Your enthusiasm is contagious! Roberta Flack's performance in "Suzanne" truly is sensational and heavenly. It's wonderful to see such appreciation for this amazing artist. 🎶😊❤️
I met Roberta in the late 60's when she was playing upstairs at Mr. Henry's in D.C. We sat at long tables on benches and it was very intimate. Before singing each song, she would sit quietly at the piano until the room quieted. It was magic. I went to a party thrown by Robert Shirley (the manager at Mr. Henry's) that Roberta attended and we sat and talked. She said that a young lady had come to Mr. Henry's and heard her sing and went right back to her father, who was a record producer, and told him he had to sign her right away and she had just signed. Almost everything she sang at the club has been recorded but I will always remember sitting in that small room at the club, listening to her pure voice during that magical time.
Thanks for sharing that magical time with us. This is the most incredible arrangement of the song Suzanne I've ever heard.....Roberta is a true Artist!
The Flip Wilson show was a gem, and discovering Roberta Flack's "Suzanne" on it must have been a treat. Her rendition is timeless, and it's wonderful that it left a lasting impression on you.
Saw Roberta Flack with Donny Hathaway when I was just a girl in Detroit at the beautiful Fischer Theatre. She was so great I rose to my feet ! I was so young my parents took me after I begged my father. GOD it was magic ! ! I will never forget it. So many greats were there. Joe Williams, Cannonball & Nat Adderley Jr., Les McCan. Parents... try to leave your children with beautiful memories.
Music has a unique way of offering fresh perspectives. Roberta Flack's interpretation of 'Suzanne' must have shed new light on the song for you. It's amazing how different artists can bring out various emotions in the same lyrics. 🎶🌟
Idris Muhammad's drumming in "Suzanne" by Roberta Flack is indeed remarkable. It's the rhythmic heartbeat of the song, enhancing its overall beauty and creating a mesmerizing musical journey. 🥁🎶
An incomparable, legendary and icon talent unequalled by few. She takes the story of Suzanne and injects the urbane and smoothness of her sultry voice of this story making it her own. Great performance of a classic song.
Roberta Flack's interpretation of 'Suzanne' is a masterclass in musical artistry. Her sultry and smooth voice breathes new life into the classic, creating a performance that stands as a testament to her incomparable talent
Roberta Flack is indeed an incredible teacher through her music. Her songs have a way of imparting valuable life lessons, and it's a privilege to be her lifelong student. 🎵📚🌟
Roberta Flack is such an amazing talent. Cohen's 'Suzanne' is one of my favorite recordings by Ms. Flack. I listen to it often. My favorite song by her is 'The First Time..." and I believe Ms. Flack's rendition is one of the most beautiful love songs ever recorded. She does not fit into one kind of genre of music: she isn't pop, adult contemporary, r&b, soul, jazz...but she is all of these. I love that. I have so much love and respect for her. Thank you, Miss Roberta Flack
Thank you! ❤️ Roberta Flack's rendition of "Suzanne" is a masterpiece, and your appreciation reflects the deep connection she establishes with her listeners. Her time and love in each performance are truly special. ❤️❤️
A lady of class!! Saw her perform in the summer of 1975 at red rocks amphitheater near Denver. She captivated us!!! We were like putty in her hands. Her soothing and lush voice just filled that place with so much love and serenity!!! It was a night I will always cherish.
To this day ,December 29 ,2021,Roberta Flack s version of the Bee Gees ,To Love Somebody is to me one of the most emotional songs ever.I cry almost Everytime I hear her singing it.I stumbled upon it on Melbourne easy listening radio. And was hooked..An amazing tune by Miss Flack..
Your long-standing connection with 'Suzanne' and Roberta Flack's rendition is truly heartwarming. It's a song that stands the test of time. You're very welcome!
This has to be the most magnificent interpretation of this song I have ever heard/seen. What an absolute masterpiece!!!! Thank you, so much, H. Memo Rhein!!!
It’s Just Something About This Rendition Of “Suzanne” That Puts Me Into A Trance The Way Ms. Flack Is Able To Become One With The Song Sends Me Into A Total Frenzy, She Makes The Song Believable, And You Can Tell She Was Having A Great Time Along With The Band, They Are Riding The Groove And The Way Her Vocals Soar Above The Music, It’s Enchanting
I'm right there with you! Roberta Flack's rendition of "Suzanne" is a musical trance. Her emotional connection and the band's groove create a magical atmosphere that's truly enchanting. 🎤🎼
It's a joy to share the beauty of Roberta Flack and Donny Hathaway's music. Their singing together is a treasure, and their talent shines brilliantly in every note. Thank you for appreciating their exceptional artistry! 😊🎶❤️
I've been a Roberta Flack since the 70's. Grammy Song of the Year winner 2 years in-a-row. Only U2 has that same distinction. Did you know she entered Howard University at age 15? Like Al Jarreau, she spent years teaching. Who says, "Those, who can't do, teach." HA!
This song is so much deeper than her explanation, but she sings it and plays so beautifully, I'm not even mad at her for not understanding her song. Truly a timeless beauty.
Her voice give.s me chill's her voice is pure and wonderful .Her last album off Beatles songs is fabulous her voice in top form still a great artist and talent .
No one brings this song to LIFE quite like Roberta Flack. Sadly, the songwriter has left the building. There are but a handful of scribes who carved these sad-lovely ideas of being a writer into my psyche. Leonard Cohen was one of them. T'is true, I hardly knew ye. And yet I feel this urgent need to say: THANK YOU, Lenny. lmr
In 2020, Roberta Flack won the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award. She did survive a stroke in 2018. The American songstress left the stage, but not the building. :)
@@lauraowens3956 i was referring to Mr. Cohen (leaving the building). So glad Ms. Flack is still breathing air! She remains & always will be a LEGEND ....for real.
Velvet....pure....smooth....has nuances and hesitations, then comes in full....with sound so sublime...its' breathtaking......intimate....clear: clean.....tea and oranges????????
One of the purest voices-transports you to a good place. What an exciting gift that you had to see her in NYC in the beginning if her career. Thank you for sharing your beautiful story...
i m here cause an amazing songwriter for Films in LA told me my song "Gloria's pace" (its on my account channel here btw!) reminds her of Suzanne. this is the first time I hear it, its really magical, the same magic I ve tried to portray for my Gloria character. Robera's interpretation is fantastic, I m honored to carry your very same name Roberta
This is the most beautiful interpretation of Leonard Cohen's idyllic song "Suzanne", written and composed for a dancer. But, I guess, it was composed for a sweet and sensitive voice like that of the wonderful Roberta Flack. Thank you, Roberta! Respectfully, your admirer from Germany, Titus Botas.
Wow, this live version is gorgeous! I prefer it over the studio version that is available .... The musicians are adding a very deep funky element here, and Roberta sounds like she is really feeling it! I wish they would make this available as a recording. I saw that the video itself is available though.
I have always loved and admired Roberta Flack for her singing, piano and heart. Regarding Leonard Cohen's song about Suzanne Verdal... Leoanard Cohen as I understand it wrote this song about a deeply spiritual woman who held the mirror of unconditional love to all including him. Suzanne Verdal was the opposite of self-obsessed. She is a woman who holds the mirror of unconditional love available to all, showing Leonard and others this is existent for all. Regarding lack of attention to others in pain, she was the one in pain being ignored. While this song inspired by her exquisite being and consistent generosity was making others famous and lucrative, she was living homeless in a truck for six years with a broken back. A very accomplished dancer full of heart and soul, her broken back truncated her career at a young adult age. She never gives up hope and contiunes to work to heal the back for decades, remains a deeply loving person. It was she who continued to beam love but was not helped by others benefiting from a song about her soul. Because of her this song has touched a multitude of millions.
