Aaron is such a dad! He so wants to believe that Logan is secretly doing things for his children's best interest. He had the same take in the season 1 finale. Bless his pure paternal heart.
I think this finale is truly the moment when Succession went from "one of the best shows on TV right now" to "one of the greatest TV shows of all time."
I think it comes from him being a dad. That he wants to believe that Logan is doing this out of some tough love type thing, he doesn't quite understand that Logan's just a controlling prick lol
16:16 This is a really key line right here. "No real person involved" or NRPI was what the Cruise division referred to as illegals or sex workers who fell overboard or died on the cruise ships. Logan is not only admitting here that he had full knowledge of what was happening at cruises by his casual use of the term, but also that he sees the person Kendall feels he killed in that same way. This is the turning point for Kendall where he decides to make a stand against his father.
I think at the time there were lots of theories and this was one of them floating around back then too! I always saw Logan’s reaction to be similar to that Kung Fu Panda meme “finally a worthy challenger, our battle will be legendary!” He won’t ever give up the company without a fight, Logan ALWAYS wants the best deal possible.
You are partly saying that because of hindsight maybe. Because connecting these two links ; logan saying youre not a killer and the slight smile in the end after Kendalls betrayal. Aarons theory is v much plausible when u consider this link.
to this day nothing has quite made me feel the way the final 5 minutes of this finale made me feel. it's a masterpiece. jesse armstrong won an emmy for writing this (and went 4/4 for writing emmys with 3 of those wins coming from his season finales as well) and it was much deserved.
Imo this was the show at its peak. I think the seasons 3 and 4 are great, but I'm a little disappointed by the way the whole "war" between Kendall and Logan was actually handled.
@@anais6654 I’m not a fan of all the hate on Shiv, but that was probably one of her worst moments in the show. Don’t get me wrong, the cheating was awful, and the way she handled the open-relationship. However, she was willing to send the person she supposedly loves and wanted to spend her life with, her supposed best friend, to prison. It wasn’t even a thought to fight back then. Every character does something awful, they’re all horrible people, but I think this moment was one of Shiv’s lowest.
"What could you possibly kill, that you love so much, it would make the sun rise again. I wonder if the sad I'd be without you would be less than the sad I get from being with you." Screenwriting does not get better than this. Period. Succession is GOATed.
Just finished watching the full length reaction. This is one of the best episodes of television ever made. Every time I watch it, it impresses me. The balance of humour and tragedy, the exquisite acting of everybody, the camera work, the opulent, yet oppressive location, the gorgeous score and that last shot of Brian Cox is perfection. God, Succession really is one of the very best shows ever made.
Shiv trying to do both a decent thing in saving Tom, but also terrible in pushing for Kendall. I also agree, very good chance the sacrifice does not serve prison time. Yes corporate criminals do go, but far from a guarantee.
Aaron, how much more information do you need in order to understand Logan's character. What other information can they give you in the following seasons to make you stop having hope that he's a decent person?
The idea that Logan would step down of his own volition is strange. The pilot made it clear that this will never happen. Logan giving Shiv a schedule of 5 years made it clear that this will never happen.
I think Romans reaction is one knowing that Kendall is the only person who would ever protect Roman from his father, example when he hit him a few episodes ago. Without Kendall around Roman has no chance against his dad.
As soon as Logan heard that the shareholders thought it should be him he likely decided on Kendall because it's the next best thing and he knows Kendall won't rat him out or else he'd bring up the stuff in England. On the NRPI thing, I think Kendall wants to do the right thing but he also considers himself cannon fodder. It seems like his dad had no issue fucking him over after everything Kendall has done to impress him so it's definitely a mix of emotions there.
27:06 for "one last family time" logan actively destroyed the mood and pitted everyone against each other the literal entire time😭 constantly stoking the flames of infighting and then leaving them to fight amongst each other. and he didn't actually spend much time with everyone lol
Did y’all ever notice/mention that the actor who plays Jamie, and of course Brian Cox, both portrayed William Stryker in the X-men movies? Do you think they compared notes lol
Aaron thinking that Logan brought everyone on the boat to have great family time one last time before he, Logan, has to go is so...sweet and good-hearted. Yeah, just one last time with papa-boss. Especially given that they "already discussed" Ken with Shiv prior to this, as the conversation between Logan and Shiv clearly suggests. Like idk how much more clarity you need that Logan only does what's best for Logan and everything is to manipulate the situation in his favor and to win. "Subservient son he turned in to"? Bruh... who turned him into this Kendall-Reek in a first place, pulled him out of rehab after 2 days, what Naomi sad. You have watched the whole season of Logan making this version of Kendall as his loyal puppet and preferred him like this (and the only time Kendall started acting up - he took him to the boys house to remind him what Logan has on him and not to show any autonomy).
The breakfast table scene is so good. All table related scenes in this show are master pieces Roman notices Logan intention immediately. Everyone turning agains each other. Roman defending Gerri fiercely after showing true business acumen about the Turkey deal. Karl, Gerri and Frank bickering are exactly like Roman, Shiv and Kendall. I always thought they were competent version of the kids. Tom being grilled and Shiv joining in, the way he loses it. Shiv and Tom scene at the beach, so heartbreaking. The actors are soo good. Then, Shiv saves Tom and ends up sacrificing Kendall in the process. I love to hate Shiv, she is incapable of showing love, sorrow, regret... or any honest emotion at all. Its so infuriating but interesting. A female characters with profound flaws and little redemption qualities is hard to sympathize but I still do. She suffers as much as the people around her. Jeremy Strong is amazing, his facial expressions during the scene with Logan, being told he is not a killer plus Logan calling the waiter boy NRPI. Logan threats commoners like disposable garbage. He knew about and allowed the behavior of Mo for decades. Logan should be the one taking the blow. THE JUDAS KISS and bad ass press conference. jumped out of the sofa when Kendall said but, and then started to trash Logan. I lost it. LETS GO ITS WAR! PS: The family drama is so intense sometimes that I mostly tune out the obscene amount of wealth displayed. I usually notice when they are being wasteful, cause I am really sensitive to it, especially with food. I drives me insane, I hate rich people and their lifestyle but the yatch is incredibly cool, I would enjoy that very much.
Funny you mention Fisher Stevens's appearance on Friends... he was apparently an asshole to the cast and the subject of some unflattering recent comments by Jennifer Aniston. Oh, and his performance in Short Circuit might be the most unintentionally racist thing ever filmed.
Aaron is such a dad! He so wants to believe that Logan is secretly doing things for his children's best interest. He had the same take in the season 1 finale. Bless his pure paternal heart.
Brian Cox's subtle grin was so perfect. A giant of acting.
I think this finale is truly the moment when Succession went from "one of the best shows on TV right now" to "one of the greatest TV shows of all time."
Unfortunately it never continued that path in the subsequent seasons.
@@barryaran6147 You're right, it got better
@@pryex8565yeah season 4 is banger after banger. Such a great final season.
@@pryex8565agreed
100 %
Eric is absolutely correct Logan was never actually sacrificing himself I think Aaron finds way too much good in everyone 😂😂
I think it comes from him being a dad. That he wants to believe that Logan is doing this out of some tough love type thing, he doesn't quite understand that Logan's just a controlling prick lol
I love how much Eric is enjoying the show now that he's embraced the fact that everyone is terrible and we still care.
“What could you possibly kill that you love so much it would make the sun rise again” is one of my favourite lines ever spoken in a show. So so good

I love Aaron but his read that Logan intended to step down and wants Ken to force him out is genuinely insane
Aaron sometimes has really out-there theories 🙂
surprisingly this was a lot of people's reads of the season finale when it first aired and it baffled me then too lol.
Aaron wants to believe Logan, and probably by extension the rest of the Roys, are better than they actually are.
You are partly saying that because of hindsight maybe. Because connecting these two links ; logan saying youre not a killer and the slight smile in the end after Kendalls betrayal. Aarons theory is v much plausible when u consider this link.
"He ate my f'ing chicken"
Logan said that as if he was almost proud of Tom.
Imagine watching this show live and having to wait over 2 years for the next episode. Brutal.
Yes, I know, I was there 🙂
I got to binge all 4 seasons at once… it was exhausting😂

The fact that Roman stood up for Geri at the dinner table while Shiv happily threw Tom under the bus…

Probably the best finale of the series. That fucking smirk from Logan in the end is so damn good

14:13 that line from Tom is so relevant to so many relationships. I’ve had to ask that question twice and it was always soul torture.
Fun fact: Kendall kisses Logan on the cheek exactly like Judas kissed Jesus on the cheek before he betrayed him
Shiv trying to do both a decent thing in saving Tom, but also terrible in pushing for Kendall.

This is one of the best finales and final minutes of a show. Top tier television.
Brian Cox's smile at the end is literally one of my Favorite scenes in the entire show
Logan's subtle smile was everything
Fisher Stevens also played the critic that Charlie kidnapped and the gang held hostage in Always Sunny lol
This episode is beautifully brutal. Damn. And,in my opinion, it only gets better from here.
I am a little confused on how Aaron has managed to so completely and totally misunderstand Logan's character almost 3 seasons into this show.
This elevated everything for this show. I was left in shock for days. Top tier acting
The idea that Logan would step down of his own volition is strange. The pilot made it clear that this will never happen. Logan giving Shiv a schedule of 5 years made it clear that this will never happen.
Logan is a machiavelan narcissist, never in infinity he would sacrifice for the better good
