  • The book we know as 1 Enoch was well known to early Christians. Its importance produced an understandable question among some influential early Christian writers and, one may presume, Christians in general: Should 1 Enoch be considered inspired and thus “Scripture” in the manner of other books in the Old Testament? Ultimately, Christianity at large answered this question negatively, save for the Church in Ethiopia. But the discussion is nonetheless of interest today. This episode presents an abbreviated survey of how select Second Temple Jews and early Christian books and writers assessed the scriptural status of 1 Enoch.

This is a great episode. “The God Culture” has an amazing very long series on Enoch, Jubilees and other Dead Sea scroll material. It’s amazing if you want to go deeper .

Thank you, Dr. Heiser!! There are experienced people in ministry telling people that Enoch, and the other apocrypha are fake and blasphemous. We need to draw from your authority and teaching; especially in these days of a lot of misinformation and confusion.

Enoch is fake though. The early church is full of wolves in sheep clothing too. Mike had no authority. He was smart and worth listening to his podcast but he was just a human and he was wrong a lot.

Pixie Dust I don't know about before studying. But I have heard him pray before. He has a video out where he preaches somewhere and he opens in prayer. I belive it is his 1 or 2nd time ever preaching but not 100% on that. This channel has it. Hope it helps.👊✌

Whose paper is Dr. Heiser talking about concerning 1st Enoch and Galatians ch. 3 and 4? (Somewhere around the 14 minute mark)

In Matthew 22 Jesus references a teaching of scriptures concerning marriage in heaven. This teaching is nowhere to be found in the entire Old Testament and according to Jesus these scriptures the Sadducees were unaware of also because they only accepted the Law as canon. The only place I have found this teaching in is the Book of Enoch 15:1-7.
Infact the Book of Enoch cover to cover teaches against the marriage of eternal beings explicitly. Enoch even explains to Azazel the Fallen Watcher ( see Leviticus 16 on Azazel ) why God allowed mankind to marry because they were mortal and not eternal heavenly beings.
No book in existence today fits the description of scriptures which Jesus was referencing outside of Enoch
