It will always accumulate strenght before landfall it will decrease its strenght if there will be mountain ranges on its path. I've over-prepared multiple times for storms because you never know until it's close or hits. When you go through one of the rare but really bad ones it makes you realize that over-preparing is worth it.

I remember being a little girl in NYC in a hurricane. We were on the 4th floor of a brownstone. We were terrified, we never heard wind like that! The eye hit and it was BEAUTIFUL! Sun shining, no wind, everything sparkling! We wanted to go out and play, and thats when Mom dropped wisdom I never forgot! "This is just a break before it gets worse!" I recall not believing it, and then.... the back hit and she was right. It was so bad, the second half!

It's CRAZY how I NEVER knew how cool it is to see the eye of a hurricane. I ALWAYS thought, embarrassingly up until a few years ago, I thought that the EYE was the strongest part of a hurricane!! BUT, I now know 😳🤦♀️ it's the calmest part. It's really cool to look up and see a perfect circle with clear skies and the clouds around it aren't clear.. It's eerily quiet and calm that it's deceiving and if you didn't know better you'd think the worst was over. CRAZY and COOL at the same time,!!
When I was a kid and hurricanes came through, we stayed inside and watched. When the sun came out, my mom knew it was the eye. She sent us outside to run around on the wet grass. She said “ten minutes, that’s all you have!” When the sky became overcast, she’d call us back inside to watch the second half of the hurricane. We completed a lot of jigsaw puzzles during those storms.
It's pretty incredible that the lights are still on after the first half of the hurricane. Ours goes out if someone even spits near the power grid where I live.
Was in Puerto Rico during Hugo...the eye of the storm hung over us for 2 days. There was an extreme silence and stillness, not even bugs in the air, and after the hurricane hit, it looked like a bomb had gone off outside. Hope to never experience that again. Hope people stay smart and safe.

I have been on the eye of typhoon Yolanda once. Thank goodness the surrounding mountains lessened the impact of the strong winds in my area. But still, it's very strong even with the mountains around protecting us.
It was crazier for me out in east Bradenton during the eye. It was DEAD CALM, with like 500% humidity, there was so much humidity that it was hard to breathe and the mosquitoes were ANGRY...REALLY ANGRY.
I remember that feeling when you're in the eye of the hurricane. It's almost like a perfect atmosphere. Just like the video. No wind, no rain... In the daytime, it's bizarre. Stay safe people. It's about to get messy! Tell your people you love them.
I feel so bad for the birds that are being swept along with the storm. They go into the eye because it's calm and get bombarded when the back wall comes. So they keep following the eye and end up far, far from their home territory.
