It was even stated by Deku himself that had he not met All Might he might have ended up like Gentle. A broken kid who merely wants to be noticed by anybody by any means necessary
All men are not created equal We all can't be deku given the most OP power ever, sometimes we're like gentle constantly trying to archive our goals but stopped at every turn
He could've kicked ass in a different field of work. Actually many people these days try to force themselves into jobs and dreams. First society tells them to, then they tell themselves and end up completely ignoring their gut feeling.
I really enjoy how Horikoshi continuously creates villains who are really diverse foils of his main character. Each of the main villains (except Overhaul, as he’s more of Shigaraki’s foil) are genuine foils, but each one embodies different aspects of Deku’s personality taken to extremes. Stain embodied Deku’s Hero Worship, particularly of All Might, taken to an obsessive and dangerous extreme. Shigaraki’s early dreams of being a hero marked him for abuse, and he currently bears the burden of being a great man’s protégée, along with a lesser degree of Deku’s obsession with All Might. And Gentle is probably the closest in personality to Deku, with a keen intellect given his creative use of quirk, a desire to be a Hero despite all odds in his youth, a mother he cared for, etc. But most of all, Gentle is a manifestation of Deku’s tenacity and selfless desire to be a hero and symbol, only shown with realistic consequences; basically, what would have happened had Deku met any other Hero besides All Might under that bridge. If Deku met a Hero with no incredible power to give to him. If anything, to pull an overly dramatic line from a different comic book foil pair, Gentle is what Deku could have become after one bad day.
Gage M meanwhile, All For One is more of a foil to All Might, since he represents the typical 60s comic book villain, while All Might is the typical 60s comic book hero.
I thought it was a cool conflict for Deku to have to fight someone who also had a dream and cared for his friends. Him realizing that to achive his dream he'll have to shatter other people's dreams
One thing my dad has always told me is: "Judge a goldfish by it's ability to climb a tree, and you will always think it's stupid." I think Gentle and La Brava's stories are embodiments of this quotes. They could have had bright, wonderful futures, but due to what society tells them is the ideal, they are left behind as they don't fit that criteria.
For that reason, this is what will happen if villages deny their children their embracing warmth… sooner of later, they will eventually in some way will burn it down out of desperation to get it!
I mean... can you even call Gentle a villain in what he does. He's more like a prankster. One of his 'crimes' was to steal a vintage item (its been a while, i think it was pudding) from a store, that they prized themselves for selling... just to expose the fact that they are being greedy and selling stock that is out of date. So his end goal... was to shame a store.
I think it's also specified in the manga that all his targets generally were people/businesses like that. They all were left unnoticed after or while doing bad things. He wanted to leave a mark, but he never truly gave up on becoming a hero. At least, that's how I remember it, so it might be wrong. But yeah, (if I am correct in how I remember it) then that means that Gentle named himself a criminal to become a prankster vigilante. He never wants people to be hurt (like during the fight), he mainly wants to expose facts that have gone unnoticed and even left the judgement to others so those things couldn't be played off of his actions. That's also why I'd like to think that La Brava and him got another chance, because they never really comitted any serious crime. (Also, I love their designs, even if it does make the age gap look a bit more than it is and makes the feelings they have look a bit more creepy even though they're both adults and he's only in his early thirties.)
@@dangerouslydubiousdoubleda9821 legally he is. But this was more about him not really being villainous. He broke the law using his quirk, hence he is a villain. But he isn't an evil villain, he's hardly even "bad".
Gentle's darkness around his eyes were made by markers and for La Brava's sake? Yes, now i'm actually crying. If there are any people worth to protect it's these two(And Eri). Best villians, hands down. Step away Bonnie and Clyde, you're in Gentle and La Brava's seats.
I love how the villains are basically a way to show how to treat those who are, “different.” Don’t shun them! Don’t treat them like outcasts! Don’t just sit aside! Help them! Give them the care they need! This is the difference in Deku. Deku sees that underneath the facade, Gentle might be a little selfish and stubborn, but he’s not irredeemable or even evil. He’s just a hopeless dreamer like him. He just wasn’t given the help Deku was given which is why he stands up for him and doesn’t throw him under the bridge. He gives him a chance at redemption.
I remember reading a quote from Stan Lee. He always wondered if he could do more than just write comics while other people had careers like doctor or engineers. He then realized that by entertaining he can help people go off the deep end. When you look at it. Hero society is similar. Heroes are placed high like doctors and engineers. Yet entertainers like writers and story tellers aren't seen as good enough to aspire to but according to Stan Lee it keeps people from going off the deep end. The stories keep people same they keep people happy and relieves them of the stress. Gentle indirectly did this by becoming famous he actually helped La brava without even realizing it.
Is it just me or is Gentle and La Brava's relationship surprisingly a good relationship. It's established early on that La Brava has stalker tendencies due to her quirk being about love, but because Gentle is kind and caring to a fault, he acts with kindness and understanding to her and instead of just blowing her off he basically makes a point to understand her, and accept her for who she is. Likewise La Brava is obviously very intelligent and observant. Though Gentle has an admittedly great quirk, he is kind of unobservant and single minded. So he messes up a lot. Both parties have something the other needs and they complement each other. Also I really liked this ark for 1 main reason. It was the B-list villain ark. Everybody knows in comic books you have the main Villains like Lex Luthor, Joker, etc, but you also got the weird b-list villains like calendar man, captain boomerang, and most recently stealing the spotlight Kiteman hell yeah. So yeah people can complain all they want that this was filler but honestly it's necessary. You can't have a comic book style superhero without including the everyday schmuck b-list villains.
nah this is good stuff in retrospective mostly, because it helps understand how fucked the society in the manga is, since not only outcasts with extreme psychological tendencies/quirks end up shunned or walking a bad path.
The fact that his goal was so small actually made the stakes feel higher, since there was a chance he could actually achieve it, especially since he wasn’t even trying to hurt anyone. Absolutely excellent character.
I'd have liked him to achieve it just for the lolz and more comedy and eventually be arrested later. Just imagine the awkwardness of him actually crashing the festival and getting millions of views.
I really hope Horikoshi brings these two back in a future arc. For example, I love the idea of once Deku becomes a fully fledged hero, and establishes his own Hero Agency, he finds Gentle and La Brava and offers them a place, to get them realizing their goal in a better way.
@@superthorc6894 like in some final battle, Shigaraki is about to kill Deku but is stopped by Gentle's quirk or sometime mid-Serie Deku and Gentle tag team against a great threat
Man, hearing that Gentle made those sharpie marks on his face in reference to (?) La Brava’s eye bags due to her depression made me cry. Speaking as someone who’s suffered through near-suicidal depression, that revelation hit me HARD.
Themes are the MOST important thing to me personally. If the themes are shit idc how good the rest is one bit. "Society tells everyone to go after their dreams but then does nothing to aid in that pursuit." OOF
@@appledough3843 But society can actively deter you from being able to "just work for it". The child of an immigrant who grows up in a neighborhood surrounded by drugs, violence, and the hopelessness of knowing that society isn't looking out for you the way it does for the privileged kid, yet still grows up to make something of himself and escape all that is the exception who beat the odds and saying that the 99 others who couldn't can only blame themselves is clearly incorrect. Bringing it back around to heroes do you think gentle here is a pussy for giving up on his dreams of being a hero becuase society punished him for even trying? Do you think those like Deku who were born without powers but dream of being heroes should always just do so even if it mean being a criminal, most likely losing everyone in thier lives they care about, living constantly on the run, having to race against the police and other heroes to do anything, and still have to figure out a way to legally make money for survival and not to justify claims of being a villain. The people who can beat society are badasses becuase they are exceptions extraordinary enough to do more than a normal person could but for 99.9% of us it is just not feasible so we try to make society better instead of just giving up on it. And bringing about that change is pretty damn heroic.
@@appledough3843 with that logic, people also don't owe society anything, so you shouldn't be shocked or angered when someone comes at your door, critically beat you and rob you blind. Society isn't just a one-way takeaway.
I strongly disagree with this on every conceivable level and even multiple inconceivable. Themes don't mean jack if the writing, charaters, etc. are shit and/or boring.
I'll second Gentle being my favorite of MHA's villains. He's so great. His place in the story is perfect, and the way he's used as a foil for Deku is fantastic. Shiggy might one day supplant him, depending on how he's used from here on, but right now? Nah, Gentle Criminal for life.
I relate to him because the system failed me. That is why Gentle and La brava are two of my favorite villains. It's crazy how I am going through a hard time right now and yet I can see this story in full.
My friend and I were talking about the last episode earlier today. He said something along the lines of "in this world, it's so hard to become a hero, but it's so easy to become a villain". Now, I read the manga and he's anime-only, but I never noticed that before. Even now at the point the manga is now, where the line is so blurred it's not even about "heroes versus villains" or "good guys versus bad guys" anymore. Without spoiling anything, there's a big over-arcing conflict between what is morally right versus what is lawfully right; people are safe but at the cost of personal freedoms versus people are free but a lot of people may have to die.
The reason that I like Gentle so much is because he was a good guy, studying to be a hero. He thought he could do it, he thought he could follow his dream and didn't realize his own shortcomings. And then he is confronted to reality. It's such a great story and frighteningly real as well. Turns out he is vain and foolish, but in a good way, like many people are. You know, the guy who was good at school and fancied himself as a big deal growing up? I see a lot of Gentle in this story. He was so far upon his ass that he didn't see he wasn't a great hero because he wanted glamour. It's a thing that I can see happening often in MHA world. And the nature of his petty crimes still show that he has a skewed perception of being a hero and he being an youtuber vlog-style is a brilliant way to show his vanity, as if he is on it for the clout, despite still having a sense of justice - as you can see how he chooses his victims. He's very superficial in the pursuit of his dreams, the opposite of the typical shonen main character. And his relationship with La Brava is important because it shows just because he has issues it doesn't mean he is nothing. He still is a good guy in the ending, even though he made mistakes and the story presents a good hopeful ending for him. He still can be useful if he is given the correct opportunity and that message is done with great elegance and nuance IMO. Great video, Oceaniz.
People would say he was lazy but some Just dont understand that people Like us are Not capable of understanding xyz. Just because some can, doesnt mean everyone can
Gentle is basically the equivalent to what Mineta and Hagakure are in UA. Gentle's power wasn't really meant for combat and it probably would have taken many years to get as good as he is at using it now. It just goes to show that not all characters who want to be heroes are suited for it.
@@familyguysofunny1933 I'm curious if in a late down the line moment Deku will have to pass on OFA and adapt to quirkless heroism like it hadn't been possible before until his retirement.
Sometimes, to maintain the smiles of people close to you, you must wipe those smiles off the faces of others. A cruel thing to ask of a hero. I'm certain that after seeing so many people be led astray by their pursuit of the values of hero society and idealism, Deku will push for societal reform to try and fix the broken hero system. To encourage people to continue to be good to each other, even when they may not achieve their ideal futures, and find alternate means to lead fulfilling lives.
I realize that this want is a stupid one, because they're arc is finished. But I genuinely want to see Gentle and La Brava in the series again. I want to see how they have grown as characters after the school festival arc, and honestly it would be such a waste to never reuse such and incredible character. But its a stupid want.
This was thoroughly worth spoiling myself for. I've never been very analytically minded. I have trouble piecing together established themes and subtext. Going forward, I think I'm going to enjoy the arc a lot more, with the understanding gained from this video, that I wouldn't have otherwise. Thank you.
This youtuber is being analytical in a biased and skewed way. If you want to see someone actually critically analyze this series then watch the playlist on my channel, it's a collection of videos showing the flaws the show has which very few people mention.
this is basically joker the movie, "we live in a society" oh and to add salt to the wound, at the last panel where la brava is seen. society finally notices her talent not in her quirk but in her haking skill, which i think is a bit too late.
Yeah but the slight difference is that joker never really recovered from his hatred to society and never found hope. Gentle meanwhile found his old self in deku. Probably a reason as to why he didnt commit to become a more "evil" villain in the future.
I found these 2 to be one of the best written relationships in Shonen it had development reasons hope and actual moments where after the episode was done I took a deep breath to take it all in which I did NOT expect to see in this series. Seeing horikoshi tackle the basic "mustache twirling" villain and turn it into one of the best characters in the story is truly mesmerizing
This arc really got me curious on the prospect of how "redemption" is handled. On the possibility of a remorseful villain, or even just a drop-out who wants a second shot, going back to school for, as silly as it sounds, a "Hero GED".
Gentle and La Brava as u said, they are in the middle of this society and that's why I can never call gentle a Villain and only a Vigilante Villain, the type of villain who isn't really out there to commit major crimes or be a horrible person, the type of villain u see fighting, toying and having a rival with Vigilantes, and that's why I love Gentle so much, he connects to that idea of Vigilantism that no other character in the main series has so far.
Basically Deku said it was his toughest fight because he came to the painful realization of how much it hit close to home that Gentle Criminal is extremely likely the kind of person he would’ve eventually turned into if he hadn’t been lucky enough to attract the attention of All Might, he could’ve turned into someone desperate for attention having to resort to a RUclips channel as a cry for help like Gentle Criminal and that is painful and even scary for Deku to think about. The truth has finally dawned on Deku that in hero society where some powers are more socially acceptable then others, no one can get ahead without someone being left behind. In a world where people are pressured to want to be superheroes, many will feel like unfulfilled failures because not everybody can save the day.
I really cant understand how is he a good character. The general idea behind him is something that its sooo mediocre, in the sense that its something we already saw everywhere, an idea that it is constantly recycled, a good (Pretty dumb) person that because of society ends up in a bad spot, a victim of society while in the interior he is actually a "good" guy, wanting to prove a point and change the whole system, eventually gets destroyed by main character and his ideals again end up in nothing, making him change his mind and maturing and through sentimentalism shit, make the audience feel pity for him. Where have i seen that? Yeah, in almost every mediocre anime. The idea is good actually, being mediocre does not means to be bad, thing is it really depends on how the author uses that idea. Kougami shinya (And every other character in psycho pass) are pretty much the same, good guys turning "bad" guys because of society shit and such, but the difference is that in psycho pass that actually works. Here, it just looks forced. His character is cringy, the whole arc it seems like its just filling material, and to not look that obvious, they add a "villain" to mantain the essence of the show. I honestly, cant understand how its gentle a good antagonist, because thats what he is. I really like the concept of a "villain" that has a more classical and refined aesthetic, i really like that idea, but in Gentle, it just doesnt work. His whole arc felt unnecesary. Stain is a clear example of what Gentle must have been. A guy that his vision about the world and society was corrupted thanks to society itself, all of his acts, even absurd as they were (I mean he was a criminal but decided not to kill certain heroes? LOL) had an objective, to change the society from root, to give a new perspective, to show the world the flaws and "evil" of the what it seems to most a "perfect world", his character and character development is awesome. THATS, what Gentle must have been, and he doesnt.
Maybe im losing something on his character, i know a little of character develpment and such, but i dont know everything, i would gladly change my opinion on him, but i just cant see why is he a "well written" character. I really think that the only think that makes him like to people, its because he is a more friendly and likeable character to kids, thats why people love him i guess? But that doesnt make him a good character though.
@@ignacioariellopez8491 because throughout the story we see the side of the heroes and villains gentle is the every man the dream denied we see the side of society most often ignored and thrown away the outcasts whether by community or choice(explained in MVA) he isn't even that bad arguably a vigilante(the places he target our businesses that have done unethical actions(such as selling expired food and lying about the expiration date)). he's a villain in terms of the law but in personality and attitude he's the farthest thing from it he is simply a man that wants to be remembered but has no real commitment whether to the rigorous hardwork and dedication to become a top hero to be forever remembered in society or the ability to break all social taboos in every form and resort to mass destruction and death to be idolized as a infamous villain he's mentally and physically too weak to be a destro all for one or all might. and all of that is intentional.
@@dangerouslydubiousdoubleda9821 like i said, Even the idea behind the character was totally cliché, it was good. Now, the development amd the way the writters handle the character was awful. I like the idea that gentle was supposed to be, i hate how he was written.
This may sound weird but I would actually want Gentle to meet Stain, to see how Stain would feel about the tragedy of someone who has the heart of a hero but not the physical abilities
I dunno. Gentle admits that he wants to be a hero to be famous, and although it's clear that he has otherwise genuinely good intentions and has a good heart, considering how even when he decided to go villain, all he did was expose society's ill wills, knowing the kind of person Stain is, I don't think he would've heard anything beyond "he wants to be a hero to be famous"
I remember squealing and even crying a bit when i saw the duo in the photos from the end credit. Now double that when I saw their silhouette dancing in the new opening and we have a very confused sister who doesn't read the manga. I love them both so much and this video describes exactly why I do.
The main reason hero academia is becoming one of my favorite animes is because of the focus on themes and character in a shonen structure. This mangaka LOVES his themes, I swear. He uses every opportunity to showcase a specific problem from the world he's created, and establishes great parallels between characters. My favorite has to be the shigaraki and eri one, where eri is the child who got help. The one who stumbled upon two kind students on the street, not just indifferent faces that didn't want to intervene.
The virgin Overhaul: Edgy villain, wants to destroy quirks, has a way too op quirk, gets beaten by a kid and a toddler. The Chad Gentle Criminal: Comically fun, just wants to continue his RUclips career, nearly defeated the same kid who defeated Overhaul and is regarded as Deku’s hardest opponent to defeat.
As someone with Mental disabilities (ADD, Anxiety, Autism), the case of La Brava's lack of structural support for her non-typical power feels EERILY similar to the lack of systemic support for neurodiversities in certain areas, which could be accidental but if it isn't, it's a *genius* move on Horikoshi's part, especially in my case with Autism, kinda feels like the system's only understanding of neurodiversity is that some folks learn faster or slower, or sometimes can't pay attention very well, when in many cases, it's MUCH more complicated than that
Damn, Deku really did become a villain this way by becoming an agent for the flaws of the system crushing the victims. One day he should try to change that, Gentle should have inspired Deku to work for that ideal when he attains greatness. I have a feeling when the Villains inevitably take over it will come down to the every-man, Vigilantes to rise in place of the wounded hero.
I imagine as Deku is more aware of the flaws of the society, we can see him start to address them so he can be a true symbol to actually become the greatest hero.
@@maxanderson3733 That's what I ultimately hope for! Not just him alone of course but with his peers as well as a new generational symbol with him leading the way.
@@maxanderson3733 Yep, especially with the variety of the students there are so we can see all types of heroes that can bring something unique to the table.
Your work is so underrated...your endeavor vid still remain my favorite Speaking of which will consider doing a follow up to that after what we got from endeavor agency arc ??
Here is a fact you may not know that helps support your idea. It turns out most of the police force and FBI are quirkless or dont use their quirks in MHA. They fight villeins who are also quirkless or refuse to use their quirks. In the very first episode All might himself said the police are considered a joke and that's why everyone made fun of deku. Because of him being quirklesss the very best he could be is a officer who would never be remembered. Honestly I agree with stain, fake heros need to be driven out but I think he was going about it the wrong way. If he instead of becoming the hero killer he could have became a teacher and helped teach people what it really means to be a hero.
I have never heard anyone discuss La Brava like this, this is awesome. Also, these videos are really good, have you read vigilantes? It really addresses the hero system in depth.
Excellent analysis video regarding this underrated and underappreciated arc! You have some of the best MHA analysis videos! :) People say this series is so simple yet miss a lot of what can be taken out from the story. lol Unfortunate how many people brush this arc as 'filler' when it has such great narrative value to the core themes. MHA is about what it means to be a hero so this arc offered another perspective of this meaning through Gentle aiming to be his own type of hero in a sense against the society that did not accept him and be La Brava's hero. Also with Deku fighting for his friends and Eri's smile since "Heroes don't just save lives, they save hearts too." You don't need a battle of life or death every time to be a hero or show stakes. The arc may not have the 'hype factor' that people expected with a shonen story, but the narrative offered in this arc is unlike others. Gentle, La Brava and Deku's clash with them served as a great spotlight on the issues present in hero society in a different way to expand the world building. I loved reading this arc in the manga as my favorite fight of Deku looking so cool in action. The action panel art was so awesome so I am realllyyyy hoping the anime will deliver it justice with this conclusion of this fight to make it resonate with others like it did in the manga. Pleaseee Bones deliver! lol
Fantastic video, I actually have something cooking in the lab similar to many of the points you addressed here about Gentle but the way you targeted them was masterfully done. A true inspiration, thank you for this amazing narrative on this character
My favorite part of gentle is how he tries to punish white collar crime, such as the pudding company knowingly selling spoiled pudding. I'd imagine white collar crime would be pervasive, with intelligence quirks existing. Does hero aca have super accountants who chase down tax fraud? I hope so.
Honestly. These 2 are perfect for each other. They may have had the world fail them but when they were alone, they never failed each other. Brilliant vid man, you deserve a like, my guy. 👏
Because of this arc im rooting and begging for the league of villains to change/restart the world. People in society are only in it for themselves. Even the most kind and hard working people are built out of the suffering of others. Just one small act of ignorance is enough cast someone out of their dreams unequally. People who don't do anything or has to seize an opprotunity are portrayed as evil as the league of villains. I love the world building of My Hero Academia, not its fandom.
As someone approaching Gentle's age this pair and arc hit me harder than anything before it in MHA. Particularly "Am I just going to grow older, poor and pathetic?" was something I never expected to get out of this show. That coupled with how his fight against Deku is literally shot as if Deku is the antagonist, with cinematography and music swelling as La Brava desperately tries to save Gentle's dream, it was just overwhelmingly emotional and gave me hope that there's much more than DBZ-inspired power scaling in MHA's future.
I can understand people not liking such a relaxed arc, but to me, this is one of the best arcs. This arc really shows what class A looks like outside of hero work, how they function as friends and how they make each other better. We need arcs like this to ground the story in something relatable, especially after the extreme high that was Overhaul.
Its with arcs like these where we are able to see how talented and how much effort an author puts in to his work. Making a good story without emegeeh epic high adrenaline stakes and action is NOT EASY,AoT uprising arc comes to my mind, widely rejected for not having anything generic viewers/readers thought the story was about (epic big stake fights against brainless titans) fighting for the sake of fighting gets boring real quick (dragon ball z/super being prime examples of it).
“Not everyone is All Might” Great, now I’m picturing hundreds of loud, muscular bois going around saying stupid shit, then suddenly all running away because their quirks were about to run out
I just feel really bad for them. Both of them could’ve become great heroes, but people just decided to ruin their chances of being successful by being terrible to them. They tried their best but the world failed them and this is how they turned out. It really sucks
I have heard many people call this arc "just a filler arc" and I personally love this arc I think is beautiful and necesary, Eri's trauma is not going to disapear in a day she needs to expirience happyness and Class A-1 are still kids this arc reminds you that they are kids and Gentle and La Brava its a great story that expands the world of hero aca
I will never understand why Gentle's instinct to save that falling person is "wrong" or even unusual. If I see someone choking or drowning, I WILL try to help them. Am I qualified? No! But I absolutely could not stand there and watch someone die and tell myself, "oh, MAYBE someone else, someone more qualified, will show up to save them." That's just not human nature.
So yeah, between Overhaul and Gentle and La Brava season 4 might just be the series at it’s peek with emotional investment and theming so far. And I absolutely love it for that.
I do love Gentle and La Brava! They're actually my favorite additions to the ever growing world of My Hero. They act a perfect middle ground of being seen as flawed but made their own path anyway!
This video is a little over a year old and I honestly don’t know how I stumbled over this video but I did and I’m so happy. I almost cried over this and I honestly still might. Even if in this world we don’t have powers, I felt strongly connected to La Brava. That I was let down by people who were supposed to take care of me. That my value only derived from my capabilities. That being my ability to learn quickly. I was out on pedestal and pushed off once I slowed down. But I’m not here to tell my life story, I’m here to say thank you for helping me understand better. Understand what? I’m not sure but all I know is I understand now and I’m grateful. Thank you.
I legit think these two could have their own Pinky & the Brain style spin-off from My Hero Academia They're such amazing characters on their own and even though it probably won't happen at this point, I really wanna see them return in some way, somehow
I just watched their fight last night. And I honestly felt really bad for Gentle and La Brava. At the time, I couldn't quite put my finger on it, but I just knew that they weren't evil. And seeing La Brava cry broke my heart. I think you explained things perfectly here. Gentle and La Brava are the two villains that I sympathize with the most. I hope somewhere down the road, they get a chance at redemption. I think they deserve it.
I was really keeping my hopes up,i thought gentle and la brava were going to fail their plan but be able to scape...and that made the outcome a lot more sad and bittersweet for me,yes Eri is important but shes not the only one who deserves happyness. Im gonna have a hard time enjoying the festival knowing those 2 poor souls are out there. I put Gentle up there alongside Stain, nothing is black and white...not all heroes are good (Endevour) not all villains are evil (Stain/Gentle)
I'm glad that you drew attention to the way Manami's and Toga's Quirks made them both want to be involved in the lives of the people they cared about and ,because it wasn't the "appropriate" way to show interest as deemed by society, became shunned by it.
you could say the spinoff "vigilante: boku no hero academia illegals" (gosh that's a long title) continues this theme of abandonment and people who are not geniuses but are not shunned due to destructive powers.
I love and adore Gentle and La Brava so much. Plus they are my favourite vilian's in My hero academia to be honest . They are also two of my favourite My hero academia character's as well. Definitely in my top 5 of the series. I really hope they come back, I genuinely miss them

One thing my dad has always told me is:
"Judge a goldfish by it's ability to climb a tree, and you will always think it's stupid."
I think Gentle and La Brava's stories are embodiments of this quotes. They could have had bright, wonderful futures, but due to what society tells them is the ideal, they are left behind as they don't fit that criteria.

yea?
I mean... can you even call Gentle a villain in what he does.

Don’t shun them!
It's all comes back to the first sentence in the series, "all men aren't created equal"

"Society tells everyone to go after their dreams but then does nothing to aid in that pursuit."
OOF
Whoever expects society to help them are pussies. Society doesn’t owe them anything. How entitled can you get? Work hard and get it yourself.

CORECT
I actually felt sad when gentle was caught he is actually a pretty good guy
Videos like this remind me why I love MHA. Love the video 🙏
Yesss! Gentle is the best character Horikoshi has writen so far imo. People really don't give him enough credit.
His character arc barely finished lol give it time
I really cant understand how is he a good character.

The class of that man......
I really hope they come back in someway. I hope the cops realize how powerful they're together.
It's because of the themes represented by Gentle, and the creative use of his power, that his fight with Deku remains my favorite in the series.
When I first read CF I really wanted Gentle to win at times. Truely the best fight in the series for me. I hope they return.
I have a feeling when the Villains inevitably take over it will come down to the every-man, Vigilantes

Also with Deku fighting for his friends and Eri's smile since "Heroes don't just save lives, they save hearts too."
You don't need a battle of life or death every time to be a hero or show stakes.
Omg I didn't notice how he didn't have the dark circles until after he met La Brava
It's such a damn shame people dislike this arc or think its' boring... Sigh if only, I guess...
I agree. Very underrated for the narrative it has to offer. I love this arc in the manga. Some of the best art and action panel shown with the fight!
Yeah. Some people only care about the epic fights and big stakes, not giving a shit about the narrative.
I can understand people not liking such a relaxed arc, but to me, this is one of the best arcs. This arc really shows what class A looks like outside of hero work, how they function as friends and how they make each other better. We need arcs like this to ground the story in something relatable, especially after the extreme high that was Overhaul.
That's the price of being a well liked shonen
Its with arcs like these where we are able to see how talented and how much effort an author puts in to his work.
Making a good story without emegeeh epic high adrenaline stakes and action is NOT EASY,AoT uprising arc comes to my mind, widely rejected for not having anything generic viewers/readers thought the story was about (epic big stake fights against brainless titans) fighting for the sake of fighting gets boring real quick (dragon ball z/super being prime examples of it).
“Not everyone is All Might”
Great, now I’m picturing hundreds of loud, muscular bois going around saying stupid shit, then suddenly all running away because their quirks were about to run out
"The Perfection of Gentle and La Brava."
Only Gentle is in the thumbnail. XD
That's because la brava is a expansion pack
hitohito tadano EA be like 9.99€
I just feel really bad for them. Both of them could’ve become great heroes, but people just decided to ruin their chances of being successful by being terrible to them. They tried their best but the world failed them and this is how they turned out. It really sucks
I think the duo will redeem themselves soon as heros
GREAT FREAKING VIDEO

👏 👏👏👏👏👏
Voted for Gentle in the 2018 and 2019 Popularity Polls, had no idea you also really got how good of a character he is.
+rep lol.
Imagine a world we’re Deku is just as brutal as josuke higashikata ( gappy)
Im just imagening deku strageling gentle till he dies while setting la braba on fire lol
I love Gentle and La Brava a lot more than Overhaul if I’m being honest
What a spiffing bouncy boi. Truly glorious.
Thank you.
Your video is great, you narate well. It’s good to have you on YT, ocean man
I took these 2 for granted. Oh my gosh they're so great!!!
I legit think these two could have their own Pinky & the Brain style spin-off from My Hero Academia
They're such amazing characters on their own and even though it probably won't happen at this point, I really wanna see them return in some way, somehow
He is great because of his unbeatable soul and mustache
I put Gentle up there alongside Stain, nothing is black and white...not all heroes are good (Endevour) not all villains are evil (Stain/Gentle)
incredibly underrated villain and also Deku's first W without breaking his limbs. Can't believe folks overlook him
I'm glad that you drew attention to the way Manami's and Toga's Quirks made them both want to be involved in the lives of the people they cared about and ,because it wasn't the "appropriate" way to show interest as deemed by society, became shunned by it.
you could say the spinoff "vigilante: boku no hero academia illegals" (gosh that's a long title) continues this theme of abandonment and people who are not geniuses but are not shunned due to destructive powers.
I love and adore Gentle and La Brava so much. Plus they are my favourite vilian's in My hero academia to be honest .
They are also two of my favourite My hero academia character's as well. Definitely in my top 5 of the series. I really hope they come back, I genuinely miss them
I am back after Gentle and LaBrava’s return. I love them.
So they need to invest in mental health issues. Problem we see in our society also.
