I don’t really read many gaming articles these days. I mostly know what I like. A few forum impressions, RUclips trailers or gameplay overview videos are enough to help me decide
Malls are weird in 2024. I think they're entirely location-dependant. They used to thrive in low density, car-centric neighborhoods, but now that ones that do well around me are in dense neighborhoods with access to rapid transit.
What mat says at 18:20 is exactly what the industry is now. It's self made by the games as a service model. I still like to try different things but there's only so much time after doing ya dalies. Gaming is so big that there is always going to be exceptions to the rule but it just seeps into ever part of gaming now. Great show as always
Game Informer wasn't a thing in my country but for other magazines, they kinda killed themselves. €10-15 for a magazine with out of date info? No thanks. Matt is using the comic example wrong regarding keeping games alive. You don't keep them in print forever, but DC and Marvel do have all those comics available somewhere for you to read. You can pretty much still read old comics, listen to old music and watch old films, but gaming. You can't just load up an old game without having a console and a cartridge from 30 years ago. Think of it this way, it'd be like having to find an old VCR and a tape if you wanted to watch an old film.
pirate software had some similar points. granted he is a 20-year game developer veteran but it is at least good to have some different perspectives as most developers have not chimed in
Well I do think that now is bad time for gaming, especially when you compare to PS2/Xbox and Xbox360/PS3 era. Nowadays if you don't like indie games you can go without anything to play for quite few weeks
At the same time, it's strange to lump all indie games together. They are very varied, you get many rich and complex indie games these days, not simple like the Xbox live arcade days.
Yeah. The right wing grifter content is not great. It’s just that, there are fewer quality games that satisfy every niche in a given generation. As a ps gamer, I know that if I want a racing, wait for gt7. If I want a sports games, look for ea games. If I want a fps, go for COD. Sony owned franchises are usually top notch, so as long as the genre appeals, I am going to like it. Beyond that, for a casual (casual as in adult limited gamer as opposed to kiddie Mario games), there isn’t much need for so many gaming journalism companies it seems.
The answer isn’t right wing drifter content…. Typical USA politics bleeding into everything… Most people just watch gameplay walkthroughs on day one and see if it’s something they would want to buy, or buy off the top 10 lists on storefronts. The reality is, the market is cruel - and it’s speaking… yet people don’t want to accept what it’s actually saying. It’s also no longer 1999-2003 or the era when ps2 and ps3 games were all massively evolving. Gaming has become copy and paste in most part - understanding what your buying is less of a minefield as you can answer the question of whether you would like a game sooo quickly by watching gameplay. The market is yelling at you…
