I'm sitting here in the hospital with my moms, this game brings me back to a time when life was simple and I was happy, I can't remember a time now where I have been truly at peace, it only comes in spurts, it's just work and trying to break even, watching this helps my anxiety, weird comment I know
I get you, this was my first nes game and I must have been about 5 years old (36 now) and I'd never seen the game completed. I remember having no worries and just been lost in my own world playing this with all my family together ❤
I barely remembered anything about this game until watching this and it all came flooding back. Some of those jumps are still so deeply ingrained in me from doing and redoing them as a kid that I could nearly feel the button presses.
This game was so underrated. No one I talk to ever even heard of it, and it's quite full of complexity for an NES game. It's actually a fully 3-D game (from only one perspective), the first one I ever remember.
The weird thing is it was actually a pretty popular game when it was released. It sold well, and it got good reviews from gaming magazines. But for whatever reason, it just didn't stick around in the public consciousness like other games of similar quality.
@@FlatPlutoSocietyNah. It flopped. Had alot of attention and hype during 1990. Was released September 11,1990 and I remember it was critically panned. EGM at the time gave it one of the lowest ratings ever in its history at the time. Snake,Rattle and Roll has a cult following. But I mostly remember it for being overall unforgiving, annoying and frustrating to play. This was the very first game in my entire life that I completely gave up on. RAGE QUITTED completely.
Snake Rattle n Roll is a pretty killer isometric platformer that, as long as you don't mind the difficulty level, is among Rare's best games on the NES. Btw, did anyone else notice how Sonic 3D Blast is pretty much the same game?
My best memories are from my childhood, playing this with my older brother for hours on the weekend. Thank you for giving this a play through as we never did finish it as kids since our old NES died and our parents bought a PSX as an upgrade.
Snake Rattle 'n' Roll was not only ahead of its time, but it's startlingly well put together for how experimental it was. My Aunt showed me this game when I was just a little one
Wow this is so crazy. I never knew how close to the end I actually was when playing this game... Almost got to the end of the last level so many times. That's crazy. I'm literally shocked by how close I got to clearing this when I was a kid, but I always thought it was impossible. Lol. Kind of makes me want to play it again now.
Mannnn... loved this game when I was 6 or 7 years old. Time flliiieeessss. The music, visuals and expressive main characters were great. Only ever got about half way 😅❤
i remember with this game, if you rush to the end of the first level you see the UFO taking off. I thought if you caught it you got a level warp, but I never could get to it in time.

Actually it's quite easy if you know the trick: press right at the beginning. Never press up or down. Just right. Press to jump when needed. That's it.
I think this was the first game by Rare that I ever played. It was really fun, but really hard, especially some of the trickier jumping sections late into the game! To this day I still don't know how my younger self managed to beat this game.
Awesome! This was the first Nintendo game I ever owned simply because it was 9.99 retail. Still haven't beat it without using a save state at the crazy last jumps of level 10.. Well done!
I spent SO many hours playing this as a kid. However, I just noticed he spits the legs out of the walking ball thingies 😂 Pretty brutal Rattle, pretty brutal.
This is the first game I can remember renting a few times. Technically my parents renting it and me politely asking.I owned games like Ninja Gaiden, Ninja Turtles, and Battletoads... but I never owned this game. I can't believe I lived in a time where this game was NEW.
Woah one of my favorite NES game title when I was child. But level 9 and 10 are total nightmares !!! The foot is very difficult to destroy, some jumps are just a pain in the ass...impossible...I think I finished the game once but never managed to do it again.
This games looks quite simple but it’s incredibly painful to play. You wrench the controller in your hand as you mash the D pad while sitting on the angled platforms. Hard hard game
Hmm, not so sure about that. I'd say that Wizards and Warriors is more well known, even though Acclaim published it. Everybody that was playing back then remembers Fabio's face on the cover of Ironsword.
Wow! As a kid occasionally me and my sister managed barely to get to level 5. And by the time we got there, hardly had any life left... so always got beat there. Hard but so much fun
This game just screams CHILDHOOD! At the same time it makes me feel old haha. I was so god damn happy the day I managed to defeat the last big-foot and jesus christ, those ice levels were enough to turn anyone into a masochist.
One of my never beaten games. I played it all the time and was regularly able to get to the final boss but I could never beat it. It was impossible! I even went years later and tried a game genie code and still couldn’t beat it.
In the first level if you sprinted all you could (maybe there was a speeding key involved) till the very end of the level without stopping anywhere there would be a rocketship waiting for you to take you directly to level 7.
Woah!! been trying to find the name of this game for ages :O Man watching this feel so weird never made it pass lvl 2 when i was a kid. I didnt even know it was a snake LOL Thought it was a weird worm thing that spit out nail clippings LOL
TOO DIFFICULT! I ruined my joypad first escaping from the ice levels and then trying to defeat the last foot. I played lots of NES games, but this was the one that pushed me to resign without finishing it (and without holding back some curses and swearwords).

U r ready to die now
not weird at all. we are all experiencing the same thing called life.
Most underrated game for Nintendo. Definitely one the top games especially for two player.
It was made by rare....
I agree with this
Underrated?
@@morgan_blake yes I don't know anyone else who played this game.
Now is a Microsoft game

We used to play it alot. Never got past 3rd level. 😂
My whole childhood relived within 32 minutes of this video 😂
Same man 🤣🤣🤣
That f'ing level 9, ice mountain!

One of the hardest games ever... That freaking foot -_-
the ice lvls are so hard XD
Totally!!
@@FreyofKtau Faild so much xD
I swear the foot is impossible
17:42.. one of the coolest Easter eggs I've ever seen.. the ascending platforms say "Game Boy"
did they do a Game Boy version with platforms that said NES? :P
I climbed that platform hundreds of times as a kid and never noticed.

Those ice platform levels at the end look amazing!
Shame we never got that Snakes In Space sequel.
Ok that Sonic 3D comment just blew me away dude.. holy shit!
@@thecowboy2 hi 3 yr old comment! The genesis one has an extra level that is on the moon which kinda makes up for the promised sequel lol

The soundtrack based on old Blues classics still pops out of memory from time to time. Shake rattle and roll baby
This is one of the greatest games ever. Spent so many hours playing this with my friends.
I bet your friends were freaking hot and sexy!!!
OMG IM HAVING FLASH BACKS OF MY CHILDHOOD...1 OF MY FAVORITE GAMES EVER 🐍🐍🐍🐍🐍🐍
One of those games that knocked you down and kept kicking you and kicking you. Never did finish it.
Dorelaxen God yes, it abuses you every opportunity it gets
Same here. Never been able to defeat the last big foot.
Тоже не прошел
I played this game ok 34 didn't see all the bounces
Lick that foot

Amazing performance. The ice level was just hyper hard!

Now you can! They've added it to the online library for Nintendo switch. So if you have a switch & the online membership then you can play!
Soooo many hours in this game, was so proud that i was the Only brother that finished the game! Was sooo hard later on and frustrating
I remember playing this game when I was like 7 or 8 at my grandparents house. I miss those times 😞
I had to refresh my memory! My sister and I would ALWAYS play this game together and laugh and laugh. 😂 Ahhh, childhood memories unlocked!
after 30 years i finally See the end Outtro.....thx
the foot is beatable. ..
One of the weirdest games I ever played when I was a kid; even had enemy toilet seats. But it was pretty fun.
Good ol' summer 1991 before I got my SNES. Played this game and loved it
Mannnn... loved this game when I was 6 or 7 years old. Time flliiieeessss. The music, visuals and expressive main characters were great. Only ever got about half way 😅❤
Definitely underrated one of the best 90’s games brings back memories🥺
I was so cold in this game!!! This took me back!

THAT WAS AWESOME, ONE OF MY FAVORITE GAMES AS A KID! THANKS BROTHER
Used to sit and play this for hours lol. Good memories.
I loved this game. I put it in my top 10 games.
This game loved it lot of frustrations as kid and now i see it again haha the sound everything brings me back to my childtime 🤣
I remember playing this at a friend’s house back in the very early 90s. I remember I could never get past level 4 and the toilet seat enemies….
I knew I wasn't crazy. I knew I played this damn game as a child and wasn't thinking of Qbert.
I remember seeing this game in Nintendo power but didn't know what the game play was like. Thank you for playing this!
My favourite game back then when I was a small child. 😄

Snake, Rattle and Roll is the only NES game where you fight toilet seats as enemies.
Thank you for the Nostalgia!! Play it in Childhood with my Sister!!
Are we going to ignore that awesome soundtrack?
I never finished it ( the soundtrack of the second stage is killer btw :D)
loved this game. the smacking was hilarious xDDD and what made this so difficult was the diagonal view. So weird to manoeuvre
That Ice level, man! So many hours trying to do it as an 8 year old!
I think this was the first game by Rare that I ever played. It was really fun, but really hard, especially some of the trickier jumping sections late into the game! To this day I still don't know how my younger self managed to beat this game.
I used to be able to beat Mike Tyson! Those days are looooong past, I tell ya.
Dedication, focus and no stress or distractions that's how! Childhood at its best! 😅
This game was like a bad acid trip

Anyone know what system I can download this game on?
Ph@tMantv yeah the internet

A super hard game back in the day as a little kid. But the tunes were funky
The memories! This game was severely underrated
My friend had a copy of this game and we beat it two-players....only with help from the Game Genie! Good times. Damn, Rare made awesome games!!!
I spent SO many hours playing this as a kid. However, I just noticed he spits the legs out of the walking ball thingies 😂 Pretty brutal Rattle, pretty brutal.
has to be the game that pushed nes or the regular Nintendo to the end of what it was capable of. a great game.
I remember having my mom call the nintendo councilors for how to defeat the last boss. Those were the days
the kind of game you used to rent from the video store, and surpingly addictive
Gotta admit Rare always has funky music in their games even back then
+Hanferd Totally. David Wise is the man!
He still making videogame music? My fave Tommy Tallarico haven't heard of him for a while now
I f*cking adored this game
This is game is the precursor to games like Getting Over It and Jump King.
A title theme that became lodged in my head forever.
Those are probably the best physics I've ever seen on an NES game.
I never reached lvl 8. Thanks for this Video.
This is the first game I can remember renting a few times. Technically my parents renting it and me politely asking.I owned games like Ninja Gaiden, Ninja Turtles, and Battletoads... but I never owned this game. I can't believe I lived in a time where this game was NEW.

This games looks quite simple but it’s incredibly painful to play. You wrench the controller in your hand as you mash the D pad while sitting on the angled platforms. Hard hard game
After making Snake Rattle 'n' Roll, Rare promised to make their next game much easier. Battletoads.
Did you notice how the snakes, battletoads and donkey kong country characters all have the same eyes?
😂😂😂
I had it, never did finish it though, was too busy with SM3 and Chrysalis, but I still love this one all the same.
One of my top 5 favourite NES games!
Now i want to have snakes in space

Hmm, not so sure about that. I'd say that Wizards and Warriors is more well known, even though Acclaim published it. Everybody that was playing back then remembers Fabio's face on the cover of Ironsword.
And Battletoads and RC Pro-Am and Donkey Kong Country are another one of Rare's best-known games too!
Dorelaxen But they don't remember who did the Game.
In every Rare Documentary and other stuff they Only Mention this Game.
No one I've ever asked remembers this game. No one. I'd say it was pretty obscure. Very good, but obscure.
Who could forget Digger T Rock: The Legend of the Lost City? Absolute classic!
Haven’t seen this game in eons. Still remember that last climb on the slanted steps. Never beat it.

level 8 actually
But it's hard without extra lives and continues from there on
