Magnum performs One Sacred Hour live at the Astoria 2005. Brilliant gig, get the DVD it is amazing! Keyboard intro by Mark Stanway + guitar solo by Tony Clarkin.
Unforgettable performance. From the front row you could see the tears in Bob's eyes, it was a reunion gig...great guys all of them as witnessed backstage after the gig...
Probably my favourite magnum song by far and to top it off I know bob on a a very personal level and he's kinda family and it's amazing having someone like him to look up to.
I'm sort of surprised Tony doesn't take a more involved approach to soloing on the studio recordings. He has some fantastic phrasing and note choice in the intro here.
A band that have been on my periphery for years and finally checked OASN a month or so ago. Blown away. New material seems as good as the classic stuff!
one of the most underrated bands of the 80's.....just like UFO, some great material but they just never caught the break they so richly deserved. Still play the album Chase the Dragon from side to side to this day.
I would not think looking at these guys they could produce one hell of a song...I thought It was a local magnum and loving KEYS what great find....thanks so much for the turn on....
Will be seeing them for the umpteenth time in the spring. First saw them at festivals back in 1982/83. Great band back then and still now deliver live.
@spectralnighttravel They are an absolutely incredible band indeed. Bob Catley is one of the best singers Britain has ever produced and Tony Clarkin is a massively underrated songwriting genius. Superb lyrics and musicianship. Enjoy friend, I wish I could hear Magnum for the first time again too!
Dimmu Borgir were not formed until 1993 a whole 11 years after this was released !!!! they plain and simple riped it off.....Magnum are 100% awsome, dudes check out their back cataloge its a treasure chest of great tracks that if you love rock you can't afford to miss, no mater how old you are its timeless...
I found this video from the plagiarism claim made against the then-keyboardist Stian of Dimmu Borgir, but in so doing found a band that I had never heard before, and now, quite like. I am astounded such a band has not received more recognition.
Ah, yeah my point there was that he didn't give credit to the original composer of either piece. I didn't have a problem with new arrangements, I actually quite like them haha.
Actually, the only, or one of the few keyboard riffs Stian Aarstad made for Dimmu is the intro to Mourning Palace. Shagrath composed the rest. He still does some keyboard stuff even though Mustis makes most of it.
@mokora What and that stops them from being good? Just because something is old doesn't mean that it is rubbish - I dunno I might of misinterpreted that. MAGNUM!
so I came here after reading the comments of a video with a song called 'agony' which stian from dimmu borgir adapted into the stormblast album, and now this? O.o Search Alt Lys Er Svunnet Hen, it really is an exact copy D:
thats basically all he ever "wrote" was those 2 things, Shagrath wrote all the other piano riffs. And i was wondering why they took the piano intro off the new Stormblast MMV... now i know!
The only thing Stian Aarstad actually DID write for Dimmu Borgir was the Mourning Palace intro. Glad he didn't steal lots more than this intro and the melody of the computer game Agony, and glad Stian Aarstad has no band now.
Actually, it's a rearrangement, just like Sorgens Kammer. Listen better next time. And musicians used to do this all the time back before contemporary music took over. So... what's the problem?
the fact of the matter stian never told his band that he stole ideas for those songs. they were pissed when they found out and fired his ass. to be defending him u have to be a fuckin moron.
RIP Tony Clarkin..one of my most favorite solos of all time!
Thanks for everything Tony you’ve given us so many wonderful hours of the best music!! I know you’re writing new songs in heaven!!
One of the most amazing entries of synth and guitar solos ever. Magnum rules.
Wonderful keyboard player. Mark Stanway is spectacular.
Unforgettable performance. From the front row you could see the tears in Bob's eyes, it was a reunion gig...great guys all of them as witnessed backstage after the gig...
The best live version ever that I've heard of this song. Simply magical.

Probably my favourite magnum song by far and to top it off I know bob on a a very personal level and he's kinda family and it's amazing having someone like him to look up to.

Beautiful! Magnum at it's best! Our song!!
one of the most underrated bands of the 80's.....just like UFO, some great material but they just never caught the break they so richly deserved. Still play the album Chase the Dragon from side to side to this day.
probably my fave magnum song ever, the hairs stood up on the back of my neck when the keyboard intro begun....
Oldies FTW! They still rock after so many years, the music is breath-taking.
I would not think looking at these guys they could produce one hell of a song...I thought It was a local magnum and loving KEYS what great find....thanks so much for the turn on....

Absolutely brilliant piece of music - would be great to hear it on the set at Sheffield Gig later this year
Love this song and magnum are great. Have to say though that Mark Stanway looks like the evil emperor off star wars!
Loved that vocal harmony!!
Amazing, simply amazing
Been to gigs for over 20 years and you are right I don't understand the lack of recognition they have recieved...

Barker was the man !! Best line up and never surpassed for me !!
Amazing song!
Magnum one of the most elegant rock bands to come out of England. 80's rock, hard, metal and prog forever!

ace song i did listen to this long time ago
Absolute beauty real honest rock track.
This must be the "long version" of this song. Excellent, 5 stars!
I found this video from the plagiarism claim made against the then-keyboardist Stian of Dimmu Borgir, but in so doing found a band that I had never heard before, and now, quite like. I am astounded such a band has not received more recognition.
lov w this song..!
R.I.P T.C.😢 Best Guitar Solo
exellent really enjoyed it
@GreenDayRoxer1 Yes! It is. I always loved that opening and had no idea about the copy until I read those comments as well. Wow.
Jimmy Copley - we are not worthy.
wenisimo
how do I get hold of this version
what a band! what a great fucking band!!!! not just musicians, but magicians,,!!!
Einfach nur Klasse
Ah, yeah my point there was that he didn't give credit to the original composer of either piece. I didn't have a problem with new arrangements, I actually quite like them haha.
Brilliant
Super!, 👍
Actually, the only, or one of the few keyboard riffs Stian Aarstad made for Dimmu is the intro to Mourning Palace. Shagrath composed the rest. He still does some keyboard stuff even though Mustis makes most of it.
Al Barrow what a thumping bass!!
Epic
brilliant.
wow.....
Don't say! :) Enthrone Darkness Triumphant album is great album and it's melodic BM :P
❤
Adoro 🥰
Guitarist like a Kerry King (Slayer :) )
This shit makes me cry...,
@mokora - immaterial dude! their music is tops!
So sad Bob's voice has been reduced to a croak. The man ruled back in the day.
@mokora Do you think it has something to do with playing superb melodic rock like this for over 30 years now.
(Y) .. like
@mokora What and that stops them from being good? Just because something is old doesn't mean that it is rubbish - I dunno I might of misinterpreted that.
MAGNUM!
I came here to see if the keyboard intro match with the dimmu borgir song, alt lys er svunnet hen :0
It's like the Dream Theater of rock.
mustis on SBD is epic
An 11 year old comment from xisuma on a Magnum vid? Wack
The Stormblåst 1996 pictures :-P
But his top hat kicks ass! Even tho Shagrath is seen wearing it in the For All Tid pictures as well?
so I came here after reading the comments of a video with a song called 'agony' which stian from dimmu borgir adapted into the stormblast album, and now this? O.o Search Alt Lys Er Svunnet Hen, it really is an exact copy D:

somehow this is better than Dimmu's stolen version. xD
I love Dimmu Borgir, but...common xD
Al’s bass is just getting thumped!!
Coolest bass player ever
@TheEddyMetal Too articulate for me :)
The only thing Stian Aarstad actually DID write for Dimmu Borgir was the Mourning Palace intro. Glad he didn't steal lots more than this intro and the melody of the computer game Agony, and glad Stian Aarstad has no band now.
lots of dimmu comments rofl still Magnum rules should be like this still and not just all the new shit ....
1:00 lol he thinks he's on a dimmu borgir concert
I was only joking, as you were :P See the "=P" face at the end?
is it begin 'aly lys er svunnet hen' sounds from dimmu borgir's song??=)
Search natos waor doser amor y odio
T.T
no way
Their former keyboarder stole more than just this. That by the way has been twelve years ago now. He's kicked out now.
oh rly? ill check that out
Dimmu Borgir ripped the intro off which was originally written by Tony Clarkin not Dimmu Borgir.
Alan Barrow not written by Tony, but Mark. Learn your history.
This song was written by Tony Clarkin. There is a difference between "written by" and "played by". Learn your history.
Uh, shame about all the great death, thrash and black metal that came out of the 90s then.
Dimmu Borgir's old keyboarder was a bastard...
its an older kerry king!! ahahahhahaha
Actually, it's a rearrangement, just like Sorgens Kammer. Listen better next time. And musicians used to do this all the time back before contemporary music took over. So... what's the problem?
