Well done with the 20K Helen. You will absolutely adore caravanning we had a caravan from when my children were babies and they are 56 and 59 and loved every minute of it. We caravaned all over Europe and had fabulous holidays. When my children grew up we both decided to sell our 4 berth and we bought a new 2 berth and just spent long weekends away and loved it. Then my hubby became ill and had clots pass through his heart into his lungs so when he eventually got better we could no longer use the caravan it really broke my heart to sell it but it is what it is. We then decided to sell up and move to Spain we had 10 wonderful years on a golf resort until hubby was diagnosed with stage 4 bowel cancer so we had to come home. You are right you must do what you can now. Enjoy your caravan you won’t regret it.❤️❤️

I’m so pleased you’ve taken the plunge and brought a caravan, I know you and rob will love it ! Many sites now have “fully serviced pitches”, which means your water is plumbed in , as well as being on electric hook up. It saves you having to fill your water tank up daily. But… you will need to have to pipe work with you to fit the water hook up…my husband is very good at all this stuff, I leave all that to him! We’ve been caravanning for over 30 years, and I love it! We’ve had lots of caravans, our current one has air conditioning as well need that abroad, but as our uk summers are getting hotter, we are grateful to have it here to!
Towing is ok, it’s different towing a single axel, to a twin axel, twin axel is more stable. I’m sure you will get the hang of it! I think you may have the same car as me, in which case towing will be a breeze! Have fun and enjoy! Xx oh and congratulations on 20000!

Your “Helenification” will be absolutely marvellous darling! A caravan will be such fun… being in a caravan and listening to the rain falling is a fantastic feeling I think…there’s something really tranquil about that I think. I was really giggling…in this vlog you were showing your new caravan pan and you said something like “I got this pan for…cooking”. When you paused before saying the word “cooking” I thought you were going to say something like “for…incase we’re caught short during the night”!! Sorry - just my warped sense of humour lol! It was just the way you said it 🤣 Anyway, you’ll have great fun in your caravan I’m quite sure. Enjoy Helen. Looking forward to your live on 23rd…CONGRATULATIONS again on reaching 20,000.

20k is a massive deal and an amazing achievement! Lovely to see you so excited about your caravan and future adventures. My late husband and I loved ours and saw lots of this lovely country of ours over the years. Having progressed from a tiny tent before the children were born to a large tent, where you could actually stand up in and zip your jeans up, to an enormous tent to accommodate three sons and accompanying pals, we moved on to the luxury of a caravan. The plan was always to eat out but in the end I thoroughly enjoyed the challenge of cooking up meals in the van gin and tonic in hand usually! I can conjure up the smell of caravan shut up all day in the sun! They were wonderful days, even the wet ones. A good book, music and the odd glass of something made up for the inclement weather. I do hope you make lots of your own wonderful memories! I am an airport or Southampton docks girl now (hmm that sounds dodgy). My partner, a wonderful man, has never done caravans but I will never forget. Enjoy! Xx Liz

Great caravan Helen! We bought one 11 years ago when my husband retired at sixty and have had the most wonderful holidays travelling all over the UK and also three European trips , two travelling through France and one to Spain. Unfortunately my husband has a titanium plate in his lower back and had both knees replaced and after our French holiday last year he said he couldn’t manage another holiday abroad with the van. I was devastated but he then agreed that he could manage a motor home as there wouldn’t be the difficulty of bending hitching/unhitching etc-so we are now proud owners of a motor home, since October. Had two trips already and are planning Germany in September for a month.
Looking forward so much to hearing about your excursions, and hope you love it as much as us 😃
Also, love watching all your hauls in your hall. I’m 70 and @ size 16 and seem to have exactly the same taste as you in clothes and jewellery. Many congratulations on reaching 20,000 and hears to any more!!!

We got stretchy coated wire that attaches to little hooks for a spot that wouldn’t fit proper curtain rods. I also found extendable rods that have magnets at both ends for the windows in the French doors. Found them at a fabric store/ upholstery store. The thing people do who RV travel a lot these days is to have solar panels and an inverter installed so you have enough power for nice lighting and things like blow dryer, slow cooker or a coffee maker without having to run a generator.
I’m glad you found one you like and really hope you get to enjoy it a lot, the grandkids would love it. We had a tent trailer when my sister and I were growing up and it was pretty spare ( not even a cooking area inside) but we loved going different places, swimming in the ocean, having bonfires at night, I have many happy memories. 🙋🏼‍♀️

We've got a static by the sea now though we did the touring thing with a folding camper for years. If you are both pretty chilled you'll enjoy it. It's definitely a good way of seeing new parts of the country. My top tip is get some quick drying towels otherwise unless its really hot you have wet cotton hanging around forever.

Fabulous 🎉for the 29k Helen- tip for your caravan- take a portable induction hob and use it in the awning- you’ll have more space for cooking and the van will stay away from cooking smells- also take your multi cooker for air fryer and slow cooking etc - have fun 🤩

Hi Helen, congratulations on reaching 20,000!
It looks like a Lunar Clubman SB like we had for many years. Sadly
we had to sell due to ill health on my part.
I do recommend that you both try the beds to see if they’re going to be ‘a bit on the firm side’. Many caravaners buy foam overlays which makes a huge difference to comfort. However, you may prefer a firm mattress.

    • @Helenmaryjo

When we first got our caravan my stepfather was a bit nervous of towing for the first time. He decided to travel overnight. Coming back from Somerset along the M4 we went into a service station where we saw that a stretch of the motorway had closures due to road works, so he ended up towing a caravan through Slough with loads of traffic. Luckily the other drivers were kind enough to let him in at junctions and lanes. A little tip if you hang clothes up in the little wardrobes place cushions on top of the rail. It stops the clothes from falling off of the hanging rail.

I'm really happy for your Nanavan 😊. We have a 35' travel trailer that I am the primary diver of...my husband isn't able anymore. I think the sway bars make all the difference and we have a big-ass truck to pull it with and can't really tell it's even back there. I, however, do not back it up---that would not be good for anyone 😆😆.

We had a motor home for several years and travelled around near and far from home. We loved it, but have since sold it as we are older now and not wanting to do the camping thing anymore. You’ll find most camping people are very helpful if you don’t know how to dump tanks etc., so not to worry. Just make sure everything is secured and put away before driving, but I’m sure you’d realize that. Hope you enjoy all your adventures in it. Good luck.

FWIW. Look at Bar Amigos water dispenser. if you are handy put some velcro on the side of the caravan and the side of the dispenser and it stays put whilst you travel.. Put the water dispenser on the side near where you make tea or coffee. you fill from the site mains tap every day..... and don't drink the water in the caravan tank, ugh. It's the best bit of kit.

Hi again my lovely. Re: changing the Curtains.
You could stick with the ‘grandparent Style’ which is is all the vibe now . . .. have you thought of leaving the originals. Up and just hand stitching your chosen new fabric over the top (stitch the bottoms on too) giving a Black-out bonus, the chang E you desire .. . . Cushions matching- your favourite thing Helen - another BONUS. - Color- coordinated comfy coverlets . .. .. I do not need to go on as I know from one dressmaker, professional, mother of many = Life’s Engineer and Trroubleshooter, etc, you will have your own spin and. Inspirations!!!
Just an idea I an now guessing you would ponder on knowing you would make Fun fun fun.! GO HELENIZE IT GIRRRRL,!,!!!

What have you done? Well you have started to enjoy lots of mobile fun travels.
Like many others I’ve enjoyed many good years of travels in a caravan.
My top tip is to get a fold up table & chairs so you can sit outside in your annexe, then enjoy the passing parade of people who will greet you & often strike up conversations.
Then use that table also to cook outside on. It saves inside food smells etc & gives you loads of extra space.
Best Tip: Bring a Slow or Multi Cooker. Prep food in the morning & off you go exploring & come back to a delicious smelling & tasting meal. So comforting & little work.
I wish you both well in your beautiful new caravan.

Buying a caravan is the best thing we ever did for our little family... it takes a few trips to work out your ideal set up but it's fun figuring it all out. We do a mix of caravan and posh holidays and it suits us well - my 6 yo daughter holds Disney World and Devon in equal weight! When buying your bits think about the weight (you'll become obsessed) - I bought a gorgeous blue Kampa dinner set that is very lightweight. Rob can get excited about the cadac - my other half takes it everywhere now! You're making me want a new van now :D Enjoy and congrats on 20k.

Yippee! Well done on 20k subscribers. My husband and I want a caravan too. I’m going to opt for a fixed double bed I think. My family have always had caravans and every year they tend to come and stay down here in Brockenhurst, so we can go and visit. Are you going to do a local trip first to put it through its paces, or going to go for it and do a decent trip? Xx

    • @Helenmaryjo
      @Helenmaryjo  3 месяца назад +2

      Thank you.
We'll do a fairly local one first to test the water (not literally!) and then a bigger trip. I didn't want a fixed double because I might be sharing with Katie and I'd rather be on my own in a small bed than squashed in a double. Also, I felt that the twin beds are more useful during the day, but that's just me. I hope you find one that you like xx

I’m not a “caravaner” so a few of the terms/words you used meant nothing to me…just imagining what a aquaroll is, I think that’s what you said without going back to check. I’m excited to join you as you go on your adventures and learn all about the world of caravans. Thank you😊

Oooh I love caravans!! So glad you and Rob are going ahead with the idea and I hope you will video some of your travels 😊. You are so right about doing things while you can. I have the happiest childhood memories of caravan holidays in the ‘50s (when they were pretty basic with gas mantles) and have enjoyed staying in them ever since. Your grandchildren are going to love their time in it. Carry on Helenfying it and good luck with the towing course. xx

My mum used to sit in the caravan on our drive, whatever the weather. When she retired mum and dad went off to France for three months and had a very jolly time. It won’t matter what time you set off you will always arrive at tea time when everyone is sitting eating and you become the entertainment. Caravaners are very helpful and will come and help if they see you get stuck. Golden rule of toilets, only liquids 😂. Loving all your bits and bobs you’ve bought as you have to watch the weight and how you load and balance the van.

My daughter and her ex husband had a caravan. Her ex in-laws were caravaners and spend a few weeks of the year abroad. My daughter stayed at many places in the Uk but they regularly went to Spain on holiday and she drove most of the way. I don’t think she ever did a towing course but she’s a confident driver. (Shes now a bus driver) so I’m sure you’ll be ok.

Congrats on 20k and the caravan ! I think you will love the 'van life - we bought one 9 years ago and have no regrets - on our second van now which is a twin axle as we needed a bit more space with our two labradors ! There are some fantastic sites out there and you will get to see so many places. Just be careful how much 'stuff' you have in the van as they have a weight limit - we initially bought a lot of bit and pieces for our van but have pared it back over the years to only things we use/need.

Well done! But please be careful with replacing any soft furnishings (I believe this may include curtains) or covering sofas. It MUST be fire resistant or you invalidate your insurance and would not be covered if your van was destroyed by fire. Check your insurance, probably in the small print. We had a motorhome until recently. We did have a rule, no number 2's in the toilet if on a site with facilities. My husband is squeamish and emptying the cassette was his job, a blue job as you say!!

Helen it looks amazing, my best friend has also just purchased a caravan , similar I think to yours. Her partner is also going through the wars at present so overseas travel is not an option. They will tour probably next year but this year they have booked 6 months down at east wittering. They live in Chichester so they can just pop backwards and forwards for a few days. They have grandson of 13 and 11 and they are so excited and intend to spend as much time as possible with Grandma !!! I will be booking an overnight , not sure I am quite ready for the full caravan holiday but it will be fun for a girly night.
