Grace’s confusion about Darby O’Gill and the Little People has become my favorite recurring gag on the channel.
I was 5 years old when I saw Darby O’Gill in the theater. I remember being scared of the scenes with the banshee.
I recommend “Shake Hands with the Devil”.
Great Irish pics. SONG OF THE SEA seems very similar to John Sayles' SECRET OF ROAN INISH, which I recommend. Beautiful score, too.
The Quiet Man!! I didn’t know today was St. Patrick’s Day, any excuse to give it another watch.
So jealous of that slipcover of Banshees, adore that film as well. Honestly. I think last year Oscar Noms just hit so well for me.
The way the war is related to how we view life and depression. Gosh, it’s just perfect.
I have 4 favorite Irish / Irish-themed films that I highly recommend. The mystical "The Secret of Roan Inish". The humorous "Waking Ned Devine". The heart-rending, yet ultimately joyous "A Shine of Rainbows". And the movie that's tied for my all-time favorite, the absolutely sublime "The Quiet Man". I'm glad to see it on your list. This film is responsible for inspiring in me a life-long love of all things Irish; their culture, history, and especially Celtic music. Matter of fact, my son and I are traveling there for the first time in a couple months.
Waking Ned Devine is one of the funniest films I've seen in my life! Highly recommend.
Sing Street is SO good and I wish more people saw it.
Sing Street is an all-time top ten favorite film of mine. Absolutely love it to pieces, one of the great moviegoing surprises of my life.
Martin McDonagh, definitely one of my favorites. “In Bruges” became my favorite film the year I got into film, and to this day has not lost the title. I may be a Swede but his Irish sensibilities speak to me.
You guys rock! I loved Banshees.
You really need to watch The Quiet Girl (An Cailín Ciuin). Came out recently and is easily one of our very best movies from Ireland.
I loved The Banshees of Inisherin when it came out theatrically. A few months later I showed it to my mother and grandmother and the both hated it so much. I feel like its a film that requires a very specific sense of humor or outlook in order for someone to get something out of it.
I plan on watching Banshees tonight for the first time.
Love the choice of Once and an additional musically themed movie I would add is The Commitments; solid R&B covers. I saw Darby as a kid on The Wonderful World of Disney and wondered what James Bond was doing there.....🙂
I just adore the studio cartoon fairytales.
I knew to watch through them again.

Grew up on Darby O’G. One of the vhs tapes we had.
The quiet Man!
Love the videos, man. Keep it up!!!
The scenery in Banshee's is worth it alone! The actors are at the top of their game here and the Donkey is the best :'(
Other Irish films I would suggest are, The Commitments also set in Dublin, The Wind that shakes the Barley, Titanic Town set in Belfast and My Left foot and Calgary also with Brendan Gleeson. Good you picked Once it’s a great film they also produced a stage musical from it. There’s Hunger very tough to watch with Michael Fassbinder set in Northern Ireland.
My two favorite are ... State of Grace and The Quiet Man.
I haven't seen many Irish films, but one of the best is The Quiet Man. I was able to pick up that release from Walmart for a good price and the transfer looks great. I'll have to check out the others in y'all's list and Once sounds like an interesting watch.
Would also recommend Fords The Long Gray Line from the indicator set!
Check out an Irish movie called The Snapper. Colm Meaney is the lead actor. I really enjoy your channel. Lots of good recommendations!
The lead actor in Once is one of the guitarists in The Commitments.
For Turner Classic Movies,
I’m Robert Osborne 😉😂🤪
I’ll also add my vote for more DJ and Grace co-hosting. You guys are super charming together like a Preston Sturges screwball romcom. Maybe not as loud? Or Nick and Nora Charles without the martinis? And talking about movies instead of solving impossible murders?
🤷♂️😉😂🤪❤
Banshees was great. Boondock Saints would have to be my favorite Irish movie. Hope it gets a 4k remaster. Since Disney owns Fox I hope this is one of the movies they license out to Sony.
I would also like to recommend McClintock with John Wayne and Maureen O'Hara
Probably obvious that I would agree with The Quiet Man. Have you seen The Secret of Roan Inish? It seems like one you would like because it is a children’s fantasy film.
I haven’t, but it’s been on my watchlist for a while. This would be the time to watch it.
I'd be completely shocked if 'The Commitments' was on this list 🇮🇪
I haven’t seen that one yet. We tried to watch it last night, but it wasn’t available to stream or even rent anywhere unfortunately.
🍀
Poitín is a real Irish film, not something for the tourist board ;)
Waking Ned Devine
Thanks for the recommendation! I haven’t heard of that one.
@@FilmsByColor cute movie. Family friendly.
Y'all should check out the Disney movie The Luck of the Irish. It was a Disney Channel original movie that came out years ago. It's on Disney +
