  • In this video, I teardown a 6R80 Transmission for rebuild to handle 700 plus horsepower, original unit had about 200,000K on it and actually was in very good condition, i rebuilt with special clutch packs, billet shaft for the O/D clutch, he had a custom converter made, new drum, valvebody, filter and one way clutch from Ford all loaded into a new case.

This is my favorite Ford trans, easy to work on, aside from the leadframe it is bulletproof, we have a fleet of F150's and found when we keep the fluid around 170-180 the leadframes last forever, we run the cooler bypass and install the f250 9 row cooler

Funny thing on the Transits, the planetary strips the splines but not on the Pick-ups

Fyi they also sell a aluminum extended capacity oil pan for this transmission so it takes about 11qts of oil and will extend the changing interval

no, at 0 mph in drive and reverse there is no noise. It only appears when I start moving, when speed and rpm starts to raise. The whistle sound appeared right after I installed used transmissions. So it 100% comes from the trans. So is it more probably the TC? Here is the sound ruclips.net/user/shorts6orMPSz1HzY?si=FdhzILLgz9R8Axlt

Great videos, is there a parts list or rebuild kit that you would recommend. And a list of specialty tools needed to rebuild a 62te.
    I Appreciate it. Thanks

Thanks for the video. I'm in the process of doing the same thing with similar upgrades for my turbo 460 Ford engine. Did you post an assembly video of this one? I can't find one is why I ask.

Hello! A have 2009 f150 with early 6R80. There is a whining noise only in drive and reverse. whining volume is directly proportional to the engine RPM. Can’t hear it at the speeds over 35 mph because of the road noise. Is more likely the torque converter making this noise? Thank you in advance!

So you hear the noise foot on brake in drive and reverse? with car not moving?
