This song is not for an older operatic voice in particular, but for a young girl in love. Hayley portrays the sentiment and typical feelings of the situation superbly and much to her credit.
One can only hope that someday she will come tothe states . I have several people about her and they really like her.I have three of her albums and plan to buy more
I agree with you absolutely! I hate when talented young singers over-reach to such an extent they could damage their voices. Be happy you have a nice voice, you don't need to sing the Queen of the Night aria when you're only 12! So good for Hayley for looking after her instrument!
This young lady is a real class act...No matter what anyone else says in the negative...she has a beautiful tone to go with such charm..wonderful talent one of the best to come from N.Z. after my Wife & Daughter that is :)
Eu sou um Professor brasileiro e gosto muito. Ouço e gosto de Haley Westenra (prezado Sr. DannyMauro1). I like so much this singer; she has a beautiful voice!
So thankful you posted/shared your comment. Your opinion counts! And I trust your opinion because I have the exact same opinion. But I am a professor of NOTHING. Hence the difference between our opinions. Most Respectfully, MH
This young lady wasn't promoted enough, poor management...She is one of those exceptional singers...Shouldn't have fallen through the cracks...Andrew Loyd Weber I'm ashamed of you that you haven't taken this young lady to your heart. This kid is huge...

One fine day you'll find me A thread of smoke arising on the sea In the far horizon And then the ship appearing Then the trim white vessel Glides into the harbour Thunders forth her cannon See you? Now he is coming I do not go to meet him Not I I stay upon the brow of the hill And wait there And wait for a long time But never weary of the long waiting From out the crowded city There is coming a man in the distance Climbing the hill Chi sara? chi sara? E come sara giunto Che dira? che dira? He will call, "Butterfly" from the distance I, without answering Hold myself quietly concealed A bit to tease him One fine day you'll find me A thread of smoke arising on the sea In the far horizon And then the ship appearing This will all come to pass as I tell you Banish your idle fears For he will return I know I know he will return
The story is a love tale between a Japanese laday and an US army officer in Nagasaki City, South Japan. I have made a video on which Mary Hopkin (famous for her "Those were the Days") sang this song. Back slideshow is of City Nagasaki. Please enjoy my video too and leave your comment, thanks (to Ms, Kanou2007 for put this here and all people visiting. Tommy A sincere fan for Mary Hoplin since 40 years ago. Once I attended her live held in Osaka Expo 1970.
I could be wrong, but this English language version (minus the added line at the end) of "Un bel di" was first performed by Deanna Durbin in her 1939 movie "First Love". She was 17 at the time, and sings this aria in a remarkably mature operatic voice, as was her style. However I still enjoy Hayley's singing here.
Thanks for your opinion, similar to mine, dear Martha Hanner. Thanks also for your words. From which country do you come from? I am a brazilian that lives in Porto, Portugal. Most respectfully, regards, Milton Madeira
I just discovered you comment/post when I came here to listen to this music video again. I am from the United States. The Great State of Kansas. Have a great day! God Bless You, MH
A beautiful new rendition of an old song. I like it. :) It's certainly better this way than in the traditional operatic style. That always sounds kinda un-natural to me.
tis not that they don't have feeling its that the celts where conplty oral no writen word so word have more importence and as New Zeland was founded by Scots and all Scots came from Irland shes Still at lest part Irish
Not a patch on Jenkins who is rocking America just now.Katherine is already a Warner star. Thetywill never go for Westenra she has about as much charisma in concert as a dead fish
Domingo sings all the time with Katherine Jenkins.I do not think he rates Westenra much at all. Hayley desperate these these days claims to have sold more albums than Katherine ,Katherine has sold 3 million more .Westenra was only wanted for 6 little concerts in the UK Katherine had to put on extra 27 I think. By the way Katherine will be sharing the limelight in a Boceli concert later this year i New York.Katherine will sing to the Queen twice (jubilee) Hayley Guernsey -well .
I don't you what you two were talking about, as Rico Sanchez deleted his comment...but I disagree with you. I like Hayley's voice a lot more (her pitch and her tone is good to me) than Katherine Jenkins, and I wouldn't say her stage presence is bad, it's average...but I guess that's just your opinion, which is fine.
I wonder if Domingo thinks Katherine Jenkins attractive. I would have thought Domingo the attraction in Christchurch, great opera singer she is not. Katherine Jenkins is not big in Australia despite having great management team, and that does help. New Zealands Kiri is a great opera singer, Katherine is never going to step in to her shoes. If her voice isn't angelic perfection, i don't know what is!! Hayley Westenra is truly talented.
@57bigjoe so true. most singers nowadays dont even have good voices. She does. She has a beautiful voice.
Hayley's voice is really pure. Gives a great emotion. I was really stroke, she has an amazing gift. I cannot say the same for Katherine Jenkins.
I agree with you absolutely! I hate when talented young singers over-reach to such an extent they could damage their voices. Be happy you have a nice voice, you don't need to sing the Queen of the Night aria when you're only 12! So good for Hayley for looking after her instrument!
o god am i in heaven for you to bless the earth with her beatifull voice!!! please give us more!!!

beatiful clear lyrics which make this song powerful and the emotion she brings it is truely magical.
I love her voice, and this song is just perfect.
Her voice is inspiring and unchanting
This voice fascinate me...
One of my favorites from Hayley
Beautiful rendition and that extra line at the end fits very well as an artists interpretation of the song.

Simply Beautiful.
A lovely lovely rendition...Puccini would approve... highly recommend more standards & art music performances!

She has indeed slipped thru the cracks.....but Andrew Lloyd Webber was busy at that time with his former wife; Sarah Brightman. Respectfully, MH.

Wow!.. Amazing
Her voice reminds me a bit of Christine Daar, the character from 'The Phantom of the Opera.' Her voice like 'an angle' or even better I think.

Climbing the hill
Chi sara? chi sara?

He will call, "Butterfly" from the distance

Hold myself quietly concealed

Oh god , i i' ve been thinking this too!
Yes, much more of Hayley and much less of the purported singers...Andrew Lloyd please pay attention to this lovely lass.
Does she have any U.S.tour dates planned
I absolutely detest the people who underestimate her.

yes, the Deanna Durbin rendition is also on youtube.com......listened to it and liked it also.

Martha Hanner Hey I'm in Kansas too!! And I'm totally obsessed with Hayley. =)
un bell di vendreno?
Puccini - Madama Butterfly?
Fully shows the inadequacy of pop singers.
tis because shes Irish we weave the songs soul in to the words and it can't be done with a loud voce

Hayley has a beautiful and ethereal voice, but not good to singining opera.
