I think this woman that gave this intro a voice is the same woman that is giving now those readings from Audiopedia youtube channel...Absolutely the best voice ever.

UT had such a cool universe...yeah sure there's inconsistency, but for the most part all the locales and different characters had unique backstories and origins that tied into this general idea of an established history. It had this way of leaving you wanting to know more...it was the first multiplayer FPS I played that felt like it was gradually telling me a story of a within the chaos.
I just came to see this intro after i saw this game on steam, and MY GOD I FEEL OLD. I'm 17 but I remember that this was most possibly the first game I ever played back in 2002/2003 when I was 5/6 years old. The intro feels so different now, back then I didn't understand what the hell the woman was talking about, and the moving camera through the streets seemed so sinister but now it looks very basic and shit (obviously) buying this on steam right now.

This game will always be one of my favorites. I loved how broken the sniper rifle was! You could shoot someone in the foot and it could count as a headshot!
I love how massive the camera is...probably armour so it doesn't get blown up by people trying to prove they are the betht; to cruth their enemieth; to win the tunnament.
This makes me feel so nostalgic. I still prefer the feel of this UT to the newer ones, it was a lot more gritty and felt fast paced, and it was also simple. It was also representative of the best thing about PC gaming (And gaming in general), the modding and the general creativity (expressed in the name, UNREAL tournament). Even a map editor was supplied with the game, but whole conversions could still be created. Nowadays games are all on consoles, and there's little that's new in FPS's.
What's funny is that the original Unreal kind of sucked, but once UT came out it sky rocketed and now Unreal Engine is used in many games including Batman Arkham Asylum

Modern Warfare 2 needs to get a little UNREAL!!! Do I miss UT99 so much...I was 15 when I first played it. That game is a credit to my overall FPS experience!

this is the PC version. i made this video as a test and demonstration of a "technically well done" capture - high AA and AF, downsampling, and perfectly smooth animation - iirc i used something like movieunreal - and no IM noises etc in the sound. animation jerkiness is introduced by youtube.
Such EPIC!! But how did you set the environment to get that quality? we are in 2015 so the computers should be powerful enough... I set Software Render and it improved a lot, but is still far from yours.

Oh no, it's not a bad GAME by any stretch, but Unreal had so much going for it that made it something MORE than some Space Marines fighting a war. Something a bit different, a bit wacky, a lot funny. And they just got rid of it.
