I bought a cover for my Mustang decades ago, the original made by T Maszewski in the USA, that resembles the one under the car you have. Lose the ears on the one you are installing on the 3rd member you are building. Used to be the 3rd member covers were stamped steel like the one that came on my 89 Sport LX Hatchback and eventually the stamped them out of aluminum, which helped them run cooler.
Looks like we are cutting them off thank you. I would like to just buy one and just put it on but you can't beat $15

if it was me I'd cut off those mounting ears, it's not a lot of weight compared with the whole axle but it's still just weight along for the ride. I can't imagine what you'd mount there except maybe lateral shocks or something?
As for the garage space man even just cleaning it up because it feels good, that's enough of a reason.
Yeah I've been so crazy busy I just been moving stuff around now I need to get organized
as soon as i saw those mounting ears it made me think of another old school trick, guys drag racing their foxbodys and likely other cars added weights to the rear end for traction. those mounting ears could be useful for mounting some weights that are easily removable for street driving, although id leave the weight there on the street.
Turn the mounting ears into fins for even more cooling.

Yes the fins dissipate the heat
Repurpose the "Mounting Points". It's an advantage, not disadvantage. "Glass half full"
Will it fit a crown Vic 8.8?

I would just leave them you don't want to ruin the integrity of the cover. I mean unless they're in the way of when you put the axle back in I would just leave them
If I plan on putting a panhard bar or something like that it will. I seen on junkyard dogs video you still have the fins you just grind down right where the bolts go
