I listened closely to this song and was surprised that the rhythm part was indeed an acoustic guitar. I some how never noticed or associated acoustic guitar with The Yardbirds. That's a nice Tele, BTW. Loves me some edge binding on a Tele.
Are you sure the chorus isn't D F G - D Bb F - D A G ? Not D F G D F G D A G? That's how I play it anyway :) Also I just play the sitar riff as single notes against a ringing open D rather than using it as a drone. Your way sounds cool though. Just looked at a couple of other versions and they are the same as mine.
Here's Grahman Gouldman using Jon's chords exactly right ruclips.net/video/8Je6Lg84-xs/видео.html here's another kickass version by the composer-at first I thought it was too slow...then I changed my mind ruclips.net/video/FjTdiAEISCE/видео.html ( there are some quick background guitar riffs on this one that would keep Clapton Beck and Page up all night !) until today I never heard that lyric "Tell her of my plea"! and I've been listening from 1964 to the Yardbirds

do you mute the 3rd in the open G major chord ?
I just noticed that your name is kind of a pun on the Beatles: McCartney + Lennon = MacLennan Great lessons, BTW.
