Omg he was so handsome here. Eyes not hidden by glasses, thinned hair,a nice subtle suit, even a simple stud earring. Just him and a beautiful voice and a piano. He has such talent, he didn't need the outlandish getups. I guess they did garner attention, but he didn't need it. Too bad he never thought he was good enough. This proves he was.
Elton was hitting cocaine and booze pretty hard during this period. He's pretty much said that this time was a blur of partying and excess, and marvels at how the hits still kept coming though.
I totally agree. This was my favorite period in his career. He played from his heart without the fanfare or the hoopla that was to follow. His wonderful voice and his piano was all he really ever needed.
His very best performances were always the ones when the song just came out, another is Sad Songs in Wembley 1984, just magnificent, and promoted the song, his latest single whenever it was, perfectly well.
Actually I love the subdued feel of it being on piano only, although my preference is for the lushness of the full instrumentation... gave me that magical tingle all over listening to it when I first fell for a blue-eyed beauty.
barb balaska Indeed! A younger Elton John looking so handsome, unmasked, pure and performing an excellent heartfelt delivery of "Blue Eyes." I wished I could have been there. 🕯🕯🕯🕯🕯🕯🕯🕯🕯🕯
I don’t always like live versions of songs, but Elton John is such a fantastic singer he carries this off beautifully. It is one of my favourite songs of his. If you’re out there John.P, I know this song always reminded you of me! 💙
This song demonstrates Elton's very wide vocal range. Notice how low he goes in this song and we all know how high he can go, or used to maybe. Nicely done Elton.

The piano king! Elton does mime to a backing track like the artists of today! This superb song is almost like precursor to "I guess that's why they call it the blues" from the following year as it shares a similar 6/8 tempo.
Elton dressed conservatively for a change and without a wig, hat or funky glasses on. Makes you wonder why he got caught up in having to look so outrageous as his career took off.
Beautiful, no lip-syncing with a pre-recorded track. Just Elton and his piano. One of the most amazing musical talents we'll ever see on a stage.

It is amazing what this man can do with just the piano and his voice. Those dissonant chords are amazing!
"Idol" has this jazz quality as well!
The thing that frustrates me is this song is from a period of his career that is mostly overlooked and yet it's up there with most of his best work.
It's arguably the best song Elton's ever written with Gary Osbourne.

@@TravelinBand747 Besides Sir Elton; Keith Richards, of "The Rolling Stones" , may or may not have drank "one too many", during the same time period.
how frustrating for you! I hope you're able to recover.
Every time Elton decides to use just his voice and piano I know something magical is going to happen. His is an ocean of talent.
Just class, no gimmicks no autotune brilliant songwriting and performance.
Talent. Passion.
Elton John has given us so many beautiful gifts that will resonate in our minds and hearts.
Simply beautiful.
This is by far the BEST version of Blue Eyes I have ever listened to! Thank you so much!

Probably the most calmest elton john song

This song was my wedding song back in 1987! Love you forever David!
barb balaska how lovely I hope you're still happy together
What a killer performance
Classic. One of the best songs at that time.

Incredible voice and piano work. True talent like his doesn't need anything more.
Gotta be one of his best live recordings. All Elton needs is a mic and a piano.
Elton is so handsome in this video. What a magnificent performance. Thanks so much for posting!
Beautiful performance.
A great song. I almost didn't recognize Elton without his glasses.
I did not recognize him without his Donald Duck suit from 1980!

+KRAZEEIZATION Yes, as well as in concerts when Blue Eyes was played, I guess thats why they call it the blues was played as a run on from this song.
Along with Billy Joel
If I could do this, I would buy a piano and never leave the house again.
have to agree with previous post--best live version of Blue Eyes....
Beautiful song beautifully sung.
A personal favourite from a man of whom I have many favourites!

I'm sleeping
I never understood why Elton was so insecure about his baldness.
so do you think being bald is pretty?
He's since improved at performing this song.
