This Ride
www.mtbproject...
I'm back out in the Boulder area with some new friends, Danny and Collin who I met while livestreaming at Valmont the other day, and ANOTHER new friend, Bennet, who we met out on the trail today.
We are riding Bergen Peak, and although I had only ridden this trail once before, I remember I liked it quite a bit. We didn't know too much heading into the ride, but braced for adventure.... little did we know what was in store.
During this ride I encountered some of the toughest switchbacks and techy climbing sections I have braved in some time. Not only was the trail beating us down, but to add insult to injury (RIP my pinky) the young 12 year old ripper that we picked up along the ride was an absolute boss and cleared not one but two switchbacks that the rest of us failed to after numerous attempts.
No worries though (and mad props to Bennet, he was such a cool kid and totally humble), this ride has the making of epic and this is only the first half.....
LFRHGS my friends
I'm sitting in a ridiculous comfy bed at a hotel that I was pretty surprised they let me in for the first night of our CB Chasing Epic trip with some of the guys from the channel... so stoked to share this stuff with you all; I think this is some of the most breathtaking scenery I have ever ridden in! Ok, time to melt into this cushy bed and...Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
LFRHGS!
Alexander
I am so friggin mad that I was not able to ride the downhill with you guys but it was still definitely a very fun ride. So stoked! Live free, ride hard, get stoked!!!
YOOOOOOO what's up Bennett!!!!??? For anyone curious, this is the Boss man himself, the slayer of switchbacks, and master of gravity - was super awesome meeting you buddy :D
Thanks
you rode like a badass! Great job man
Will you ever be coming back to Colorado to ride? I would love to ride downhill with you.
Bennett Russell dude super cool ridding i wish i could ride like that up hill i cant even picture what a badass you are down hill. Keep shredding
Dear BKXC , Single Track sampler ,Phil with skill & Seth i used to ride every day for several years up here in Canada but i stopped riding do to knee pain ( arthritis ) Both knees had to be replaced and i fell into depression gained a shit ton of weight and my bike was stolen ..........now that i have discovered you 4 im finding the old MB flame has been rekindled i want to thank you 4 for inspiring me to get back on a bike and stop moping about !! again thx seth thanks phil thanks single track & BKXC you guyz are awsome
Hey Kyoat, SUPER stoked to hear you're love of riding has been rekindled. trust me, I know how hard it can be - I'm most likely not that far behind you as I'm already 2 knee surgeries in - but there's no sense in feeling sorry for ourselves right? We just gotta get our asses in the saddle and ride!!! Keep up the hard work my dude, and obviously LIVE FREE, RIDE HARD, & GET STOKED!!
That is so cool that you let Bennett ride with you, I hope you know how much you boosted the kids ego and he will remember that his whole life I guarantee you. I knew that kid would clear all the climbs.
Just finished the most EPIC weekend of riding with 6 amazing friends from the channel. I CANNOT WAIT to show you guys how absolutely stunning the singletrack is out here in Crested Butte and the ridiculous fun we had. Now, I'm off to find Seth as he is somewhere in Colorado going on his 24th hour of driving, so wish us luck as we start our 2 week CO roadtrip together........ also..... WHERE'S DURK!!???
The Singletrack Sampler That was fun bro 😎. I thought I left you in charge of Dirk when I left 😱😫 ??
Please come to Ruby hill bike park
He's with the super models.
Where is the other video... hurry up!!
Ha, Did Seth bring a fat bike?
Switchback at 10:26
Will Hoskins THANK YOU
Was doing homework... but Singletrack Sampler just uploaded... i think it’s break time!
This just in: you've been working hard and deserve a break, TAKE IT!
I've been riding mtb for nearly 20 years now (half my life) and I have to admit, in 17:34 you showed nearly everything that is good and pure with mountain biking. This may sound cheesy, but congrats at succeeding in life.
I need to put that kid in a Trail Boss video!! He kills it!
Alex man it seems like youve found your RUclips MTB channel niche and its so fun to watch man... riding with subscribers, sessioning obstacles and really showing these tough climbs rocks dude! Keep killin it!
P.S. The dude in the blue helmet being so stoked at the end was awesome
Haha I always feel like I'm the worst at huffing and puffing. I rode with two mountain goats over the weekend, and they're carrying on a full conversation while I'm grunting in the back of the pack.
haha, that's me as well
hydration packs that's probably why haha
I've found that as long as you don't have the pack stuffed to the bursting point, they don't really hinder anything. Once they're filled to where you can't even put in another energy bar, they drag you down like a dragster brake (which is a parachute).
Appreciate the quick bike checks. Always curious what everyone's riding. :) Looked like a brutal, and super fun climb. Nice one!
1:50 I've got the exact model of stumpjumper (Except 2014) and I've loved how versatile it's been. It can take climbs, xc, and still performs on north shore trails. My stumpjumper was also my first mtb and it was a easy transition from my previous $350 hardtail. Nice seeing others enjoying the bike.
Only you. ONLY you, can make climbing entertaining!!!
+The Bicycle Engine 👊👊👊
"...and kinda hurt my pinkie." That made me laugh, dude. Looks like you guys had an epic fun day. That's what its all about. Hope your pinkie's ok.
Singletrack Sampler has more MTB skill in his pinkie than I have in my whole body.
I just got back from a ride and there's a new video up! that's amazing timing!
New guilty pleasure. I appreciate the positive vibe.
this is better than going to the movies
Yes
LOL! "This is getting a little hairy already!" *pulls wheelie*
This is hilarious because in Australia (at least where I live), there are no lifts whatsoever so this is what I do every time I go mountain biking. It's painful but rewarding.
Haha awesome. Need to ride with you sometime.... I'm always leaving my backpack unzipped!
Yeahhhh!!! Alex is singing!! More.. more.. more.. more.. 🎤🎤🎼🎼👍👍
hahaha I love singing, Nuke!! I just find it's best done on the trail where the trees are mostly my audience :D
That 12 year old smoked you guys 😂 bet he had a brilliant time
Man your energy is amazing, I love you.
Had a dyslexic moment the other week. Was telling my bro about the Single Sack Trampler 😂
So sorry! Love your videos, road trips, etc! Keep it up!
😂😂😂
Dude, I love it! Been watching your channel for a bit now and everytime you have a new vid loaded, I cant wait to watch it. God Bless and shred on!
Do we get to see the down?
So cool! Love seeing the young kids straight BOSSIN the trail!
Gives me hope for the future! lol
Have run Bergen Peak several times and will be hiking it with the granddaughter on Friday. Working on the skills to be able to ride it some day!
I feel like it's pretty darn good practice pedaling up that counterclockwise... easy to say you would be well mastered if you could clean the whole thing!
That switchback was sick! Awesome Benet pulled it off and saved you guys. ;) Keep riding and stay safe.
So what the heck happened at the end? I assumed it was a cliff hanger for the next video.
Seriously! I wanna know if he saved it!
Great video. I was in tears laughing so hard watching all the attempts at the impossible switchback. Bennett...amazing skills...keep it up !
Alex, your level of stoke is contagious!
Hey Alex! What's up, man? So I didn't get to see this earlier today because my work system was offline all day. Prolly will be tomorrow, too. Glad I could catch this before putting my kids to bed.
3:37 - Seems that overshooting the trail is a common thing, these days. I've been doing that a lot, lately.
5:06 - Bennett is lucky to have met up with you. Also, I really want to work at a bike shop.
11:56 - Bennett is totally showing y'all up. Haha! Send it, Bennett!
12:35 - Yeah, I would totally risk falling to get a shot of that view!
13:13 - Dude, it looked like you nearly went over again.
14:10 - Man, it looks like this climb's got the switchbacks from Hell.
16:45 - Clif bars, dude. I love those things.
Looking forward to the downhill part. And good show from Bennett! #LFRHGS
Until next time, stay upright and keep the rubber side down.
-Brian
I was sad to see Bennett go, he's a trail monster
This is awesome, love these videos. Bergen Peak is a great ride, most front range trails are good climbs (Deer Creek, White Ranch, Apex, Mt Falcon). So now maybe Alex you can see why having the right of way when you're climbing makes sense, it sucks having to stop on a narrow, steep and technical singletrack when you're on a rhythm to let someone zipping by downhill and it's not always possible to get going again (getting traction, clipping in for those of us still using clipless pedals).
If you drop your seat post when your doin all those tight switch back into one of the rock tech section or on any hard rock tech section drop your seat and it will help you get up!!!
For me clipless definitely helps with such rock features. The ability to put the rear wheel right where you want it makes it surprisingly easy
really like all the 3rd person shots in this video! looked like a great crew. keep it up!
Saw Seth' video about your accidents and him helping you back on tract. Very inspiring.
The dude with the shoulder problem reppin the cardinals tank🤘🤘🤘
this 12 year old kid is going to be the next skills with phil in 8 more years
The first time I ever rode this I went the other direction and it was early spring. We finally made it to the top (after waking way too much of it) and were excited for the downhill. Then we discovered that the downhill, on the Northside of the mountain, still had snow on it! We had to walk about half a mile to get out of the snow.
Super inspired after looking at that kid killing it!!!! Thank you for what you do.
I just moved to Colorado in the Denver area, just south of Denver. I am looking forward to putting myself back on the bike again, regaining the time and skills I have lost over being off a bike for about 2 years.
Really enjoyed the video. It reminds me of the guys I used to ride with. Just keep trying until you make a section. So much fun. Been 2 years since I've riden. Hope to ride this year.
OMG that switchback session was hilarious. :D And Bennett is a badass rider.
It's too cool that Bennett let you ride with him, clearly the King of that Hill.
Forget the kid, that guy Mark is my hero! I thought I was too old but now I want to be a mountain goat like that guy!
That moment when u realize that good ol descend has a uphill climb after. Gotta earn it!!! MTB life
MTB life can be so hard sometimes XD
Super cool that you showed what no body sees, the way up!!!!!
"We work hard for the money! we work hard for the downhill..." had me dying xD
Super techy climb. So many places I would've failed or dabbed. Definitely a trail that makes you better. Would love to ride it.
I live a few miles from Bergen, and climb it regularly during the warm weather months. No doubt, it's a solid grind with some good tech, although I usually take it clockwise (up Bergen trail/ down too long). Awesome job clearing everything and that kid is a billy goat! You'll definitely run into local bikers on this trail every now and then that can just rock it.
I'm impressed your pulling wheelies all the way!
One of the hardest rides on the front range when you combine the length with the technical stuff.
Very cool sess. I like how different ages can come together no problem, and is always good to have the reminder of being humble enough to know and accept that we are always learning, from a senior sometimes or sometimes from a kid ?
Kids are the shit !
Cheers man ! Be really good !
I like how the video shows you can be 12 or 50 years old, it's really about knowing the trail and your bike.
Come on man, I was about to climax with the down hill and bam...you pull out! 😂
Nice!! So jealous!! Thanks for sharing!!
Nice. I love that you filmed the climb on this one. I may be weird, but I prefer climbing to downhill. I love to hurt, and I love trying to through a maneuver at .2 miles an hour. so hard! love the pain!
Men these climbs! Great views I am stoked!
I’m tired just from watching all the climbing.
I'm STILL tired and this was like... 7 days ago...
That looked damn hard... 🤘
I think that was the toughest climb I did all season so far
Time for an e-bike! 😈😱
Curious how much time was spent on the climb?
Gnarly Gnar Gnar trails...man. I live in Prescott, Arizona, and we have some pretty rocky trails here also. Great video!
you needed to throw some benny hill theme in with that switchback session
Great vid. Would love to see more of the descent.
TSS.. this video was so entertaining. the switchback glitch back...cool camera editing..oooh, and keep the bike checks coming. when you love to ride you'll ride...um...anything............................crickets chirping... yeah...things with wheels. Have a nice day!
Alex, bruh, do we need to start a go fund me for a New Jersey? That purple one has about had it. Just playing man. Love the videos. Keep up the shredding!
Dude, having such a laugh watching you guys session that switchback.
8:25 "geez this trail has got a stout uphill"
lol thats most of every front range trail in CO at all. Its like riding DH but you have to pedal. If you get off the front range you can find some rolling trails but its mostly all up front.
Bennett rocks. How fun. Bergan Peak is a great challenge trail. I climb it on my hardtail. You went the harder direction. Funny, you got to the nasty nasty climb section and ... walked it. So did I. The view is amazing at the top ... and the down is so worth it.
Awesome ride Alex. Keep it up. You should get the King of the Mountain Trophy or actually Give it to Bennett. That kid is a stud.
Man oh man it gets better and better great video I'm so stoked I'm gonna go riding in the a.m. lol!
Bennett. Crusher of dreams. Devourer of souls.
WTF you can't have us watch the uphill then not give us the downhill! You've done us wrong, Alex...
+SG - MTB 😜
You are becoming a better storyteller. Keep it up and thanks.
i always found that on my enduro bike ( rocky mountain slayer profile picture is my old bike ) it was a lot easier to clean really tech climbs by lower my dropper post so i have more room to move on my bike.
Your "stuff" playlist on Spotify is classic bro, thanks for the tunes!
Yoooo!!! Dude I'm so stoked you found that! I collab on that one with my little brother, so I can't take ALL the credit :D
Sick! Riding with good music makes the miles feel like nothing!
Check out "Space Oddity" for the playlist
Hey Alex, you make dope videos. Super nice dude with a killer attitude. Love the channel and keep up the sick vids!
Bennett has got some skills, X. Champion for the future right there
Me encantó este Video los Tour recreativos son mis favoritos.
Real singletrack vibe, no hero X Games ego stuff, 10 pts..
Thanks Chip, that's what we're all about here!
Love that trail, grew up riding it
I like your bikes so much.... Thank you for your video in youtube.
Wish i had one bike
Bergen peak is definitely one of my favorite rides ,it was my second d trail I ever rode and yes it's so hard lol I also enjoy three sister trail witch is like a baby sister trail to Bergen peak
Haha so epic how that Kid just did it first try. Showing all you guys 😂
"I'm gonna make a supersonic man outta you!"....
Can't.... stop.... me now!
Nooo that ending !!!!! How could you end it like that !?! Ahhhh part two need now
A 12yr old, on a Huffy, a Kmart (read WallMart) bike. Friken LOVE it. Power to weight plays a magor part ;-)
You should ride that same technical incline on a Specialized turbo Levo and have a lot more fun.
You guys should try getting your seats down on those tech bits do you can move more and shift your weight around the bike
Great to see the younger generation out mountain biking. I'm currently trying to make a mountain biker out of my son. He is 13.
dang that kid got skillz
ridiculous skillz
@The Singletrack Sampler I'm going to boulder this weekend. If you want to ride I can show you a few trails. Please message me back before Friday. Its a hard and technical trail, but it is fun.
Alex, you rock my world! Love your videos you inspire me :-)
You sound like you're dying on the climbs, it's my favorite part, makes me feel better that I'm not the only one, lol. Well then I dunno, also really like the danger giggles when disaster is impending and the victory yells. Okay so it's all my favorite.
I AM dying on the climbs, not just sound :P
Man you guys must have some insane cardio!
I need to go there!! Living the dream
Sick trails guys, would definitely ride them someday..cheers from malaysia
Cheers dude!
I know the feeling.. We have a guy that started riding with our group when he was about 14. That was a few years ago, now he does wheelies over the stuff the rest of us struggles with.. :-P
Nicely done kiddo.
I really feel like there should have been some old silent movie style music at the 11 minute mark though. ;)
