It’s hard to believe that the station I go to in Chicago when I ride my Rock Island Metra was once served by one of the most famous NYC Named Trains: The 20th Century Limited.
That's what I was thinking too. I mean there's already a PRR T1 Trust rebuilding a T1, why not a trust rebuilding a streamlined J3a Hudson?@@soundwavesuguremashita1608
One of the most detailed and well done videos I have ever seen on here. Such a beautiful set. I’m sorry I was late to the show and missed this set in 2014. I’m keeping an eye out on the auction sites since all the big train stores are all sold out.
I love this thing to death. Literally this engine was the most amazing thing! Like Eric said you got the red carpet treatment on this engine. Fin China, a amazing view, spectacular food and all of it in fith teen hours. I honestly believe that we need this baby back and on the rails again.
What a magnificent looking set, the engine looks so cool and I agree with you on the tender it looks really cool and PFA sequences are great. I can't believe how much you get the passenger cars for only $100 more then the engine what a great deal. Great review Eric!
Beautiful set. If you get the Lionel Empire State set, I think for the running session, you should pace the two since they were the crack trains of NYC.
Another great review for a very handsome set. Also loved your back story to the NYC as well. I'm always interested in railroads that come to or near the Chicagoland area. Thanks for sharing.
Two things Erik, 1) the Genesee River runs smack dab through my home town of Rochester New York. 2) love the way the locomotive blows smoke rings from the exhaust. That is so cool.
Great video !!! Thank you. I read there is a Hudson, Locomotive somewhere in Penn. It just might be located near Scranton,Pa. Now that would be something to see on the tracks.
I've often considered building another streamlined Hudson when I get older. If I get enough money and Investors, It could work. If the British can build another Peppercorn from Scratch, We can surely build a Hudson from Scratch too. If there was a Hudson that was saved from Scrap and restored, I could have seen it Double Heading with N&W 611. They are both Iconic examples of Streamline.
My favorite streamliner is already preserved, but it would have been nice if Aeolus had kept its shrouding. I'd also love to have seen a MILW F7, a CNW E4, a NYC J3a, the Blue Goose, the Southern Tennessean, a N&W K12, and also MILW class A Atlantic.
Ought to take a leaf out of the book of the British and build a new streamlined J3a from scratch like was done with the Peppercorn A1 Class 4-6-2 "Tornado". It'd just be a matter of getting up the money, acquiring a suitable workshop and all the machinery to make the parts (or have companies that can do so build the parts you couldn't make in-house), then putting the thing together. Like Tornado, a new J3a could have small adjustments made to its design to help it fit in with the modern railroad, but still be faithful to the original locomotives. It's time we started building a new steamer of our own, and I have to admit seeing a J3a going like the wind with a passenger train would be a grand sight.
I had one of those Noma stations. It was a nice piece. I'd had it since the early 50s. I sold it many years ago when I went to HO. Now I'm back into O-gauge and wish I still had it although the MTH station I have in many ways is head and shoulders above the old Noma station.
@@NS-hw5wza Hudson is a larger pacific passenger engine it just had a freight version with smaller drivers and no streamlining so the NYC was using it for its intended purpose
This got me thinking, I couldn't find the MTH cars on their own, but did find the Lionel aluminum car for a great price, I think 300 new for the set, the colors are bit different, but they go great with a greyhound Challenger.
Eric, I love your reviews! A quick note, the mail hook on the baggage car is backward, I am unsure if it is reversible or not. Or you ,any have to flip the car about. The open part of the hook faces forward.
Eric, great review. There is a drawbar kit for proto 3 locomotives available. I found it not too long after I got my railking big boy. The gap was unbearable.
Yes MTH makes shorter drawbars for Proto Sound 3.0 steam locomotives. There are two different sets, they each have three in each. One has drawbars 25, 30, and 45mm lengths (#20-89020), and the other with 30, 35, and 50mm lengths (#20-89021).
Great job on the review. I am sure the "crew talk" feature must be one of the more controversial points: my personal feeling is that if the "talk" were a bit more authentic, it would be more acceptable. Imagine actually telling the fireman how to do his job down to the last detail? A pair of black eyes for the engineer would probably follow shortly afterwards.
You should make a huge passenger station some time soon it's just a suggestion I know you like your whole it's my railway I can do whatever I want but you should take that in mind one day
+The Diamond Tree films // tone does it \\ 50.00 dollars for a train ride was a lot in 1928. If you had $20,000 in bank you were considered a rich person.
Would an MTH model like this be compatible with Lionel’s Legacy or TMCC control systems or vice versa? I’m thinking of getting into this hobby and am trying to learn everything I can.
Did they ever do a release of p, T, and S Motors that were used to haul the 20th Century LTD from Grand Central Terminal to Croton-Harmon on the 33.2 mile long electrified Section?? Now that would be cool to model the whole operation!!😁😢
It’s hard to believe that the station I go to in Chicago when I ride my Rock Island Metra was once served by one of the most famous NYC Named Trains: The 20th Century Limited.
26:02 the best whistle ever BFIMO
If one Dreyfuss Hudson was preserved and restored, I bet it would be part of Norfolk Southern's 21st Century Steam program.
That's what I was thinking too. I mean there's already a PRR T1 Trust rebuilding a T1, why not a trust rebuilding a streamlined J3a Hudson?@@soundwavesuguremashita1608
Nostalgia always has a place especially here .Sadly not one J class Hudson was saved as you know,so much for NYCs
Oops!so much for NYC management attitude at the time.
They're rebuilding a T1 from scratch they should've built this one first
I really wish they would have saved one of these, they are absolutely beautiful, kinda like that girl u want but shes outta ur league 😂😂
The whistle on this engine is my favorite MTH whistle.
It's almost a horn. It's NOICE
I’ve heard it before on the toytrains1 channel
My grandfather’s UPRR challenger has the same Whistle
It’s off a NP Z8 challenger

This is a beautiful locomotive and the matching passenger cars are awesome! Great video, great content!

Fantastic video; 20th Century was such an icon and realism on the Mth is awesome!! Thanks so much for posting this. :-)
One of my most favorite engine. Eric.
Beautiful pass. train set, I always enjoy your well documented videos, please, continue the same way.

When you said that your dad had a postwar lionel train it made me think of my grandfather. He had a vintage lionel postwar 646 hudson and I love it.
Great video !!! Thank you. I read there is a Hudson, Locomotive somewhere in Penn. It just might be located near Scranton,Pa. Now that would be something to see on the tracks.
FANTASTIC review Eric!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It looks like MTH did a great job with this set, love the whistle! Thanks for the video bud and have a great one!
Bill Yates Thanks bud!

+ericstrains did you know that the NewYork Centrals were called ghosts of the rails
they did why?

My favorite whistle of all!

Noma was at one time a big name in Christmas lights and other decorative items for the season, among its product line.
I agree with you on the best feature. Truly beautiful set. Thanks for the review.

Beautiful, just beautiful !! Great smoke & whistle. ;)
On the bright side, the Santa Fe 3751, Norfolk & Western 611, & Southern Pacific Daylight are still around today.
@Nathaniel Cruz, Union Pacific Big Boy 4014 is back in action.
@Nathaniel Cruz, yes.

I've often dreamed of rebuilding a Milwaukee Road F7 Baltic, like the engines that used to pull the Hiawatha. 4-6-4s are just wonderful, aren't they?
If someone were to add streamlining to Santa Fe 3463, the Blue Goose could make a return.
If I were to have the money, resources, and support, I'd rebuild an EM-1.

Shipwright1918 Aren't there programs that aim to do such?
+TorvosaurusImperator
To my knowledge, there is a group that's making a Pennsy T-1 duplex, but no J-3a's yet.
Nice standard whistle sound effect! Love the locomotive to.
This thing never gets old.
Great review and beauitful set Eric!
This Locomotive is the real life Connor from Thomas and Friends.

Eric, This is an express engine. RUN IT FAST!!
He is making it go fast
It’s a freight train, disguised as a passenger train
He can do whatever he wants with it it’s his not your plus he was anyway you don’t make it go 70 through a station
20th Century Limited Productions the Hudson was a mainly freight locomotive they just put streamlined parts on it
@@NS-hw5wza Hudson is a larger pacific passenger engine it just had a freight version with smaller drivers and no streamlining so the NYC was using it for its intended purpose
I really love this Locomotive , great presentation - I Liked & Subscribed 👍😎
Thank you this is one of my favorites!
That steam engine is so butiful. I am ordering it right now.
You mean "beautiful"
I hope you enjoyed it :)
Just imagine if you could take off the streamlining! Just amazing!
Yeah
Very nice with another video from Eric keep up the good work
Oologah Northern Railroad yeet
The 20th Century Limited back in the mid 30's had Pullman Heavyweight coaches and was pulled by a NYC Commodore Vanderbilt.
Beautiful, just beautiful 👍

Some one needs to make this train a starter set
@Jonah's Trains I hope your feeling is right
I showed this video to one of my friends and she said the whistle sounded like a lions roar!
Beautiful engine ! The wheels are cool !
do you know or have anything on the Silverton train? if so I would like to know
Great review for a great engine. Love the video.

The red carpet for boarding passengers was suggested to NYC by Roxy Rothapfel as in Roxy theatre.
Same here, I wish there was a Dreyfuss Hudson out there!
Just bought this engine... now need to work on the rest of the passenger cars. This is the only NY Central I wanted.
Does MTH have a control supply similar to Legacy?
What control system did ericstrains use in the you tube?
The set looks fantastic!
Love your channel
I haven't seen this review but I already like it
That's a pretty awesome engine!
"Stellar"! Thanks Eric!!
Here's what I'd like to know: how did they get past the streamlined shrouding at the front to get at and clean out the smokebox every day?
My personal favourite feature was the front coupler panel now that's detail
do you know or have anything on the Silverton train? if so I would like to know ty
Hey Eric how are you? This is a nice set where can I buy get one of my own and how much and do they make any add on cars to make the set longer?

How many NYC Hudson have scullin disc driving wheels?
Definitely like these MTH locomotives
Lionel is always so cheezy for the price. Amazing what a famous name gets you.
When you reviewed the Erie Triplex you said “If it was MTH It’s best to wait until later when we do the PFA”
What’s the purpose of the middle rail? Is there a hidden set of wheels under the engine?
$50? Oh if only time travel was possible....
50 DOLLA!?!?!?!!?!?!?!?!!??!?!?!?!?!!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?
+The Diamond Tree films // tone does it \\ 50.00 dollars for a train ride was a lot in 1928. If you had $20,000 in bank you were considered a rich person.
20,000 is 244,500$
If it was $50 then in the next 10 years it will probably cost $20, 000
Just like bitcoin
That's about $750 in today's money
I’ve always imagined the fireman on the locomotives without drop plates chucking chunks of coal like a baseball into the firebox
I may have asked this before, but would an MTH model like this be compatible with Lionel's Legacy Command System?
Great review!
what a beauty
There is a twentieth century limited at the nashanal New York central museum in Elkhart with a steam loco
That whistle is on the Southern Ms mikado Porto Sound 2.0
I LOVE STREAMLINED TRAINS. MY FAVORITE IS THE J-3 HUDSON! AND I CAN UNDER STAND WHY THE TWENIETH CENTURY IS SUCH A FAMOUS TRAIN, I LOVE IT!!!!
My fav is the torpedo.
+Jonah Mitchell that's a nice engine to
Would you do a video on track pans ?
Would an MTH model like this be compatible with Lionel’s Legacy or TMCC control systems or vice versa? I’m thinking of getting into this hobby and am trying to learn everything I can.
An amazing set! If you ever get the chance, can you check out the lionchief trains? I think there cool but you might think different.
In case, you didn't know, the 20th Century Limited was the New York Central's flagship train.
Great this is great set can you do the new haven Hudson's locomotive.
i know i commented on this before but i looked at the one with 14 wheeled tender and it doesn't seem very streamlined like this one
Wow fantastic steam locomotive, I rly wanna get it
May I remind you they did not have to go to tender a lot if the engine has an auger in the tender
Did they ever do a release of p, T, and S Motors that were used to haul the 20th Century LTD from Grand Central Terminal to Croton-Harmon on the 33.2 mile long electrified Section?? Now that would be cool to model the whole operation!!😁😢
I can’t find this anywhere. How can I get one?
Were the Dreyfuss Hudsons not equipped with dynamos?
Can you do a review of your narrow gauge train please?
You should see if Railking has a Reading Crusader , i saw it and it is an awesome streamlined engine, you should review it.
Way do you have the baggage car backwards? The way you have it the mail hook could never work, the train would have to be going in reverse.
Now that’s a streamliner!!!
Hey Eric got any Used Locomotives For Sale !?
WOW! do they have it in HO?
i have the ps2 version and i luv it ! nice review..
What do you mean on the tender by real coal like do you mean it's actual coal or it's like plastic or metal
So cool!
i love your videos
And the videos love you!
