Disqualified from a tournament for kneeling on a towel so not to get his pants muddy while punching out from under a tree. The rules of golf are ridiculous. I’ll never forget that moment. Stadler was entertaining and one of my favorites.
The commentary about his disregard of the rules for kneeling on a towel was very misleading. He knelt on a towel to keep from getting his pants muddy while hitting a ball that was under a bush. He didn’t think it was a rules violation, nor did anyone playing with him. A fan saw it on TV, and called in saying that it should fall under the rule that doesn’t allow you to artificially improve your stance. The officials agreed. Had he realized it while playing, he could have given himself a penalty. Because it was brought to light after his card was signed and turned in, he was disqualified for handing in an incorrect card. My recollection is that most of the other players, and the fans, were outraged that he was disqualified.

Cool and Fiery Craig Stadler ..Great to see a player with fun personality.
this doens't address what is he is doing now at 70 yr and how his health is. He was fun to watch in person...he could hit the ball like no other.
