My name's Frank Downing and I really liked how you talk I do do the carvings I'm going to follow your teachings and send you some pictures of what I've created myself thank you for everything you're a master you got a god-given talent and you enjoy it
Keep on talking that's a good thing while doing the videos. I would love to see you do a full length how to video. Carving a Bear. Explaining each and every cut no matter how long it took. You are such a good artist. I believe your students in tube land . Would love it 🐻
I am an old combat artist, retired Marine but you wowed me with your happy bear carve !!!! Simple and really great expression. Love the tools you use and your techniques describing the the cuts. GySgt C. Gurley USMC Rtd Keep carving !!!!!!!
Your buddy Jordy Johnson said to stop over and check you out in a few of his videos. I'm very happy I did. I plan on starting to try chainsaw carving. I'm very familiar with safe use of a chainsaw. However I really didn't have any idea how to tackle a bear with this tool. I've carved a few with my knives, but I wasn't sure how that would translate into big logs and chainsaws. You have inspired me to give it a go. Thanks for the inspiration. I love watching your content. Have a great one, and keep em' coming!👍🏼
Thanks again Ryan I've watched this thing so many times it wish you got paid for each time. LOL I'm doing a slightly different berries heads turned and tipped but once again your video save my ass and made it easy
Hi Ryan, is there a catalog that you know of that has all the things needed for carving, like chaps die grinder and things like that, I can't find anything, so I hope you would know. Love your carving of the bears and eagles and all the others you do great job Ryan.👍
Awesome as usual bud. Just doing a cub in a log from a carving bears book. Not happy with my mouth, going to try to tweek it your way a bit. Thanks again. Oh ya don't let your guard down. Stay awesome and have fun, later
Hello Ryan love what you do. Question though I see you use a lot of cedar is there any other wood you use or would recommend for a beginner and where do you get your wood? Gord
Man, I love your "how to" vids! You make it look so easy...here I am just making firewood, can't tell you how many logs I've ruined....but watching you always gives me a little bit more of a push....keep it up brother
Great mate, very inspiring except we don’t have bears in NZ so I think I’ll go to your owl video since we have the native Rufus or more pork. Struggling with my ne2 stihl170 with carving bar, vibrating loose, bar and chain coming apart. Any suggestions? We can’t buy Echo saws here.
Looking forward to the upcoming vids, Ryan. Sounds great! Do you sharpen a lot or start each carve with new chain? Your cuts look smooth and effortless. I sharpen daily but don't seem to get quite as much power into the wood. Ripping downgrain is slow....
Hi Ryan..Thanks for the invaluable teaching. I just got my first saws last week and carved 7 bears ...sold one already! What gauge bar are you using on the Echo and do you grind back the heels on the cutter? Thanks....Rebecca..from NY
MOST People just have ONE chain saw on hand... 16 0r 18 inch.... Any chance of making a video using one chain saw so we can see the challenges we might come up against using a bigger saw? Thanks
@@RyanCookCarvin that's the answer I needed...I carve and build huge musky baits and do some taxidermy work so I have about a dozen air brushes. Createx paints work great..I thoroughly enjoy your videos and like your sense of humor...is your class full?
@@RyanCookCarvin I watched all of your programs on Viasat Explore... I'm very glad that I found you on RUclips. Now I'm trying to do carving myself, your lessons will be very useful. You have a fan in Russia now. )
Thanks man it's a beautiful bear head. I've stayed away from carving bears because my neighbor thinks everything we do is a competition. He carves bears. He's afraid Meinl show him up. I just want to do cool s*** thanks again

Hey Ryan awesome bear. It's the wood that you use green or seasoned 1 year 2 years? Thanks bro.... just trying to learn.
unknown how long its been down but still little green
Another great vid Ryan . What kind of paint do you use acrylic .
i actually dont kno
Hi Ryan..Thanks for the invaluable teaching. I just got my first saws last week and carved 7 bears ...sold one already! What gauge bar are you using on the Echo and do you grind back the heels on the cutter? Thanks....Rebecca..from NY
Fantastic!
Love the bear and am working on one now !!! Question ??? What is your opinion on relief cuts down the back of your carvings?
It's good i think its good then patch it up after
So cut a relief in the back when I first start? Then before finishing fill it ? Sorry ha. Still learning!!
Yup if that’s the road u want to go for sure ive seen that done and work well
I’d rather not cut into it at all honestly but if it actually keeps it from cracking i guess it would be worth it
MOST People just have ONE chain saw on hand... 16 0r 18 inch.... Any chance of making a video using one chain saw so we can see the challenges we might come up against using a bigger saw? Thanks
Hi Ryan, cool looking bear. Great instructions for those new to carving. What size saw do you recommend for learning?
depends on what used for cs 501p
