    Interested in trying to paddle board again. First time I tried was in the Bahamas and I was struggling to stand and kept falling off immediately. I’m a big guy and it was exhausting but still fun even though I was failing. I couldn’t get back on it myself so I kept swimming back to shore. At one point a guy in a boat asked if I needed help 😅

    • @PaddleAdventurer
      @PaddleAdventurer  9 месяцев назад

      You absolutely should try it again!
      The board you used in the Bahamas might have been too small for you if you kept falling off, especially if you are a bigger person plus the resort board was likely not the best.
      I love that you kept trying and hopefully were having fun!
      Finding a rental board that's 32" wide and closer to or over 11 will help give you more stability and volume.
      Finding a company that gives lessons or tours would also be helpful!

    I never thought of doing a rope thingy as I struggle to get back on the board if I don't have something solid under my feet. I started last summer in the UK. I will be paddle boarding Saturday so will definitely try the rope🙂 thanks for sharing xx

    • @PaddleAdventurer
      @PaddleAdventurer  7 месяцев назад +1

      Yes! It's a super important skill and great to practice.
      You can also tie the rope/strap to your handle and back of your board and use it to grab and get leverage when climbing on from the rear.
      And you don't necessarily have to have it on your board either, you can keep it in your PFD and pull it out and use it when you're struggling.
      If you aren't using the rope, remember to kick your legs out straight behind you.
      Let me know how it goes on Saturday!

      Absolutely! You can also use the rope to get on from the tail of the board. Either as a stirrup or to use as leverage by pulling.

    Thanks a lot for your full video and your advices. I started paddling this June in Germany - Ostsee and beeing overweighted I got really problems getting back on the board. Back home I'm practicing on a calm lake. I put 2 new d-rings on the board and fastened two small ropes left and right along the sides of the board to pull me back from the tail, but the range is too small. Next idea was a rope on the middle handle to pull me back on from the tail. But it was a little bit too short. Both worked, but after few times I got tired. With last try I got an adductor strain and had to stop trying. I hope my adductor is now fine again, I will try this weekend with the stirrup. I Think I will use a (transportation) belt instead of a rope, because the rope is not comfortable while paddling in sitting position as kajaking. I will try all methods, because it's important to get back on the board in each situation, even the shore is far away. SUP is an amazing sport and I want to feel safe without fear. Thanks and greetings, I hope my English is not too bad. I could not comment the long video, so I commented this short. 😊 Greeting, Susi

      Thanks for watching and commenting, Susi.
      It sounds like you are a problem solver and have a great attitude to keep trying but know your own limits. ❤️
      You can also tie a strap/rope from the middle handle to the tail handle or d-ring on your board to use as leverage when getting on from the rear. It's easier to slide the board under you when you get on from the rear.
      Let me know how it goes for you and what you find works best!
      You got this!

      Here now my experiences during the last two weeks:
      Last weekend, yesterday and today I continued SUP on my favorite lake. Especially I practiced getting back on the board. I put a Transport strap (such one with normally a ratchet, but cut off the ratchet) on the middle handle of my board. I used a simple loop, not a node, and made shure that both ends are long enough to grap them from the tail when swimming offside the board. This way it is really simple to pull myself back onto tho board, even in deep water and even with life jacket. Because of the two straps I have a good freedom of movement and can pull my arms apart. If necessary I can wrap the straps around my hands. The Transport strap is quite thin and does not disturb while sitting or standing on the board, but it does not cut in the hands or cause pain.
      Nevertheless I also practiced getting on from the side of the board. Wenn my legs get pulled under the board I push the board away to get my legs behind me, grab the handle and the opposite side of the board and kick with my feet and pull me on. I'm afraid it really does not look very elegant, but it works, even with a life jacket. Each time I was paddling I tried both variants. Now I'm sure it works without problems. It gives me a good feeling of security so I can stay relaxed while paddling.
      Last week my board lost air from the valve. I just recognized it because of the noise the air made while bubbling off during the water around the valve. If there had not been water on the board and around the valve because of my tries getting on I probably would not have heared it. I did not want to stop SUP, so I permanently stayed in swimming distance to the shore. After 3 hours on the water I still remembered no problems with the pressure. At home I fastened the valve with the Plastik valve key, now the valve ist close again. Since that I splash some water on the valve each time I enter the water to make sure there are no bubbles and the valve is close.
      Today there was a lot of Wind (up to 26 kmh) an waves on the lake. It remembered me a little bit to Ostsee in June. It was a Hard Job to Deal with it, but I stayed on the board. It was a lot of fun and a great training to keep Balance. I'm getting a little bit better each time and I'm a little bit proud of it. I'm really glad I found this Sport for me. Unfortunately the summer in Germany will end soon. Lets see how long I can do this sport during autumn using my short Neo suite.
      Greetings to All.

    I will need to work on this. Haven't paddleboarded since last September with an instructor on this specifically. Using Carabiner and leash. Unfortunately seems I overstrained and damaged my phrenic nerve which controls the diaphragm. I became breathless a couple of days later. Though there was no pain. So now due to have surgery on the diaphragm shortly at Royal Papworth hospital but it's a bit drastic. Once I've recovered I'll be back on the board. The stirrup method looks promising for me. I think I did too much pulling on the leash!

    • @PaddleAdventurer
      @PaddleAdventurer  5 месяцев назад

      I hope you are able to recovery and get back out on the water. You might also find getting on from the side or rear of the board with more kicking vs pulling. I find i use my legs more when getting on from the side but that does require hip mobility. Getting on from the rear you are doing less pulling and using your arms and body weight to push the board down and under you.
      I hope these techniques help you find the best way for you!

      Actually on reflection maybe I was using the leash the wrong way and pulling more than pushing board down and getting arms on. But I do remember having trouble to kick legs up. I was wearing buoyancy aid that was probably riding up a bit. I bought from Decathlon and it doesn't have a zip to close , and does tend to ride up. Inst 5:10 ructor was going to recommend a more suitable one. Aiming to get back on next season!

    • @PaddleAdventurer

      Leashes are used to keep your board with you if you fall off.
      Remember to keep your legs straight out behind you.
      PFDs are important to wear but do add an extra layer. Always important to try different ways with your equipment on. You can absolutely do this! 🙌🏼

    Ive been paddling for a few years and have fallen off few times in deep water and gotten back In always . Today in the ocean, pretty near the shore (but still deep) after paddling for hours i fallen off. The leash got out somehow too. The water was much colder than my body temperature and I got the sudden shock and lost energy to pull back, tried few times and failed - panic kicked in (slightly) - I don’t know, but my instincts made me use the board and paddle with my legs to the push to the shallow waters. Thats definitely an option too, but a last resort.

    Thank you so much for making this video! I especially like the stirrup idea. It was also very helpful to have a female instructing the video -- and in the water -- as opposed to the men's videos where they have larger muscles, and smaller butts, guts, and "coconuts" that prevent us women from getting on the board easier. I fell off my board for the first time today and I panicked because I couldn't get back on. Luckily I was maybe 15 ft from shore and there were no people on the beach that saw me fall off. I banged up my knee a bit but now I know I REALLY need to practice these moves. Thanks again! This video was great and I'm sure I will reference it again!

    • @PaddleAdventurer
      @PaddleAdventurer  7 месяцев назад +1

      Thanks for watching and commenting. ❤️ I'm so glad to hear it was helpful! lol "coconuts"!
      You can also use a strap or rope and tie a line between your front and your back handle. This will help give you leverage when pulling and getting back on from the back of the board.
      100% an important thing to practice as everyone is different and your equipment will also come into plan.
      Once you get confidence getting back on falling can be lots of fun. Check out this fun and cheesy video I made with my brother: ruclips.net/video/crzEH_BfpkY/видео.htmlsi=MTeGOEQk7APb1naO
