    Good job. It helps if you leave out the screws in the last joist before the butt joint until after you install the butt board. The drywall is more able to flex into the butt board.
    I was thinking of making some kind of butt board and your solution is great! Thanks.

    some drywall adhesive would have made your seam stronger to prevent future contraction cracks since the attics temps will change with seasons.

    I can only imagine how your neck and arms feel after that reaching and looking up for extended times..😵one thing for sure you stay focused to completing a task.💙Moving right along.😊..is Belle trying to get sneak peeks into the room??     It makes perfect sense. First time I heard of this. I did a lot of dry wall work in an old house I had once but never heard of a butt seam. Where did you learn about building? You are doing a great job and it must be very gratifying.

    Awesome hack, good workmanship. In Australia we’d use stud adhesive as well as screws. Also I think your taping mud is a little thick. Wouldn’t hurt to mix in a little more water next time

    Just a couple of suggestions, the board behind could be much narrower 2-3” wide would do! And the joint should be left open 1/4 inch. I guess you will not be using stiff insulation in the ceiling.
    We in the U.K. often skim the entire ceiling with plaster. However, you did very well to achieve the finish you got, well done.

    Did the math. Trim tex butt boards are $14 a piece. Making these on your own is roughly $2.31 a piece. The best thing about these is you dont have to stagger butt joints. They finish like a regular flat & of you have a long ceiling or wall even it makes finishing a breeze. Its like an extra flat the length of the room you can box in one run instead of jumping around doing pain the ass butt joints.
