    I am a grown woman. I am just realizing that my Nanies Magical Icicle Pickles had food coloring. Lol, Bless her heart. I miss her so much and this just really made my YEAR! Thank you for sharing your recipe. I will update once I've made it.

    Been making these for years and I am so impressed by your lack of "mess"....I drip syrup/juice everywhere and have to clean, scrub and mop my whole kitchen...LOL These really are the very best pickles EVER and make everything taste better.....chicken salad, tuna salad, potato salad, deviled eggs, etc. Or, just perfect for eating. Just canned 12 jars and have another batch of cukes in the brine.

    Thank you for your helpful video! I followed your instructions exactly as stated. My husband says the pickles taste just like his grandma's did when he was a boy.

    Sandra, I am interested in making this recipe for these pickles. Wanted to know on day 9 when you put in the alum powder if that can be replaced with Ball Pickle Crisp?

      Oh sorry I didn’t see this question before. I’m not familiar with Pickle Crisp. Did you try it? Did it work? Now I’m curious!!

    Thanks for the great tutorial! I'm definitely trying this :) Can't tell from the video though, were they pint or quart jars?

    • @UnmodernLiving
      @UnmodernLiving  3 года назад

      I use mostly pints - but you can certainly use either!

    Do you have to rinse the alum off on day 10?

    • @UnmodernLiving
      @UnmodernLiving  3 года назад

      I don't bother to rinse it off, I just drain the liquid and then cover it with syrup.

    No, I did not use pickle crisp, the pickles were crisp enough using alum powder. My brother told me he thought the skin was too tough. You cannot please everyone.

    Can this be trippled or quadrupled if you have 5 gal pails? Cuz a few jars is not enough for this house hold.

      Sorry for my delayed reply!! We were on holiday. Honestly I’ve never tried anything more than a single batch at once. It makes quite a few jars in one batch. I usually end up making two batches each year and it lasts us all winter!

    Hi there! I'm trying your pickles for my very first "pickle-making" venture! I noticed on your video that you skipped from Day 7 to Day 9. Do you just let them sit in the fresh boiling water that was added on Day 7 - until Day 9?

      Oh my! I just saw this now, I’ll have to pull out my recipe and double check. My guess is yes tho :)

    Do you use Pickling vinegar (7%) or white vinegar (5%) ?

    • @UnmodernLiving
      @UnmodernLiving  Год назад

      Usually just white vinegar

    • @68hotrodrs
      @68hotrodrs Год назад

      They recommend at least a 5% vinegar for pickling …. There are some out there that are less now so be careful

    What about pink salt?

    • @UnmodernLiving
      @UnmodernLiving  4 месяца назад +1

      I’m not sure to be honest. I’ve always used pickling salt

    These are my favorite for potato salad. My grandmother always had some made. Now that she's gone we're all weeping. I have a recipe but it's pretty vague. I'm scared to death I'm gonna screw it up before the end

      Sorry your grandma is gone. I’m sure she’d be thrilled if you tried! It’s really pretty easy! Let me know if you have any questions. I never thought to put them into potato salad! Thanks for the suggestionx

      @@UnmodernLiving Thank you! I did end up making some. I think I did ok....Also, try some tomato in potato salad. I use my grandfather's recipe. The only one I have ever seen with tomato. I can send it to you. Just let me know how/where to send.
