Great job on your canoe! You and your Dad stayed to task and finished the project! Your canoe should last you a lifetime! Thanks for sharing your efforts…😎
about 5 years ago i found a 12 foot flat back canoe for FREE, yes free and drove 3 hours to pick it up. Its in rough shape but ive taken in out a few times and never had a problem with it springing a leak. Its been sitting at my parents lake for a while and i never considered bringing it back to its glory days... after this video i think i may just do that. Good job!
You guys did a wonderful job. One thing I might have done differently is paint the outside of the canoe the very last. Paint the interior, install the seats etc., Then at the end, paint the outside...it appeared to be a little scratched when your Dad lifted it to try out the yoke. I am doing my first restore on my canoe after a storm brought down a tree limb on top of it and cracked the hull on both sides. Videos like yours have totally given me more confidence I can do this :)
Nice work! My perfect aluminium canoe got destroyed last winter by the snow plough; I have since got one big white busted fiberglass one for free and a much less busted yellow one with some small cracks for $120. I'm hoping to practice on the white one and then fix up the yellow one. hopefully I end up with at least one working boat! both are fiberglass. never done this before, hoping to borrow a sanding grinder instead of buying or renting. I hope mine look as good as yours when I'm done!
Your canoe turn out great. Tell your dad he makes me happy to see him helping you out on your canoe. My wife was scared to get in a boat. I wish she was still with me. She is in heaven now I lost her on 1-19-2014 she was only 59. I am now 65 and this year I will be 66 it's hard not having her with me. I have been looking for a canoe and the prices are out of site. Living off of S.S. is not easy. I wish you all the best and happy paddling down a river or lake.
hey Olivia I restored my canoe as well and used the same paint you did my question is how long did the paint take for yours to dry and did you have to put a protective paint ontop of it? I've had mine painted for 4 weeks and sitting in the garage and it just won't harden up it is almost like a gum texture is the best example to say it's like. please help. thank you
Curious on how the solignum paint cured and also would like feedback on its durability? Just bought a 4L can at Canadian Tire I have used Alkyd paint on cabinets before. The finish is nice but it does take a long time to cure (stays tacky a long time) Thanks! Great video
I swear my dad didn't do all the work! 😅 What do you think of the final outcome?
You and your dad did a great job of restoring that canoe. You should get many years of paddling enjoyment out of it.
@@jesterger Thanks so much! It was a ton of fun!
Beautiful gonna use same pant scheme I like it alot

I just did what you did. I bought a canoe! I want to paint mine metallic green. Going to learn a lot from you guys😊
That was great to watch. I'm going to start a cargo next week. This video helped big time. Thank you.

We, looks like the old man is doing all the work, lol
Found one free on street 😊
This makes me want to restore one now! Fiancé says it’s too much work if you don’t know how to do it. I’ll convince him one day to do it!
I didn't want to do it at first either haha. But I learned a lot. I think the worst part was the sanding.

Great video
How much paint did you use? The whole gallon? How many coats?
I don't think we used a whole gallon. We did three coats, but it took two days between to dry
How is the repair holding up?
It's just your dad doing work lol
Hey if he knew how to film, it would be a different story
