How To BLUR the BACKGROUND in Photoshop

- In this tutorial, I demonstrate how to isolate the subject by blurring the background in Photoshop. Photoshop has some new neural tools that can do this -- I've done videos on them in the past but, those don't always work well on all images and it's good to know the photoshop techniques that I demo in this video such as selections and masking.

Thank you!
Hi Anthony, as always a great tutorial. How do you compare this to the new Blur Neural Filter? Curious about your thoughts on that.
Thanks, Anthony! I've seen videos of this in the past, and their directions left me scratching my head. And in some cases, they would leave out a step or two.
Thanks!
Thank you Edward!
Very helpful! I’m definitely going to be using this one.
Thanks for this video Anthony as I was wondering how you could blur out the background.
I like this tutorial, Mr. Photographer! Question: Could the blur removal on the couch be done with the gradient tool instead of the brush?
Hey Anthony, good video. Really appreciate your tutorials. I would like to see a tutorial about refining while adding background blur. I do a lot of event photography and cannot always control the back. Being able to blur the background and refine hair would be real helpful.
Thanks Anthony for your usual clear and concise tutorial. Is there a way to use a graduated filter to progressively blur the background, the way a lens would actually do? So the background close to the model would be in focus and then gradually soften towards the rear wall.
I've noticed that Photoshop's problem with hair is in the cutout, not the selection. If i do a selection for a background blur the hair almost always comes out OK, but it fouls up when making a composite. And, the refine hair brush is most often a remove hair brush. I've figured a slightly different way to blur backgrounds, but I was getting halos on part of the subject. This video should fix that.
General question…what key combo do you press to magnify specific spots on the screen?
I wish you could be my Physics teacher some years ago... it would be a lot easier to understand, for sure...

Thanks Anthony, Luminary AI was advertising last year that it also would be able to add blur. Do you know the status of that update ?
😎👍🏻
Thanks for the tutorial, but it doesn't look natural yet - she looks glued to the photo - the edges look too pronounced... nothing like real lens blur :)
Just looks photoshopped, though
