- The call of the White-throated sparrow - Oh sweet Canada, Canada, Canada, or old-sam, Peabody, Peabody, Peabody- brings with it such an amicable whistle, that it is no wonder it goes so harmoniously with the peaceful expanse of Canada's boreal woodlands. You could even say, and many do, that the White-Throated sparrow's call has become an anthem of the boreal forest.

If you have a sick or injured bird in your possession I can not help this bird in any way it is strongly advised to contact a local vet or wildlife official before any decisions are made. It is very easy to do more harm than good when handling any wildlife.

This is my favorite bird call, and thankfully I finally figured out what sings it. I have lived in SC and GA all of my life, so I only hear this song in early spring mornings a few times a year. It is very peaceful and listening to them is a good way to start off the day.
That's great, glad you figured out who was behind this lovely call. I agree with you completely about it being peaceful, looking forward to their arrival in my parts soon!!
I have been hearing this bird for the last 3 weeks and absolutely love its song. Finally downloaded an app and found it right away. I have them in my back yard and by the feeder constantly.
I heard a bird at 5am in NC that sounds like a man whistling at a pretty woman. What is that? cant find a matching bird call.
From South Carolina also. And I also heard it in the spring. Happy to finally find which bird was making this call!!
ME TOO! I tried forever to figure out what bird this was!
We’ve been hearing this little guy has been singing on our roof for weeks now and we couldn’t figure out what it was. It almost sounded like an elongated chickadee call but it just wasn’t right.
But this morning, I finally saw him at my feeder and looked it up and found out it’s been him all this time! I’m so happy right now. Thank you for making this video!
I thought it was a chickadee too!
It makes me smile when he puts his head back and sings so beautifully for all the world to hear! Thanks Lesley!
I am a avid hiker of New Hampshires White Mountains. The White Throated Sparrow's call is my favorite sound in the woods.
I LOVED this video, I keep on hearing this song, and I never knew what bird it came from, but now I know!
+Helanie Tresidder Thank you kindly Helanie, I don't have the proper audio equipment for recording songs of birds, so I really appreciate that you enjoyed the video despite the noise of wind in the camera's mic, off and on :)
Glad you now know what bird is behind this sweet call
Helanie, same!!!!! Lol Now we know

Oh, and I started hearing this whistle few days ago, it sounded human and kind of annoying because it went on for hours, I said to myself who’s doing that, and why is it loud? 😆
I miss hearing them. Moved from Pennsylvania to South Texas last year. Every winter in PA they lived in the bushes by my front porch. I kept them fed all winter. Their song is so beautiful and sorrowful
Boy, I'm 57 and I have been hearing this bird my entire life at the family cottage and now I finally know what bird has this wonderful song.
Finally after all these years from childhood, I can identify the bird that made that noise when I was in the woods. Thanks uploader 🙂
I’m on my back porch watching them almost at my feet near the feeder and I just put this on and watched their response to the video calls there so cute/ there cocking there head and coming over near me looking for the bird that’s making the sound. Inquisitive little guys
HOW 😱 EXCITING 😳!!!
My favorite bird song to hear in the spring
I'm so happy I found this. This, the red winged blackbird and the mourning dove are some of the most iconic bird songs from my childhood
This guy sings outside my window every morning :) sounds like the angels!! Thanks for posting
Singer at 1:00 is hands down the champion! Reminds me of summers spent on the lakes of northern Ontario. Magical balls composed of feathers and song. Love them!
Aww cute
Hehe, R O U N D
Thanks for posting. These birds come through Maryland on their way to Canada and announce spring is here with their beautiful singing.
They're flying south now. I love them!
I used to want to visit Maryland b/c ppl would call me that instead of Marilyn... LoL
@@donsbaby7132 Oh wow 😂
I honestly had no idea they came through here on the way to Canada! No wonder I only hear them a few times a year. Thanks for this tidbit!
This is the bird I've tried to identify for years!! I love in Wayne County Missouri. These birds always do the long, mournful cry in wet, Spring weather here!! My Grandpa always talked about the Rain Crow, but there are two other birds I always heard during wet, warm weather too. I've now identified both! I'm very happy! The call on this video at 1:00 is the one they do during our Soring here, but it is usually longer, more drawn out, haunting!it's my favorite, and has been fir SO long! Thanks to my BirdNet app, I slightly caught one earlier. Thus was it's wild guest, and it's certainly, 100% correct! I love that app, and YT for such cool uses! Thank you! Have a fantastic day!❤❤❤ 🐦 🐦⬛ 🪶
Take Care All,
Amanda Heath
I FINALLY KNOW WHICH BIRD THE CALL BELONGS TO! You have no idea how long I have been searching for "the bird call that sounds like Dee Dee dododo dododo dododo"
This call reminds me of my childhood. You can hear them every morning in NYC
It took me 2 days to finally figure out what this bird was! I live in north central Maryland & hike a lot with friends. I’m a nature nerd but not a bird expert. We’ve been puzzling over what was making this beautiful song. Thanks for the excellent video!
This is my favorite sparrow because of its beautiful song
Thank you for this video. I just spent about an hour trying to figure out the bird behind the beautiful call I hear every morning out in the field and your video finally gave me the answer! Goodness they're beautiful.
I only hear this sweet song in the alpine zone of my beloved White Mountains. When I ache for the mountains I think of this song. When I reach the high peaks and hear this beautiful call, my heart takes flight and I feel home.
OMG thank you so much for this!!!! I've been trying to figure out who our new whistling visitors were this year. Their song is so precise and sharp; it's hypnotic and beautiful. We have so many different kinds I just listen to them in the early mornings. Never knew this little beauty even existed.
my favorite song
Me too
Thanks for watching
Thank you very much, and I'm so glad that you noticed the little clip at the end of me asking my little friend 'Whitey' if he wanted a peanut. He's a great sparrow, a very smart one. Hope you have a wonderful Sunday.
I find it amazing that such a small bird is as loud as he/she is.
they*
I love them so much..So pretty with such beautiful songs.

I live in Connecticut and hear this sound everyday outside my bedroom. So I looked it up. Lol. It's so beautiful.
what a great cheery fellow
Beautiful song and beautiful sparrow!❤️
One of my favorite bird calls ❤
I love how it chirps without opening its beak! The 🎶 of this little creature just made my day much better! Thank you for posting this!
Thank you, Jo.
Here in Canada the mnemonic is ' Oh sweet Canada Canada, Canada" or " My sweet Canada, Canada, Canada" there are different ones. The boreal forests would feel dead and empty without their memorable song.
I've lived in OK for 12 years and have searched high n low trying to identify this bird! Thank you, my search is over! In our woods, it carries the long tones like at 0:36-50. I've nick named it the "squeaky chair" bird!
I heard this before the sun came up in rural Michigan. Such a magnificent song!!! Awesome little bird.
Like many people in this comment section, I heard this bird in a song I liked and I work outside and heard him almost everywhere in NJ but hours of listening to bird calls on RUclips never helped. Finally I found this little guy. Thank you
THANK YOU…. THANK YOU!!! I too have wanted to know who was making this sweet song in my backyard!!!! They are still here in Memphis Tennessee on this 6th day on Apri and are feasting everyday on my ground food!! I’m going to miss them when they leave! I have a stick bramble they love to hang out and play! We had to have some trees cut down and so with the smaller sticks we made a bramble habitat!
I know this has been on RUclips for a long time, but thank you for this and I love that I get to see them make all their calls. I have a little white Lotus sparrow outside my house that calls every morning and I hear this and then when I go to work around 9 o’clock, I get two different variations and they’re so distinct like you cannot it’s so so nice to put a face to the music
I finally found the singer of this awesome song! It's been driving me nuts!
Every time I ventured into the forest of northern Alberta I would hear this song never knowing what kind of bird it was. Thank you Lesley for posting this. Now that I live in Queensland I can listen to a whole new range of birds. Magpies are my favourite.
Very typical and pleasant sound of bird between 0:45 and 01:05. Thanks for providing video.
i love the little descending melody they do. its so simple and sweet
My absolute favorite songbird. I put birdseed outside on my window ledge for them, so far I've attracted a woodpecker, several sparrows, cardinals (both male and female), and a bluebird (who doesn't like sharing with anyone else). I also get squirrels, which I don't mind at all as long as they aren't destructive to the house/property...I had one that somehow learned to climb up the screen of my window to get my attention when the supply of seed ran out.
Most precious little song I’ve ever heard!
Everytime I camp in Algonquin Park, these little guys are the first thing I hear in the morning. Great way to start the day 🙂
Yes I think this is the bird I was whistling to in my backyard last time. Haha 😄
Love this call so much!
wonderful !!!!!
Ah-ha! So that's the cute little face that's been singing in my backyard for years. ❤
same here. My spring mornings are always filled with this song . I was looking all the time who could that be. Thank you so much for educating us!. and sharing the video.
I heard this bird call the other morning. It is a beautiful song. Now I know who it belongs too.
One of my most favorite!
This is a great video. Thanks for uploading.
This little guy creates my favorite bird song. Beautiful video!
Thanks, Bob!
Yeah, they dwell on the eastern side and southern locations of the U.S during the winter months, and in summer they breed across much of Canada. Their song truly is unforgettable and many claim it to be the anthem of the Boreal forests.
Beautiful voice and what a little performer. I can almost envision this little one on stage standing so upright and bellowing out these tunes before an audience. Thanks so much Lesley! I'll never forget the songs of the White-throated sparrow now.
I don't know what it is but i can not help but smile when i hear them sing. Everytime no matter what mood i am in. I could be drowning in the ocean. If i heard this bird sing as i was taking my last breath. My last facial expression would be a huge smile. I dont know what it is but out of all the different kinds of birds i feed. I find the white throated sparrow to be the most gentle and sweetess out of them all. Even though they resemble the bird i can not stand. Those bib wearing non native house sparrows or what ever they are called.
There’s one of these outside my window and his song sounds JUST like “the good the bad and the ugly”
I've been searching all over youtube to find what bird makes this beautiful sound and I finally found it! Thanks so much!
This is the birdsong I have associated since I was a kid with our family country house in the Laurentians, north of Montreal. I only found out recently that it was this sparrow! Beautiful...
I had one of these sweet little birds sing every so often while living in Florida. The tone of that particular bird was so breathtakingly beautiful, it brought me close to tears. Every time I heard it I would stop what I'm doing just to soak in the song. That sparrow's song was the audible manifestation of pure love. It was that beautiful!
this is such a beautiful sound
I keep hearing this bird outside my window every morning, never knew what bird it was, thanks! 🙏❤️
I hear this bird all the time here in Hampton Roads, VA. It's my favorite bird sound 🥰
It's nice when people have a favorite bird song. And, yeah, this is a nice one.
Lovely video of a lovely bird
Always wondered which bird made that sound until one day i was walking the dog in the bush and saw this little bird 5 feet from me. I sat there admiring it and it made the call...cool to see.
I love these guys so much
What a beautiful bird & the sound that they make. How can anyone say there isn't a God!
Lovely video - thanks so much for posting!
Thank you very much for watching and for the nice comment.
What a lovely plump little baby! Great capture!
Thank you, this is fantastic ! I have a lot of different sparrows at the feeder and love them all.
this bird makes me so happy every morning and evening, thanks so much for helping me figure this mystery out!
Thank you so much. Excellent
I live in the UP of Michigan by the woods. We here these every summer and I can whistle one of the calls. When I got home from school during the winter I noticed they weren't there and thought they were migratory, which was correct, and was a bit sad. But a few days ago I finally got a response to my whistles after trying for a week! I'm so happy they're back!
What beautiful birds and songs coming from them.
oh i love it!!!!! thank you
Reminds me of being at my grandparent's cabin, always loved hearing this call :)
I just heard this bird song for the first time in Hammond, Indiana!
Sounds like the first part of here comes the bride lol...it's beautiful, good job with the video.
can't get enough of this Exquisite video
the great horned owl sound is something else
THANK YOU FOR SHARING this video. This has been my favorite bird since as far back as I can remember and now I know what it is. Really means a lot to me.
You are very welcome, Joe :) And this bird has been my favorite as far back as I can remember, too, it's an awesome little sparrow. Love them.
This is the most beautiful bird call in the world.
I would say they are our most common sparrow of the winter months. When it gets to be April or early May they move on out, but we get treated to their song during migration. They are so tuneful!
I've been hearing this call a lot recently, and I had no idea which bird. I saw a white sparrow this morning and I thought it was him singing this tune. Thank you.
I’ve used to hear that call a lot when I was waiting for the bus when I was a kid. I was searching for the bird who made it. It really sounded like a chikadee mating call, but with two additional notes. Found him!
Now I know who's singing that song. Thanks.
Amazing video and audio, thank you.
You're welcome, glad you enjoyed it. Thank you for watching and leaving a nice comment.
thanks, love this northern bird.. its like a trumpet call.
Love these birds. They have such a pretty song:)
So this is the culprit that singing outside my job . They also just returned from migrating & are in my backyard. Wonderful stuff man just wonderful !
My favorite bird song. In Minnesota it means Winter is over. Sometimes it is Low High High High High. Sometimes it's High Low Low Low Low. I haven't figured out when they sing which song but I love it either way.
Great video! Beautiful close ups! And the sound is so relaxing, wish they came around here this year.
Adam Cary Thank you, really happy that you enjoyed the video. White-throated sparrows have one of the most lovely songs, at least to my mind anyway. Very relaxing
+LesleytheBirdNerd I think so too! Just heard one calling, and went on line to find a recording to send to a friend, to share what I can hear. Found your video. It's perfect, thank you!
We had a cottage when I was a kid ... loved hearing this bird
I love hearing them early in the morning and when biking on the country roads ❤
great job with the footage!! beautiful sparrow!! I hear a lot of these birds in the Chicago suburb area every morning!
Thank you!
They are beautiful and their song is a lovely one to hear in the early morning!
I've heard this a few times before, and sometimes it almost matches "Hot Cross Buns" that every beginner musician learns. It struck me as the only bird that literally makes musical notes, and I finally learned which bird it is!
On of my favourite birds. I haven't heard some of these calls before. You done a great job capturing them. Such a sweet looking little creature. :)
I live in central Minnesota and never heard this heavenly bird until camping this year at the Intl Peace Garden, on the North Dakota-Canada border. Instantly it became my favorite bird. Recorded its wonderful song on my phone and listen to it almost every day. Thanks for this great video!
