound not dated at all to me.

The words in this song are as relevant as ever
Legendary Ferry‼❤
I love this song, Brian is a genius, his voice so smooth and harmonious
My first and still favorite Roxy Music song I can still remember hearing it come on the radio and 72-73
spectacular band and song
There are so many layers to enjoy in this wonderful music and lyrics.
A lot of people don't get roxy music they think it's all Bryan in his tuxedo and the smooth Avalon kind of stuff but it's not it really is a it of everything that's what makes them the band they are there's a definite rock edge Ie the great Paul Thompson a true rock drummer Phil Manzanera doing his rock thing David gill our stuff , mr rock n roll motorbikin Chris Spedding , Andy Makay with his 50s feel rock no roll sax , and then there's Mr Ferry on one hand the old fashioned crooner these foolish things etc , on the other hand the soul and blues boy fingerpoppin style , and then the rock star See the first two albums etc plus others it's really varied that's what makes them so good
Then they don't hear the music at all. It's quite intense, sexy and melodic and vibey music.
The legend stuff are the first four albums.
Though, Avalon is a classic in it's own right!
Sexy sexy sexy sound!
I saw Roxy Music twice in my life, once in 1976 in Defiance Ohio and in 2002 at Pine Knob (DTE music theater) in Clarkston, Mi. Both shows were mind-blowing events; That original band is so good!!
Roxy Music - since 1973 - what else😉👌
Me straight after 1st Album
I do love this song... it makes me dream... Roxy Music and Bryan Ferry ... I couldn't live without their music! 💗💗💗💗💗💗💗
Agreed fully
Sublime! Lovely seeing Katie on the back screens.
Can't believe this is 21 yrs ago! I have tickets for 02 in October🎉

@Glenn Page Music. Really? I wonder which of these simple songs you consider startlingly similar 'cause I don't hear it.
@@martineplourde1752 Bowie admired Ferry.Ferry is the Pinnacle of Art Rock.1956 was the big year for Elvis.
He never skimped on the band. Best rhythm sections in the business.
That’s Roxy Music. And the great Paul Thompson on drums

I always loved the lyrics
Poetry of a very high order 💐

Art and music in perfect symmetry
This is what musical greatness looks and sounds like
Still, totally dedicated professional Live performers.
Best Live band I have ever heard by a mile.
Phil Manzanera extraordinaire.
One of those rare song's that never get's old. I wonder if Bryan had a girlfriend named Pearl and he had the hots for her mother Ha ha.
One of my all time favourites..hes the master of changing the tempo of his songs.❤🎶🎶

I give up . I have been wrong . Had only heard the syrupy songs before. This is a superb rock n roll band. And Bryan is my new house god :-)
