I first fell in love with Namiki Maki-e pens, and wanted them all. Then I saw Chinkin, and wanted all of them, as well. But I was never rich, and managed to get only two Namiki Maki-pens. Now I'm old, disabled, and retired, so I will buy no more. But I have those two, andI can see others. Videos like this one make my heart ache. Those who create such pens are true artisans, and the fountain pens they create are works of a Rembrandt or a da Vinci you can hold in your hand and use. There are those who simply put these pens on display, who never fill them with ink and use them. I thing this is an insult to the creator, and to the pen. Many say these pens are two expensive, but that is nonsense. They are unbelievably cheap. Try buying a Rembrandt or a da Vinci, or even a Monet, beautiful works of art that you can only look at, but that cost many millions of dollars. These pens, too, are works of art, and require a talent and a skill level that only a tiny, tiny few possess. Yet compared to many types of art they are dirt cheap, and the artisan is barely rewarded with money. They arte heart-wrenchingly beautiful, and to own such a work of art for only a few thousand dollars is almost as amazing as the pen itself.
I don't know if The Goulet Pen Company will see my comment in 2024, but i just want to say a massive thank you for uploading this immensely fascinating video. 😊 Tom Samad Samad Pen Co.
15:44 "Now what is your impression?" That is absolutely the most beautiful inlay art I've ever seen. It inspires me to live life with intention of true perfection.
I just had an amazing day, I went to the doctors and I noticed that he was using a fountain pen, and I expressed my interest in them, and how I was hesitant to use one because I'm a lefty and that I've never used one before, he offered to let me try it out and of course I took him up on his offer and I went to give it back to him after struggling to use it, he put his hand up and said that I could keep it and to keep practicing. Hes so fucking cool
That's super cool. What kind of pen is it, do you know? And you can definitely still use a fountain pen as a leftie. Check out our blog on the subject with pen/paper/ink recommendations based on your writing style: blog.gouletpens.com/2015/08/fp101-fountain-pens-for-lefties.html - Colin
+The Goulet Pen Company It is a Lamy Safari! Thanks to your very helpful, and interesting, videos I was able to identify it instantly even when just the pocket clip was exposed. And I will certainly be checking out the link, thanks a lot!
+The Goulet Pen Company And another cool thing is that its already filled to the brim with ink and interestingly enough I have no trouble with ink smearing, I'm very pleasantly surprised on how easy it is to use
What an astonishing art, patience, perfection and total devotion. Will get one of these into my collection. It's a lifetime treasure to have. Thank you for the video, even my kids loved it.
This is such a beautiful video. I can't believe it's not getting more likes. I could watch this all day. Thank you @The Goulet Pen Company for bringing this video to your channel.
Although I myself will never buy one of those beautiful pens, even before seeing this video I knew what they were about. Its the artistic and uniqueness of each item. I have the same affinity to modifying cars, guns, and knives, be it custom work or just small changes. It is special, and if done by someone outstanding, like Kramer, or Palos. But this is another level, so much more detail and fine craftsmanship, as hard as it is on just a near flat block, I cannot imagine it on a pen body.
That artwork is so beautiful, it's like a punch to the gut. A wonderful punch to the gut, but a punch to the gut none-the-less. Thank you so much for sharing!
I love this video. Makes you further understand why those pens are thousands of dollars. This also reminds me of when I would watch Bob Ross and pass out because of the calmness of the video I almost fell asleep about four times. Haha
The Goulet Pen Company I completely agree! Such precision could not be adequately explained in even pictures, let alone writing. :) I appreciate you taking the time to reply Colin! Have a nice day!
Awesome video upload. I have been following these pens for about 15 years and knew they were really expensive, now I know why. I have even much greater appreciation for these pens
It's the type of technique you really have to see to believe. We'll have more on the line in a video later today, but this is a good resource to understand these works of art! - Colin
Anyone who would dislike this video is just a little A-hole who will never do anything or be anythi ng, so he has to do things such as dislike a video that others love. It's his way of trying to look important, above other people, when he's really just an insignificant A-hole who may as well lie down and die.
I love the Japanese culture so much. I wish I was born Japanese in Japan but traditional parents in a historical town that specializes in accent art forms.
We do have another video that goes into more detail on the pens (ruclips.net/video/oBcgr_zXT30/видео.html) but doesn't feature writing samples, but they should perform similarly to other high end Pilot pens. - Colin
Not quite sure of all the different songs, but it's mostly stock Japanese Traditional music. If you google "SC-2804 - Japanese Traditional" or "SC-2815 - Japanese Traditional" some should pop up in the Nash Music Library. - Colin
This video is a number of years old, so I don't believe that particular design is readily available anymore. Looking online, it might be the Royal Rooster Yukari from arist Kyosai Yoshida (www.bonhams.com/auctions/20002/lot/290/?category=list ). But I don't see the maki-e box necessarily shown in this video. - Colin
I agree with you about how the yukari moonlight raden is beautiful. I think the reason why they don't showcase it in this video is that it uses inlay techniques, which has a somewhat different process than engraving. I hope Pilot makes a video on the moonlight raden, it definitely deserves it.
Amazing work, a beautifull artstyle and pen that is created with it. That said, even if I had the money to buy one of these pens, I probably would not. It is so expensive/special, that I would just be afraid of accidentally damaging the pen or the artwork on it, and therefore never use it. ;)

I've been coming back to this video a few times a year for the past 6 years. SO good.

The Lamy Safari is an awesome pen, so you got a good one! - Colin
That's so awesome of your doctor to do that.
This video calms my soul for some reason. I have gone back to watch it a few times. Very well done!
Astonishing technique. I have seen this video twice this day already. Wonderful!
You can always count on the Japanese to take things to the extreme, lol. Simply astonishing work.

The Namiki pens truly are just gorgeous! -Margaret
So stunning! Money is being saved up as we speak for these works of art!
They are definitely gorgeous. Lots of growing wishlists! - Colin

The more urushi I do, the more I understand how incredible skill these artists have.
I love your work! Your Instagram is one of my favorites
@@vincentfabrizio2260 thank you ;)
I will have to close my mouth soon! Fantastic
Unbelievable video ! Master Shouji Michikami is still young by then. Sadly he is gone in 2010. I had an owl of him. Masterpiece
Thank you so much for posting this. I am in awe at the skill of these craftsmen and their stunningly beautiful works of art.
That artwork is so beautiful, it's like a punch to the gut. A wonderful punch to the gut, but a punch to the gut none-the-less. Thank you so much for sharing!
Yeah, they'll definitely be "holy grail" pens for some, including me! - Colin
What an amazing technique ! That's wonderful !
This thing is so amazing it blew my mind !!! Just wow !! :)
I felt the same way after watching. It's really a technique you have to see to understand the level of effort involved! - Colin
Unbelievably beautiful and insightful
Absolutely stunning work
I love this video. Makes you further understand why those pens are thousands of dollars. This also reminds me of when I would watch Bob Ross and pass out because of the calmness of the video I almost fell asleep about four times. Haha
Yeah, it's a very soothing process, especially with the music. - Colin
must visit that Urushi Art museum in Japan when I head there in July.
I know this is an older video but it's so amazing to watch. I'd be incredibly nervous screwing up the design if I was the one hand carving it!
I love videos that explain & show the process! :) Absolutely beautiful.
This is the type of technique that just has to be seen to fully understand. Glad you liked it Chelsea! - Colin

simply beautiful!!
The background music though
Japanese people even close cupboards with elegance!

3 people disliked this video just because they can't even draw a simple flower.

What a wonderful video. Many thanks for bringing it up.
Simply wonderful
What an amazing video of a great art form.
I love the Japanese culture so much. I wish I was born Japanese in Japan but traditional parents in a historical town that specializes in accent art forms.
14:48 magic
its more of an art form or an expression indeed
All I could say when I saw the finished fountain pen was damn.
wow ! so beautiful :)
I know right? The attention to detail is amazing. - Colin
These pens are really beautiful, but I'm curious how they write. Is there a video that shows them writing like you guys have for other pens?
We do have another video that goes into more detail on the pens (ruclips.net/video/oBcgr_zXT30/видео.html) but doesn't feature writing samples, but they should perform similarly to other high end Pilot pens. - Colin
The Goulet Pen Company great video, thanks for the help.
I need to know the music used in this beautifully informative video!
Not quite sure of all the different songs, but it's mostly stock Japanese Traditional music. If you google "SC-2804 - Japanese Traditional" or "SC-2815 - Japanese Traditional" some should pop up in the Nash Music Library. - Colin
That was gorgeous! Wondering if someone can teach me this in India...
anybody knows the name of the craftsman or the design of the Maki-e in 2nd minute witch includes 2 phoenixes ???
or maybe Roosters?!!!
This video is a number of years old, so I don't believe that particular design is readily available anymore. how much does they cost?
A true and timeless art, not modern crap. This true art should make Namiki better than a plain resin Mont Blonc any day.
Other than that they cost like 5 times as much
Why the yukari raden moonlight is the only one missing from the line? That one is truly beautiful!!
We can only offer what Pilot has made available, but I agree, it's a gorgeous pen. We do have the Raden Vanishing Point! - Colin
I agree with you about how the yukari moonlight raden is beautiful. I think the reason why they don't showcase it in this video is that it uses inlay techniques, which has a somewhat different process than engraving. I hope Pilot makes a video on the moonlight raden, it definitely deserves it.
Oh, I meant in Goulet's online shop the moonlight is not there for sell... pity...
It should be available later this summer. Just waiting for more to be made and shipped to the US. -Rachel
Ah sorry, I misunderstood your comment :P

I think that's what happens with most people. It's never inked up and just remains a work of art! - Colin
WOW!
どんだけ繊細ねん、しかもフーリーハンドって俺には絶対できない
I do the same at school with a compass
Aaa
6 - 10 тысяч долларов ручка стоит)))
why does this video look like a 2008 youtube video
Ooh i see
I wonder if someone will have the right skill to use a Micro Dremtel tool one day, instead of chisels. 🧐
