  • In this video I show how to fix the rear door on a Chevy Silverado/GMC Sierra that will not open. This is a very common issue on these trucks, GM uses a plastic clip attacked to the door latch rods and overtime gets brittle and breaks. The black plastic clip I used in this video can be found in the Dorman assortment pack from Amazon. I have provided a link to it below.

A coworker of mine some twenty-five years ago said that all cars and trucks are junk. After my own life experience I have certainly come around to agreeing with what my late coworker said. GM could have used a metal fastener on that latch rod instead of Goddamn plastic that would not last given the stress of use over time but the vehicle manufacturers couldn’t care less about long term serviceability. I have waiting for me the Chrysler Pentastar engine oil cooler/oil filter housing to replace on my ‘12 Chrysler 200 Touring convertible. I am certainly going to replace it with a Dorman aluminum housing which is going to last. Chrysler’s stupid choice of plastic has caused a whole cottage industry to spring up with many individuals replacing this same part that should have been made of aluminum instead of plastic in the first place!
