    The most underrated artist of this century, she's like the new MJ.

    Janelle Monáe is a legend in the making. I've never seen someone so young effortlessly blend R&B, funk, hip hop, psychedelic rock, and disco in their music while creating her own identity.
    Outside of music, she is a strong, beautiful woman who carries herself with class and dignity. I pray that she continues to stay out of trouble and make great music.

    Never heard of this woman until two weeks ago. The interviewer is baffle by her composure but he must understand that foremost Janelle is an actress. She has total control of emotions when interviewed. As for being a writer, she is able to think fast and give logical answers without offending anyone. I admire her vigilance to stay true to herself and not allowing her integrity to be bought. Her crusade to bring positive music, unity, and more enlightening images of black woman is most admirable

    I just saw the Interview with M.I.A. and am now reaching the end of this one and I just figured out why I have both Records of this artist on my collection and I haven't any of M.I.A.'s work.
    Two artist that are worlds apart. Inspiring words and mindset.

    I do wish Jian had asked more questions concerning the science fictional mythology behind The ArchAndroid. The keyword he is missing here is "Afrofuturism," and in this respect he missed an opportunity to have her wax indepth on futurism - the early reference to science fiction and the last reference to Kurzweil were points that could've been expanded in serious depth, as well as her reinterpretation of Lang's Metropolis.

    Sept/17/22. Very nice interview with Janelle Monáe. Different route to the same destination puts me in mind of the new tune 'Universal Love'. Just watched two interviews in a short space of time. Recorded by different channels 2008 and 2011. 💜✌🏾

    She wants the right thing. The human problem is a spiritual problem. It's not political, or academic. The heart of mankind is sick. But we fight against what we really need.

    I don't think Jian is "baffled." Far from it, he's one of the better interviewers yet to claim the mic in CBC's long history, and here is trying to tease out something from behind Monáe's guarded personality. He pays close attention to what she's saying, and unlike many if not most interviewers, improvises his questions to pick up on her statements. A few passages from this interview have since become canonical quotes for journalists writing about Monáe.

    Similarities to MJ's ideas... She's just making her own organic rendition... The difference is that she was not forced or raised to become an artist, she chose too, un like MJ.

    At 11:03 or so she expressed her brand and not wanting to support women in lingerie etc; and discusses core values. Funny look at her in 2018. What are her core values now?

    • @inflatable2
      @inflatable2 6 лет назад +3

      Her values and views are still the same, but she has made her point with the whole Cindy Mayweather story and has moved on to now do more personal raw stuff with Dirty Computer.. I also think Trump being elected as president has made her " snap" politically and she very much picked a side now, which has also made her come out as pansexual etc..
