On day 3, New Zealand batters could not hold on to their wicket and kept getting out. New Zealand became all out for just 88 runs and Sri Lanka enforced a follow-on. New Zealand batted again and made 199 runs in 41 overs but lost 5 wickets in the process. At the end of day 3, Sri Lanka is in a commanding position whereas New Zealand still trail by 315 runs.

Now let me explain you
First of all this is not icc tournament that you are including their icc tournament performance.Secondly,if you watch cricket from 2019 to 2021 then you will understand that how New Zealand won that WTC. New Zealand always plays only 2 test matches in a series so that they can maximum percentage point because in 2 test match series if they win 2 then will get 100 percentage points but if they play a 4 or 5 test match series then obviously there is a big probability of loosing atleast one match or maybe 1 one draw so they will not get 100 percentage points of the series.
In the 2019-21 Cycle they were lucky
They won against India,West Indies and Pakistan in their home and lost to AUSTRALIA BY 0-3 Margin and also lost one match to Sri Lanka.So they got enough percentage points to go in the final. Also the final was in England which is very familiar like New Zealand so they got another advantage over India plus they had already played 2 test matches in England before the WTC final so they got to know very well about the conditions
