He did pour so much of himself into his performances. I can see why so many were in awe by him. Thank you for watching, hope to see you comment and watch my other Elvis reactions.
Great reaction - love it. 'You Gave Me A Mountain' was a song which would evolve from being not just an integral part of the Elvis Presley show but to a poignant almost autobiographical number, especially in hindsight in the final couple of years. Performed almost as a permanent fixture in the set list from 1972 until 1974 including both Aloha from Hawaii shows in January 1973, it was performed only a handful of times in 1975 before being re-established on the set list from the New Years Eve 1975 show through until Elvis' final show in Indianapolis on 26 June 1977. Despite the song having been written by Marty Robbins, Elvis introduces the song as by Frankie Laine, and uses the same lyrics as the latter. Marty Robbins originally wrote the lyrics in the first verse as 'despised and disliked by my father' but Frankie Laine asked Robbins' permission to change the line to that subsequently used by Elvis which was of course 'deprived of the love of a father'. The early Vegas renditions have a unique arrangement of the song before it began to evolve. I suggest you listen to the very first live rendition as the best example. ruclips.net/video/0n2MCutve1c/видео.html. Listen out for the wonderful use of the harp during the intro just before Elvis begins to sing. As Elvis never recorded a studio version of the song, the arrangement had to be worked out from scratch with no studio master with which to base the live version on.
I appreciate the insight into this song. It's always good to read a little history behind what transpired with the song. Thanks for stopping by and commenting.
The Aloha from Hawaii performance was the first time I got to see ELVIS (via satellite) i was only 16. I never forgot it & was always a fan. I got to go back to Graceland recently 12/8/2022. 1st item I looked up in his costume museum was the suit he wore in this show. It was called the Red, White & Blue American Eagle (see red/blue eagle design across the chest on the white suit) found it easily & happily stood beside it for a picture! I miss him & the kind of shows he did.
This is awesome! To watch it live as it was performed. Also what an opportunity to go see the actual suit and to have a picture to cherish that memory. Appreciate you watching and commenting. I hope you have a great 2023.
Thank you Mama for raising me on this man.. his voice is just so iconic... yes he has backup singers.. but it's all Elvis' voice.. hello.. he's just amazing.. To this day.. is there another single singer that can do what this man did... I'm saying no...
The king donated all the money from aloha from Hawaii to charity. He did hundreds of concerts for charity. He helped Danny Thomas open Saint Jude in 1961. And 10 000 other things for others. TX. Good night Graceland. Rest in peace Lisa Marie. Tears rolling down my cheeks.
Great song and performance! I still remember laying on my late sister’s living room floor, and watching that broadcast. Got to see him in concert the next year. He chose songs that moved him. Some are semi-biographical, but as you said, he didn’t have a son, or any of the other family problems mentioned in the lyrics. He definitely climbed many mountains, and maybe the last one was too hard for him.😢
We all have mountains to climb that we sometimes don't tell others. We all go through struggles, which is why this music hits all us. Thanks for watching and for the continued support.
I added your channel to my subscriptions. An Elvis journey will open your other categories of music. Elvis did Bob Dylan. He was very close to Johnny Cash in their early days at Sun. He and Jerry Lee Lewis had a shaky relationship. Jerry Lee was very jealous of Elvis. Some of Elvis’ greatest performances were in Vegas, in 1970. For his voice, check out “Bridge Over Troubled Water”. For his overall performance, “Suspicious Minds”. For his charisma, “Polk Salad Annie”. For his soul singing abilities, “You’ve Lost That Loving Feeling”. Enjoy, and share your thoughts.
Hey there Russ, thanks for the informative comment. Also, I appreciate the sub!!! If you haven't yet saw, I have a few other Elvis reactions I will drop down below for you to check out. Elvis Reactions ruclips.net/p/PLivKOq9fUZT4UGMorHqXpbwQxRtd3ONx5
You may notice Elvis had band-aids on a couple of his fingers -- this was to prevent the rings from bing pulled off when he put his hands out to audience members. Elvis had the genetic condition A-1 antitrypsin which causes COPD/emphysema + a possible liver ailment, & he used an inhaler to help him breath. He had a little problem during a song on his '68 comeback special when he said, hold it, i can't breath, wait a minute, & gave a little cough; also at his 1970 Houston press conference he was coughing a bit; again a little breathing difficulty can be detected at his outdoor interview in Hawaii, yet through all of this he managed somehow to perform w-an energy & powerful voice like no other before or since. Thank you for this
Hi Wulfy! Just discovered your channel. I'm subbing cause I love Elvis! He is still loved worldwide 🌍🇿🇦 Please react to Elvis singing "Sweet Caroline" live in Las Vegas 1970. He outsings Neil Diamond in my opinion! His voice is just amazing! Thank you.
Awesome video brother. Yeah ELVIS was an icon. I remember my mom playing him every day when I was a kid. Thanks for sharing. Keep the content coming. Hope you have an incredible weekend. Love ya brother
When I was really young. About 13, I heard this one night on TV & never forgot the song but never heard it again. Later in life I heard Elvis singing this & I realized that was who I heard sang it when I first heard it. I think I fell for his music then and became a big fan. This was 1973 & it was the year his divorce went through, so it had been an emotional year for him because he didn’t get to see his baby girl very much. So his emotions were real here. Thanks so much for sharing your time with us doing this. If you would at some point do Elvis singing Tomorrow Never Comes. It’s not live, but it really showcases his voice. It’s on a video someone made and on several albums. If you’d like a link, mention it to me on the comments and I’ll get it for you. ❤🎸🎸🕺🏻🕺🏻🎤🥹🙋🏼♀️
I will absolutely have a listen to Tomorrow Never comes. I found a link for the song and will get this out for ya. I appreciate you taking to the to watch my reactions.
Elvis never wrote a song but what he did do is record 784 songs that he made better then the original artists did.. Elvis arranged every song he sang and did them his way .. Elvis greatest voice ever to sing
that ring he was wearing was said to be worth $150,000 and during this concert when he would shake hands with women during his songs they would try and slip it off his finger and he would laugh about it
Elvis was also.. the original.. KING of BLING
I have always loved this song since I was little. What stands out behind the fantastic voice is the outstanding drummer.
Elvis had to be the best performer ever he put so much passion and emotion into his singing never be another like him the Goat thank you 😊
He did pour so much of himself into his performances. I can see why so many were in awe by him. Thank you for watching, hope to see you comment and watch my other Elvis reactions.
So much passion, so much power in his voice. It's amazing. Love him forever ❤ 💕
Seems every song he did had that same energy.
Never Been to Spain Live.. His vocals plus the instrumentals are perfection!!!
I can’t miss with anything Elvis. It’s just always so good.
Elvis was comforting and inspirational singing about sadness and struggles because of the beauty of his vocals filled with emotion.
He tapped in to exactly that with his singing. Thanks for watching.
Great reaction - love it.

I believe this was written by Marty Robbins (a great country music legend). But, man. Elvis owned it! One of his many legendary performances.

Monty Robin was born in Phoenix AZ, he wrote the song and sang it.
This is a Marty Robbins song. His version was really nice, but Elvis made it own also.
that ring he was wearing was said to be worth $150,000 and during this concert when he would shake hands with women during his songs they would try and slip it off his finger and he would laugh about it
The writer was another singer Marty Robbins
This is good to know. Thank you for clearing that up.
I think Marty Robbins wrote this song
