After the Napoleonic invasion of Spain, many South American countries (including my country, Chile) formed government juntas to rule on King Ferdinand VII's behalf while he was imprisoned, this is considered by many of these countries as their first act of independence.
2:17 as shortlived as the Spanish claims over the territory of Nutca (modern day Washington, Oregon, British Columbia and southern Alaska) it's incredible how in 1790 you could start an enormous trip through the entire American continent starting at the gates of Antarctica in the southernmost tip of Chile all the way to Alaska speaking nothing but Spanish at the European settlements, except on the main territory of Alaska, just until then you would switch to Russian.

Very good! I would just add that separating from Spain is not something most Spanish Americans wanted or would have wanted had it not been for the Napoleonic invasion. Also, many Spanish Americans never were on board with independence, and many more opposed it after it was gained due to the massive amounts of lives lost infighting. Also, important to note that independence came from a particularly more radical segment of the upper class that was acting out of opportunism. It was hard to fight back the small rebellions when troops and money were lacking precisely because of French control.
@Alvaro Moran Literally the Mexican war of independence was the bloodiest of all the other wars combined New Spain wasn’t a “consentido” of Spain, it was where most of its wealth came from, that’s why they try to invade again after mexico was free but got wrecked again.

In fact, the Spanish were pioneers in the subject of Human Rights with persons like Fray Bartolomé de las Casas and laws like "Las Leyes de Indias" (The laws of the Indies), respecting the languages and cultures of the native american people they encountered, paying them in exchange of labour, educating them in sciences, opening universities (being the only colonial power that did this in America until the 19th century), and educating and culturing the people they encountered along the way to the Spanish form of life. The Spanish Empire shouldn't be considered a "colonial" one in the same way that the British is considered one, being that Spain greatly developed the lands it conquered. The definitive proof for this is that in South America the natives still enjoy their original homes and in North America, they live in reservations. It was an Empire in the sense that the Roman was one, a civilizing force that looked forward to mix its culture with the ones it encountered.
How about the millions of natives killed and forced to work as slaves? why there aren’t any natives in the Caribbean? Why there aren’t any natives in Argentina and Uruguay? Spain failed to conquer the lands where there weren’t Indigenous civilizations, they couldn’t even populate those areas. Also the casta system was a racial colonial system that put Spanish on top American born Spanish next and then all the mixed people, natives and African slaves at the bottom, couldn’t attend school or occupy an important role in the government
@@19ars92 In the Spanish colonies, slavery wasn't an institition of the crown but rather one of the creoles and it was common that the slaveowners would free their slaves in their will. In fact, by 1802, 18% of the population of the caribbean spanish colonies were ex-slaves. Now, to the question of why there arent natives un Argentina or Uruguay, let me put you the example of México, as I think that the same probably happened. In the moment of its independence in 1821, natives represented 70% of the population. 10 years later, in 1831, that number had plunged to just 10%. It was the creoles, the landowners that remained after Spain had gone the ones that truly used native slaves, killed them or took them out of their lands by force.
@@19ars92 In regards to the casta system, what did you expect from an Empire that died in the 19th century after centuries of conquest? Did you expect modern ethics? Please, remember that it is important to analyze history from the point of view of the people you are studying, not from your modern point of view. Are the romans less important just because they had slaves? Should we forget the inventions of ancient greeks just because they had slaves? I dont think so.
@@vilhelmvonastrea8268 lol the irony of your first comment is that even til this day Spaniards still suffer from human rights violations by the Spanish Monarchy. In Mexico there has never been an accurate racial census, yes spaniards born in Mexico continued to enslaved natives, just like the Spaniards born in the Caribbean kept on dealing with African slaves, they learn that from the peninsulares, don't try to make it seem as they were the ones with the idea of gold and silver as their only God. and speaking of God and Mexico, the introduction of religion went through 2 ways of convertion, by force and punishment, and by understanding the natives and trying to persuade them by acts of compassion, guess which method was mostly used?
@@19ars92 As I said, natives were not slaves until Spain had been expulsed from América and yes, there were black slaves, but having them as such was prohibited by law. Quite probably, it was the american independists the ones that gave spanish creoles the idea of widespread slavery.
I think you missed some further reasoning behind the libertadores: the rich upper colonial class who wanted to keep their power in the colonies while the liberal goverment in Spain with French revolutionary pro-equality ideas supposed a big danger. This explain why few families remained in power in most of Latam countries until today and the huge inequality. Many indigenous leaders aligned themselves with the crown actually (since the Catholic monarch they were guarantors of racial equality even if the kings weren't able to enforce this at all). Regarding not investing in the colonies, Spain invested a lot on universities, hospitals and churches, arguably way over than any of the other colonial powers.
@@nunyabiznes33 Spain built 2,000 stone cities in America with all services, 25 universities, 28 collages. 130 cathedrals, 250 fortresses, thousands of hospitals and children's schools, bringing the Renaissance, the Baroque and the Enlightenment everywhere, in addition to creating a mestizo society. That was made possible by reinvesting 70% of America's wealth (80% in XVIII century). Mexico and Peru produce more gold and silver every year of the 21st century than the Spanish empire in 100 years. For whom was all that civilization, now Western, completed by the independent republics? In 1800 only between 1.5 million and 2 million Spaniards had traveled to America. There were 60 million Americans. Other empires took almost everything to London and Amsterdam until the 20th century, hardly investing in the people.
Dude. Natives were able to fight back. The Aztecs and The Inca where not nations. They were empires that had conquered kingdoms, confederations and other empires. Those conquests were done throught bloody wars. When the Spanish arrived, everybody that hated the Aztecs and the Inca, rallied around them. Francisco Pizarro even married a Inca Princess named Quispe Sisa. These empires were defeated throught battles fought mostly by amerindian armies that supported the conquistadores. The ridiculous, racist lie, that a couple hundred men took down masive empires with crappy fire weapons (arcabuces) and swords is just insane.

Why did the Spanish empire end earlier? The only thing that happened is that the Spanish empire began 100 years earlier than France and England, in 1492. Although Castile began the world empire in 1404 (Canary Islands), and Aragon in 1282 (Sicily and later Athens) England and France had very slow developing empires, and with very little investment until the end of the 19th century, only to lose everything in 1948. Before England made the first city in America, of wood, in 1607, Spain had made 700 cities of stone in America, and 10 universities there, and we had made the first world globalization, the discovery of three continents, the first return to the world, the Asian market revolution, the annexation of the Portuguese empire, the golden age of culture, participation in the Renaissance, the first patented steam engines, liberalism, the first international human rights, the current calendar, and the Spanish hegemony in Europe, invading Rome, Paris, Amsterdam, Lisbon, Brussels, Venice, Germany ... putting a Spanish king in Germany, a Spanish king in England and Ireland, capturing the French king, and making a NATO in Italy, which it is full of Spanish palaces, fortresses, universities and infrastructures. But Spain had hegemony in Europe until 1648, the largest empire in Western Europe until 1759, and the largest in the world until 1820. England / UK never had an empire in Europe: it cannot lose what it never had. Napoleon's empire lasted 20 years and disappeared, but it never controlled the world simultaneously, like Spain. Hitler lasted 13 years and lost everything. The United Kingdom and France (6th-7th power) are now in the period of decadence of the Spanish empire between 1825-1898, when Spain still had land on the 5 continents and was 6th or 7th world power, due to the imperial inertia of the previous centuries . When the imperial inertia ends, the countries become equal in GDP, and in military power, as will happen in 2050. That is the only thing to understand, to explain why the Spanish empire ended earlier. It started long before. Like Rome, which started earlier. Although officially the Spanish empire ends in 1975, because during the 20th century, Spain had Equatorial Guinea, Western Sahara and the RIF (northern Morocco) 693 years. Roma 713 years.

The Bourbons were much more effective than people think. In the 18th century Spain recovered from the wars of the 16th-17th centuries, which saved the Catholic religion in Europe. Spain recovered Italy in 1734, defeating the Austrian Empire. The Spanish economy knew a time of prosperity. The cities were embellished, science and literature were promoted with many academies. The empire spread across Louisiana, Florida (recovered), the Great Plains, Alaska, Uruguay, Equatorial Guinea and the archipelagos of the Pacific Ocean, and we controlled the British, defeating them in epic battles, such as Cartagena de Indias 1741, Puerto Rico and Tenerife in 1797 , the war of independence of the United States, with a naval blockade of England (Spain gives the Spanish dollar to the United States, the most important currency for 300 years), Buenos Aires and Montevideo 1806-07, so that they could only take 1 of 400 parts of the Spanish empire in 300 years ( most of that small fraction in the 17th century, not the 18th century). Everything went well until the revolutionary era that created many conflicts, in Spain, in France, in Germany, in Italy, in Russia, linking with communism and world wars and civil war. A hard time when all the absolute monarchies fall and a struggle of the common man begins to satisfy his ambition, which was a logical path of liberalism, but with a very bloody transition throughout the world.

FACTS ABOUT SPANISH PHILIPPINES Spanish Manila and Philippines was seen in the 19th century as a model of colonial governance that effectively put the interests of the original inhabitants of the islands before those of the colonial power even they were bankrupted several times in maintaining the Philippines. As John Crawfurd put it in its History of the Indian Archipelago, in all of Asia the "Philippines alone did improve in civilization, wealth, and populousness under the colonial rule" of a foreign power. John Bowring, Governor General of British Hong Kong from 1856 to 1860, wrote after his trip to Manila: "Credit is certainly due to Spain for having bettered the condition of a people who, though comparatively highly civilized, yet being continually distracted by petty wars, had sunk into a disordered and uncultivated state. The inhabitants of these beautiful Islands upon the whole, may well be considered to have lived as comfortably during the last hundred years, protected from all external enemies and governed by mild laws vis-a-vis those from any other tropical country under native or European sway, owing in some measure, to the frequently discussed peculiar (Spanish) circumstances which protect the interests of the natives." In The Inhabitants of the Philippines, Frederick Henry Sawyer wrote: "Until an inept bureaucracy was substituted for the old paternal rule, and the revenue quadrupled by increased taxation, the Filipinos were as happy a community as could be found in any colony. The population greatly multiplied; they lived in competence, if not in affluence; cultivation was extended, and the exports steadily increased. [...] Let us be just; what British, French, or Dutch colony, populated by natives can compare with the Philippines as they were until what 1895?." Asia's oldest and continue modern learning institution was University of Santo Tomas (Dominican, OP), est. 1611. Universidad De San Ignacio (Jesuit, now defunct when Pope suspended Jesuits for brief period of time) est. 1601. University of San Carlos, est. 1595. The Augustinians opened a parochial school in Cebu in 1565. The Franciscans, took to the task of improving literacy in 1577, aside from the teaching of new industrial and agricultural techniques. The Jesuits followed in 1581, as well as the Dominicans in 1587, setting up a school around archipelago. The church and the school cooperated to ensure that Christian villages had schools for students to attend. Schools for boys and for girls were then opened. Colegios were opened for boys, ostensibly the equivalent to present day senior high schools. The Universidad de San Ignacio, founded in Manila by the Jesuits in 1589 was the first colegio. Eventually, it was incorporated into the University of Santo Tomas, College of Medicine and Pharmacology following the suppression of the Jesuits. Girls had two types of schools - the beaterio, a school meant to prepare them for the convent, and another, meant to prepare them for secular womanhood. The Spaniards are the ones who taught the Filipinos to worship the True God (Biblical God). *Jesus was Asian* Christianity made the Filipinos to abandon pagan ways, polygamy, war freak attitude, infanticide and learn temperance, monogamy, resilience and more refined characteristics based from the teachings of Catholic Christianity. Spaniards defeated and ends the warring Hindus, Buddhist, Animist and Islamic chiefdoms all over archipelago and united it into a single governing entity as Spanish East Indies under Spanish Crown. The Spaniards are the ones who taught the Filipinos to eat sardines, made and eat pandesal bread during breakfast, drink coffee and chocolate, to wear modest dress because ancient Filipinos were almost half naked and to watch stage plays. Spanish regime had brought slavery and exploited Philippine resources, but in fairness it brought and taught more civilized way of life to the Filipino people that British, French and Dutch never implemented in their colonies. How successful Spanish are!?. Dude 90% of what you said is a weird version of what really happened. I'm Hispanic and what I've learnt from our sources is: 1. Spain didn't found colonies: During the reign of the Catholic Kings and the Habsburgs, these lands were ruled as viceroyalties, it is, lands that are an extension of the Metropolis, people here were Spanish, and were referred to as "American Spaniards" in the sources from those times, people held positions according to their merits and that included mestizos. Of course, at the time racism was a thing as everywhere in the world but that just shows you how different things worked in the Ultramarine territories of Spain to those of France, Nederlands or Britain. It's important to note that our perception of "Spanish colonies" comes mainly from English sources which were written by the British (cause they had that mindset of labeling everything outside the Metropolis as a colony) and that's based too on the borbonic reforms, which were of absolutist nature. 2). People here didn't ask for independence. It was the richest burgeois and warlords that very often were part of Masonic cells (Bolivar, O'Higgins, San Martín). They had no aim at creating stable Nations to develop the quality of life of our people, and as my teacher used to say at least when I was a kid (15 years ago) the warlords recruited people by threatening them most of the time, as there was not such thing as Chilean, Argentina, Mexican or Colombian identities. It'd be like as if Texas and California gained independence today and then in 200 years people said that Texans and Californians weren't Americans.
San Martín Bolívar and O'Higgins weren't warlords or burgoise, maybe they taught you that cause your spanish. Bolívar wanted a great superpower in America, O'Higgins wanted the best for the chileans and San Martín dreamed of a free America, the three of them freed slaves and made their country happy

San Martín didn't want a free America, he served the British and let them come and take the gold reserves from Buenos Aires after independence to pay for the "independence". He fought the war and then just left, didn't give a sht for his people. Bolivar was a rich boy from an American family. The Spanish Empire was not a colonial empire such as the English, French or Dutch, but on the contrary, it was the last empire of the ancient type, closer to what Rome or Greece were. 300-400 years of domain based on miscegenation, alphabetization and conversion of different peoples; construction of universities, cathedrals and cities worldwide; a huge cultural and artistic explotion; deliberation of new phylisophic, teologic and juridic debates in human history (like f.e., if all humans were equal); discoverments that changed the conception of the world; opening of new shipping routes; creation of an undefeated infantry for 2 centuries; expansion of the Hispanic culture throughout the Atlantic and Pacific ocean (called "the spanish lake" at that time) as Rome did throughout the Mediterranean... All of this, in a world as big as the one we know today, but using a technology from 5 centuries ago. From there onward, european empires had a colonial model based on mercantilism, slavery, and large-scale production, creating factories or plantations in overseas possessions, instead of a civilizing reproduction of their society. The former were a global market, the latter a global kingdom. European empires shouldnt be generalized by the fact of having overseas territories, because not all of them were the same.
I've never seen a video that's speaks about San Martín and Artigas, incredibly important for the indepence of the Viceroyalty of Río de la Plata, this video wasn't the exception.
The rise of Spanish Empire and the fall of Al Andalus is eerily similar to the rise of Ottoman Empire and the fall of Byzantium both suffered defeats in 11th century Byzantines losing Anatolia during Menzikert while Andalusians lost Toledo during the same time. They had their capital taken in 13th century Cordoba and Constantinople by the crusaders. Nasridis went further south while the romans were able to recover their city. However the most important battle came in 15th century which was a victory for the Ottomans and Spanish. Coincidentally both Spanish and Ottomans declined around the time and their main enemies would turn out to be Russia and US who would go on to have their own rivaley.
Not to mention the rivalry this two nations had. And it was Spanish gold and silver that would finance many of the campaigns and defenses of Christian Europe from further Ottoman expansion into Europe. Hence as he mentioned Spain getting involved in many wars. They do seem like each others inverse as Spain was kicking out Muslims in Western Europe and Expanding the Catholic faith into it. Ottomans were doing the opposite in Eastern Europe.
@@cesarcastillo7872 Ottoman Empire were far more tolerant actually this is why most of Balkans is Christian. @@ahrlj24 well I am not talking about the people themselves but like government rule. Like Spain taking Granada the last of the Muslim kingdoms in Iberia. And how the Ottoman Empire took over the Balkans and they were no longer Christian Kingdoms. Mostly talk about that cause historically forced conversions almost never work. And while the Ottomans did allow Christians and other religions to keep on practicing on paper they were seen as second class citizens. And had to pay more taxes as well.
@@cesarcastillo7872 Yes of course but they were treated like how French treated Muslim Algerians after their conquest of Algeria. They settled French citizens in Algeria. But still Ottomans were far more tolerant than Spain.
@@ahrlj24 IDK it is a bit different though geopolitical speaking. I mean yes were the ottomans a little more tolerant. Well yes kind of but only cause they could not offered to be intolerant as having such a diverse multi ethnic empire would have instantly collapsed. Cause in Spain and Iberia was already majority Christian. Even before the reconquista and many of the many Muslims were probably on some point Christian so it isn't that big of a leep to convert back to Christianity. So Spain could offered to be religiously homogeneous was a strength to them as homogeneous populations tend to fight less with each other and revolt less. While the Ottoman empire was a lot more different it simply could not offered the same policies the Spanish had. If it could it would have for the same reasons I mentioned above. But in since the Ottomans expanded into Christian lands that have never been Muslim the conversion process would have been a lot harder. So in the end like I said the Ottomans were only more tolerant cause they had to. Simply speaking while this countries did share some similarities or inverses they have a completely different geopolitical goals, motivations, and objectives. That I thought your comment was just a joke but it has carried into a very serious conversation. And I don't want to deal with something serious right now so good day.

when the protestant reformation happened it encouraged people to read the bible resulting the rise in literacy in some places up to 80 percents while catholic countries had little than 20 percent and the lack of a Merchant class in spain and also lacking a population caused them to lag behind quite badly in science and industry
The Bible was read in Spain. It was printed in Spanish in 1569. You need to stop letting the Black legend lead you it's 2020 for Christ's sake. Also, their was a merchant class in Spain,my god. Where were you educated? Spain had a merchant class,in fact there was a revolt over using the merchant class sailors and ships in wars LOL. In Spain most nobles saw it beneath them to be merchants unlike some other nations. But there were merchants none the less. How do you explain Spanish trading companies equivalent to the East India company? Wow.

Spain also lost the equivalent of trillions of dollars by damages caused by the British Pirates all over the ocean and colonies. Also Spain fought The Muslims for 3 centuries, stopping them from taking over European territories. They went to Eastern Europe instead, to avoid fighting The Spanish. Those wars of 300 years plus cost Spain trillions of dollars in todays money.
A bit late to this, I know buuut: the colonies in the Americas actually never really made Spain "rich". It's a very common misconception that Spain got rich, though trade from the Americas. As perfectly collected, trough years of different authors, in galleanos "Las venas abiertas de latinoamerica" (the open veins of latinamerica) the exported silver mostly ended up in the hands of other european powers, whilst the industrialization was consciously being held back by the spanish royalty, to the point where most of the raw exports from latinamerica ended up in dutch or British manufactures, just to buy the finished products back from them. It was a losing game, bound to not end well for the spanish. And I *know* Spain might have not been regarded as a global power at some point, without the americas AND it just seems very obvious looking at a map, that they must have been powerful and rich, it is in fact not really the case, so the fall of the empire was inevitable.
The Spanish world expansion began 100 or 200 years before than other powers. It is logical that it ended before, as Rome ended before. But it ended because we made a Western society in America, and they had the same culture and technology as Spain. It is the same case as the 13 colonies against the British. They had a university and knew their rights. The Spanish empire made 2,000 stone cities, 25 universities, 28 colleges, 130 cathedrals, thousands of hospitals and nursery schools in America, bringing the Renaissance, the Baroque and the Enlightenment everywhere. The supposed success of the British and Dutch empire until the 20th century was based on not giving culture to the people of Africa, Indonesia and India, and taking everything to London and Amsterdam. But don't forget that Spain had an empire in Europe, which those countries never had. The Spanish empire was much more than America, with immense power in Europe and political, social and cultural innovations that other empires could not do, not even the British. Spain had the most important currency in the world for 300 years (1500-1800), mother of the currency of the United States, China, Japan, the Philippines, Hong Kong (1842) and 30 other countries. I very much doubt that British and Dutch manufactures meant that much. China also sells trinkets all over the world, and makes a lot of money, but has no power in Europe or America. They are different things. If we had kept the 70% of reinvestment that we made in America and the Philippines (80% in the 18th century) we would also be very rich now. But Hispanic America has 90% of mother Spanish speakers. 99% speak Spanish. 85% Catholic. Commonwealth has 10% native English speakers. 10% cristian, now. 50 years later, the British and French empires dissolved like sugar cubes.

Liked the video but as you said a loong long video is needed to describe the whole complex reality that took place at the end of the 19th century. Take into account that the Spanish did a great job for almost 300 years ! Which is a lot! However the image you give as a chicken running arround with no head in the late 1700's is interesting and real. With no king after Napoleon Kidnaped him and a "Junta" rulling from Sevilla, everything started to fall apart, not because anyone wanted desperatelly to be independent but because they saw an opportunity to do their own business without having to send everything to the King...as there was no king. Something else. The US is not a "we do not want empires" is better to put this way: " we do not want empires, but ours" a diferent kind of ruled empire but empire nevertheless. It won't last 300 years though. As all the empires (Roman or Persian you name them) they reach a climax and then decline. The American declining has already started. The empire has been short in fact in terms of history.
It think main reason spain felt is because they could industrialized. They didn't industrialized because they didn't urbanized. They couldn't urbanized because they got rid of all their Jewish and Muslim population that was highly urbanized.
Spain was highly urbanized. We have the third artistic world heritage, after China and Italy (almost all Romanesque, Renaissance, Baroque, classicism). Even the Spanish empire was highly urbanized (much more so than the British, which in 1800 had only a few small towns in Canada and Australia, less than half a million people). Spain Empire had more than 20 million urbanized people in 1800, because for more than 300 years we created in the world (America, the Philippines and Italy) 40 universities, 30 colleges, 2350 stone cities, 900 hospitals, 300 fortresses, 140 cathedrals, thousands of churches, thousands of nursery schools, highways, ports, bridges. In addition, we had a shipbuilding industry, a mining industry, a building construction industry, an arms industry, a textile industry... The problem and the virtue of Spain is that we reinvested 70% of America's wealth in America and the Philippines (80% in the 18th century), while empires such as the British, French and Dutch took home more than 80 % of the wealth of their empires. That is why Africa, India, Indonesia, were and are very poor. They did not invest in those people, they invested in the industry of Europe. The Commonwealth has less than 10% native English speakers (English has been reintroduced by US influence after WW2, as a learned language) and less than 10% Christians (almost all in Australia, Canada and the UK, who are already Christianized and prosperous Europeans, like the Spanish empire in Europe: Italy, France, Germany, the Netherlands...) Hispanic America has 90% Spanish speakers. 99% speak Spanish. 85% Catholic. Even the Philippines is 85% Catholic. British India 2% cristians
Hmmm let me correct a mistake you did: Spanish is not the third most widely spoken romance language, it is the first: the Americas are populated by more than 300 million Spanish speakers, more than double french or Italian speakers, especially Italy, that has no (Ex )-colonies (in Libya Italian is nonexistent). Also, the top 3 languages spoken are English, Spanish, and Chinese. No way Russian has more speakers than Spanish, I don´t know where you got that one.

Spanish influence still exists in the Philippines in terms of Language, Culture, Tradition, and Religion
@@vilhelmvonastrea8268
lol the irony of your first comment is that even til this day Spaniards still suffer from human rights violations by the Spanish Monarchy.

Why did the Spanish empire end earlier?
The only thing that happened is that the Spanish empire began 100 years earlier than France and England, in 1492. Although Castile began the world empire in 1404 (Canary Islands), and Aragon in 1282 (Sicily and later Athens)
England and France had very slow developing empires, and with very little investment until the end of the 19th century, only to lose everything in 1948.

FACTS ABOUT SPANISH PHILIPPINES
Spanish Manila and Philippines was seen in the 19th century as a model of colonial governance that effectively put the interests of the original inhabitants of the islands before those of the colonial power even they were bankrupted several times in maintaining the Philippines. As John Crawfurd put it in its History of the Indian Archipelago, in all of Asia the "Philippines alone did improve in civilization, wealth, and populousness under the colonial rule" of a foreign power. John Bowring, Governor General of British Hong Kong from 1856 to 1860, wrote after his trip to Manila:
"Credit is certainly due to Spain for having bettered the condition of a people who, though comparatively highly civilized, yet being continually distracted by petty wars, had sunk into a disordered and uncultivated state.
The inhabitants of these beautiful Islands upon the whole, may well be considered to have lived as comfortably during the last hundred years, protected from all external enemies and governed by mild laws vis-a-vis those from any other tropical country under native or European sway, owing in some measure, to the frequently discussed peculiar (Spanish) circumstances which protect the interests of the natives."
In The Inhabitants of the Philippines, Frederick Henry Sawyer wrote:
"Until an inept bureaucracy was substituted for the old paternal rule, and the revenue quadrupled by increased taxation, the Filipinos were as happy a community as could be found in any colony. The population greatly multiplied; they lived in competence, if not in affluence; cultivation was extended, and the exports steadily increased. [...] Let us be just; what British, French, or Dutch colony, populated by natives can compare with the Philippines as they were until what 1895?."
Asia's oldest and continue modern learning institution was University of Santo Tomas (Dominican, OP), est.
*Jesus was Asian*
Christianity made the Filipinos to abandon pagan ways, polygamy, war freak attitude, infanticide and learn temperance, monogamy, resilience and more refined characteristics based from the teachings of Catholic Christianity.
By late 1900s, Philippines is the only majority Christian nation in Asia, 95% Catholics that practiced Hispanic culture, speaking Castillian Spanish as lingua franca long before Ethnic Tagalog dialect and English implemented in schools after Americans banned Spanish in 1901.

HE SAID IN GERMANYYYYYYY
Dude 90% of what you said is a weird version of what really happened. I'm Hispanic and what I've learnt from our sources is:
@@guidofurman6545 hahahaha dude, O'Higgins was expulsed from Chile cause he was a tyrant, he didn't ever pursued the best for our people and then stayed in Peru for the rest of his life as an exile, nobody wanted him back, he even killed one of the most honorable heroes of our country, Manuel Rodríguez.
San Martín didn't want a free America, he served the British and let them come and take the gold reserves from Buenos Aires after independence to pay for the "independence". He fought the war and then just left, didn't give a sht for his people.
Bolivar was a rich boy from an American family. He didn't want to turn us into a superpower, Spain was already a superpower at the time, he was just eager for power, he despised our peoples, hated the natives, wrote about the equatorians and how he hated them, he's still hated today in Peru.
And dude... People from the Spanish viceroyalties weren't slaves, it was illegal to make someone from these lands a slave, only blacks and Asians were still being used as slave labour in some countries as they weren't native to these lands.
And I'm not "Spanish" I said I'm Hispanic

It was an imperialistic power. Spain along with Portugal literally started imperialism.

The rise of Spanish Empire and the fall of Al Andalus is eerily similar to the rise of Ottoman Empire and the fall of Byzantium both suffered defeats in 11th century Byzantines losing
Anatolia during Menzikert while Andalusians lost Toledo during the same time. They had their capital taken in 13th century Cordoba and Constantinople by the crusaders. Nasridis
went further south while the romans were able to recover their city.
The population of Istanbul before the independence in 1872 was 43%
Christians who were mostly Greeks, they left during the Turkey Greece population exchange. Ottomans would also finance Andalusian Jewish refugees fleeing from
Spain to arrive in Ottoman territory. This also strengthened the empire as their weapons was much more advanced than that of Europe in 15th and 16th century.
Even in Spain while some did flee the country it was just a small minority many stayed and practiced there religion in secret. And while the Ottomans did allow Christians and other religions to keep on practicing on paper they were seen as second class citizens. And had to pay more taxes as well.
@@cesarcastillo7872 Yes of course but they were treated like how French treated Muslim Algerians after their conquest of Algeria. They settled French citizens
in Algeria.
San Martín also made campaigns in America. He liberated Argentina, Chile and Peru.

I enjoyed the video
Hmmm let me correct a mistake you did: Spanish is not the third most widely spoken romance language, it is the first: the Americas are populated by more than 300 million Spanish speakers, more than double french or Italian speakers, especially Italy, that has no (Ex )-colonies (in Libya Italian is nonexistent). Also, the top 3 languages spoken are English, Spanish, and Chinese. No way Russian has more speakers than Spanish, I don´t know where you got that one.
He said in GERMANY. Watch the video.
It's 600 millions of native people actually speaking spanish, mate.
South, Central, and North America. Mexico is North America not central.
It's both: Central and North thanks to Yucatán Península and Chiapas
Jordÿ Cortés Terán the Yucatán península and Chiapas are rarely considered Central America in the modern age, but you bring up a good point. Mexico is most often considered North not central by most scholars.
@@nothanks131 Mexico is been considered by themselves until recently as Central America. 1970's Nixon and 1980's Ronald Reagan convinced USA idiots as "Mexico is part of North America". They did that to bring USA companies to the south part on "Our north america". And to form NAFTA later on. To pay cheap salaries and slavery of workers. That is what Republicans in USA like.

Dam British Pirates for 2 centuries sabotaging, robbing and burning spanish coastal towns and also robbing and burning Spanish ships on the ocean. That produced the equal to trillions of dollars in loses to Spain. Then Napoleon entered as a friend, then invaded Spain in 1808. That was the end of 300 years of Spanish Empire. Then UsA took the rest of the colonies in 1898. Kaput...
Yo ! Anubis arabic has more speakers than french
The Americas is the 3 continents. "America" is the first Nation that adopted that name IN 1776. UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. And fuckk Yeahh,, Murica... LOL..
"Defending the faith from Islam"
How many centuries did they do that for? 200 Centuries...
And it only takes half a century for that to stop as well, I don't think the change in the world that is happening is what's actually good for it.
Ceuta and Melilla aren't colonies
USS Maine: **Sinks**
